to think my MIL has turned into Letitia Cropley?

Arrive at MIL’s for dinner and ask what we are having “a lamb tagine” she replies. Lovely.

We sit down to the table and we’re dished up a lamb tagine served with broad beans from the garden, okay fair enough so far. Stuffing balls, “pineapple guacamole” and a mini sausage roll.

Pudding will be ginger roly poly with “milk and raspberries”. I don’t know what this means.

The freezer packed up and you are the unlucky recipients Grin

MrsMozartMkII · 22/06/2019 20:21

Is it wrong that I see nothing at all wrong with that menu?

Then again, cooking has never been my strong point...

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/06/2019 20:27

Raspberries and milk. Ewwww

WeeDangerousSpike · 22/06/2019 20:27

Raspberries and milk? What a waste of raspberries!

Was the sausage roll a 'pig in duvet'? Sounds like she went with lamb tagine then got scared and tried to steer it back towards a roast dinner with stuffing and pigs in blankets/duvets.

RosaWaiting · 22/06/2019 20:30

What was the pineapple guacamole please?

TheRLodger · 22/06/2019 20:32

Is her cooking normally this adventurous? Did it taste nice despite the unusual menu?

CassandraCross · 22/06/2019 20:33

I am intrigued by pineapple guacamole and the rogue mini sausage roll.

DogHairEverywhere · 22/06/2019 20:34

Do you think some of the pages of her recipe book got stuck together? What on earth is pineapple guacamole?

ElfridaEtAl · 22/06/2019 20:34

I'm creasing at this, sorry OP.

Has she mentioned the freezer packing on or needing to use anything up?

If not then that's truly bizarre, definitely the next Leticia Crowley Grin

ElfridaEtAl · 22/06/2019 20:35

More to the point, why was the pineapple guacamole?

queenMab99 · 22/06/2019 20:37

We used to have bananas and milk, for pudding quite regularly, when I was a child in the fifties. It was a treat, I never thought it was strange at the time, but never had it at anyone else's house, only at home.

CassandraCross · 22/06/2019 20:37

Valid point Utterly, it is such a conundrum!

RosaWaiting · 22/06/2019 20:38

Dog well, no because then clearly there’d be beef trifle Grin

Waveysnail · 22/06/2019 20:42

Did your dh say anything?

IhaveALooBrush · 22/06/2019 20:42

Next time serve her some shepherds pie with noodles and saag aloo

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/06/2019 20:45

It appers that Pineapple guacamole is just normal guacamole with pineapple chucked in.

TremblingFanjo · 22/06/2019 20:53

Crumble for breakfast?

Was that because she was saving the milk for your roly poly?

daisyboocantoo · 22/06/2019 20:56

Oh my DM pulls stunts like this.

My favourite meal was a stir fry of every vegetable in the fridge with some chopped up wafer thin ham sprinkled on it.

Or another one, basmati rice served with baked beans.

She does make us giggle

alittleprivacy · 22/06/2019 21:12

I actually make a breakfast crumble. It's a baked date custard with an oat crumble top. It's delicious and perfect with coffee.

LoHe19 · 22/06/2019 21:14

Has she always cooked ‘unusually’ or has she been watching loads of cooking programmes and put her own twist on it?!

AConvivialHost · 22/06/2019 21:25

Do you think she was intending the raspberries and milk to be a DIY crusha?

ScaryBunnyPainting · 22/06/2019 21:42

DH didn’t arrive until pudding.

Then pineapple guacamole was guacamole with chillies and pineapple.

I think that sounds quite nice. The bacon and eggs (and something else breakfast-y) SIL was offered as a crumble seems less delicious.
