To wish that a Stranger would give me unsolicited advice

Jemima232 · 08/06/2019 12:02

Having read a lot of threads this morning about HVs, retired dentists and Random Strangers giving unwanted advice about fizzy drinks, I am devastated that this has never happened to me.

Why have I been Left Out?

Yes! You are obviously not giving out the right vibe. I was standing in a supermarket looking at a selection of Indian snacks (samosas etc) when a man in his 20s (my age at the time) stood next to me and said ‘you don’t want any of those they’re full of fat’! Then he walked away.

FlaviaAlbia · 08/06/2019 12:10

You should really gives your eyes a break from your phone screen.

There. How'd that work for you? Grin

Queenbetty · 08/06/2019 12:10

Haha, a nice lady came up to me in the supermarket to advise me to put my purse somewhere more secure in my bag because it was on show. I said thank you and put it in a zipped compartment because I hadnt realised.

I actually didn't know raisins were that bad for teeth.

Jemima232 · 08/06/2019 12:11

@PipadnDrum

Obviously you're a better person than I.

I am starting to feel devastated.

Tingface · 08/06/2019 12:12

Ok OP.
You really don’t look good in yellow.
I’m sorry.

Jemima232 · 08/06/2019 12:15

Not good in Yellow?

No!!!!!

I was advised only last week that it was my colour.

Well my Tesco delivery driver told me yesterday that I had lost enough weight now and I needed to stop! I'm sure I didn't order unsolicited advice. Maybe it was a substitute for the polite chit chat I requested.

Moralitym1n1 · 08/06/2019 12:28

A random old man told me to keep my baby out of the sun in the street once - she was in a full romper, with hat (and possibly sunscreen, I can't remember).

Walkamileinmyshoesbeforeujudge · 08/06/2019 12:30

On a bus a woman told me I should have kept my f-ing legs shut as I had enough dc....
*When my newborn ds was crying.

Summersunshine2 · 08/06/2019 12:30

Ha ha I often have to try really hard not to give advise to strangers 😂

YouSayPotatoesISayVodka · 08/06/2019 12:33

I feel the same as you OP. It’s like no one gives a shit about me Sad I’m sitting here in a crowded train carriage swigging Dr Pepper and no one looks even mildly concerned about how it’s effecting my health.

sheshootssheimplores · 08/06/2019 12:35

I’m sorry, some of these have had me sniggering 🤭

I’m desperately trying to think of the last time a stranger approached me to say anything negative. If it helps I do get a lot of positive comments about my hair 😜

ImNotHappyaboutitPauline · 08/06/2019 12:37

I gave unsolicited advice in the supermarket yesterday. I told a fellow shopper that the 2l soft drinks she was looking at were on special offer in [other] supermarket 5 mins up the road. She looked very pleased to hear this and put the bottles back on the shelf.

I now await a thread bemoaning the fact a fellow shopper dared to speak actual words to her Shock and how she was made to feel profligate and judged for not caring about the people who can only dream of buying 2l of diet 7up. I wonder if she took to her bed when she got home Grin.

Jemima232 · 08/06/2019 12:38

@sheshootssheimplores

I think you should keep this to yourself. Obviously the spirit of this thread is to celebrate unwelcome advice.

You showing off about your hair is just...…..showing off, I'm afraid.

Couldn't you have told us about the time when someone commented on your split ends?

Come to Glasgow and stand in a bus queue. People just can’t help themselves here 😂😂

Jemima232 · 08/06/2019 12:41

@AgentProvocateur

I shall be in a bus queue in Glasgow on Tuesday - could we arrange to meet so that you can protect me?

Aw man, the woman inform of me have me a voucher to use on my shopping. What a bitch. She said “would you like this £7 off voucher as I won’t use it in time?”

Some people, eh 🙄.

Duchessgummybuns · 08/06/2019 12:42

I get it a lot, i wonder if I just look stupid and people think I need their help 😂

sheshootssheimplores · 08/06/2019 12:42

I know, I’m failing here. I’ll think harder as I’m sure some stranger must have said something fucking terrible at some point.

Atalune · 08/06/2019 12:44

True story, a French woman came and pulled the muslin off my babies pram and shouted at me, the gist being I was suffocating him.

Love the French grannies.

another French man shouted at me when I handed him back his ski. Obviously I was doing it wrong.

Jemima232 · 08/06/2019 12:44

In fact, tout le monde, I shall be at Glasgow Central station on Tuesday.

I shall update this thread if anyone tells me that my suitcase is too large which is what my stupid sister did when she saw it

presumedinnocence · 08/06/2019 12:44

I remember pushing my 9 month-old ds1 around Sainsbury's in his pushchair, and a random man approached and told me my baby should have shoes on.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 08/06/2019 12:45

I don't get a lot of unsolicited advice... I get a lot of randoms telling me things though. I must look friendly or something... last week a man told me about his gunge fetish Confused

Outofexcuses · 08/06/2019 12:46

Sorry, but I’m going to boast too. I get a lot of compliments about my parking. Often, men will stop what they’re doing to watch me. Sometimes they’ll say things like ‘I thought you were going to hit that car!’ and we both have a good laugh. (I don’t tell them my car beeps to tell me when to stop.)

Jemima232 · 08/06/2019 12:48

That post isn't good enough @Outof Excuses

You should be telling us about the time you backed into my car a stranger's car at Knutsford Services.
