When kids correts adults

I went to legoland with my 2 dds and my dh. Dh is from Indonesia so our kids have a bit of darker skin and looks a bit Asian.
Dd1 wears glasses.
We were sitting in the observation tower going up, dd1 next to me, then dd2 and dh. The family next to us had a dd who asked her parents why dd1 had glasses. Her mom explained and then the dad piped in with "all gook eyed uses glasses" i was sooo furious but tried for dd1s one fault to find a way of telling him off withoug her noticing but to my surprise she literally turned around to him and said very factual "its called an Asian, saying gook eyed is mean and makes others sad"... I was so proud of her... And luckily the mom told him off later when we came out again. I could hear her when we walked past them..
But I'm super proud of my dd1 eventhough I'm sad that adults actually think its acceptable to say...

Your daughter is fab, good job you and DH

mbosnz · 18/06/2019 17:08

Good on your DD! That is one brave, smart, strong young lady! She will go far. . .

And yes, it is sad that some adults still think it's acceptable to say such rude and ignorant things.

CripsSandwiches · 18/06/2019 17:09

Your DD sounds great, that guy is a tool!

MonstranceClock · 18/06/2019 17:10

Im of Asian descent. Sadly she will have a life time of this.

theemmadilemma · 18/06/2019 17:11

High five to her!

BettysLeftTentacle · 18/06/2019 17:12

You’ve done sterling job there OP, your DD is amazing!

LL83 · 18/06/2019 17:12

Awesome dd! Perfect response.

Coming from a child might make the man notice how ignorant his behaviour is if one so young knows better than him.

LizzieSiddal · 18/06/2019 17:13

Well done to your Dd!

GruciusMalfoy · 18/06/2019 17:13

Good on your DD, people like him should be called out on it.

transformandriseup · 18/06/2019 17:14

It’s one of those, “did they just say that?” moments. Well done to your DD!!

shutyourlittleface · 18/06/2019 17:16

How on earth did she know what 'gook-eyed' meant?

Gilead · 18/06/2019 17:18

Well done to your dd and your family, that's great parenting!

msmith501 · 18/06/2019 17:22

Well impressed - she'll go far with confidence and assertiveness like that

SupermassiveBlackHo · 18/06/2019 17:25

And in other things that never happened..... 🙄

Luxplus · 18/06/2019 17:27

shutyourlittleface she's learned it in kindergarten where they have spoken about which words is unacceptable to say and make others sad. There's a Chinese girl in her kindergarten who have heard the word before and therefore mentioned it as a bad word. Dd knows the meaning because we then have explained her it..

Luxplus · 18/06/2019 17:28

SupermassiveBlackHo why would I be lying about this?

Nonnymum · 18/06/2019 17:28

Well done to your daughter.
Terrible behaviour by the father and frankly a bit odd that the child wasn't aware why people wear glasses. Surely he's seen people wear them before? It's really not unusual.

alligatorsmile · 18/06/2019 17:32

Well that other dad is a pillock, and he has quite rightly been put in his place by a smart little girl who answered him calmly and factually.

He's a lackwit and she's a legend.

Luxplus · 18/06/2019 17:32

Oh MonstranceClock that's really sad to hear. Its the first time we heard it mentioned about one of them.

Nursery taught them all the word 'gook' Hmm

MonstranceClock · 18/06/2019 17:40

@shutyourlittleface are you non white? If you're not, I'm very surprised you're not aware of how young we have to learn these things.
If you are white, then count yourself lucky!

IntoValhalla · 18/06/2019 17:40

That’s disgusting Sad I’m sorry a grown adult felt it appropriate to use such vile language - especially aimed at a child.

I’m also mum to mixed white/Asian DCs, and they look quite obviously mixed. I’ve had some comments - mostly from people aged 50+ regarding their race Hmm I can’t wait for the day when my DCs are old enough to re-educate these absolute fucking weapons who think racist language is acceptable Hmm
Your DD is a legend Grin

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 18/06/2019 17:42

No, shut another child who had been subject to racist abuse mentioned the word and nursery provided an age appropriate explanation for why the word was bad. So the OP's DD heard the word.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 18/06/2019 17:43

Just like when kids at my DD nursery have heard things like 'girls are stupid' or 'girls can't run fast'. They repeat them at nursery and then the staff deal with that behaviour by explaining it was mean, doing some activities or circle time, etc.

Antiawesometic · 18/06/2019 17:46

Your dd was brilliant. Well done her and shame on that ignorant adult.
