People that say a month is 4 weeks?

I've seen this twice over the past month on mums groups and it's such a petty hate of mine but it irritates me!!!

Two mums have put on a photo with the caption 'one month old today!!!' when they're not. I've seen someone put it on today saying 'one month old' when her baby was born 3/5 and it's been 28 days (4 weeks), but a month hasn't passed!!! When your baby is '12 months' (a year), it'll still have another month to go until it's birthday?!?!?

Am I really petty that this bothers me so much? 😂😂😂😂

Hmm
SinjunRivers · 31/05/2019 14:26

I feel your pain. I used to work in lettings and trying to explain to some tenants that if each month were 4 weeks there would only be 48 weeks in a year had me banging my head on the desk

awalkintheparka · 31/05/2019 14:27

God yes! That would annoy the hell out of me!

mabelsgarden · 31/05/2019 14:30

Some people are THAT thick. I know people who think this too. And someone I used to know swore down that there were 13 'calendar months' in the year. Even when presented with the evidence, she wouldn't back down.

Fishywife · 31/05/2019 14:32

I don't know why people think this! Not just babies... When we were renting a flat in London we had a monthly budget, but the stupid estate agents price everything in weeks to confuse you. DP (intelligent, degree holder, working in finance) thought that a flat was manageable just out of our budget because it was £390 a month, which was £390 a week x 4 weeks = £1560 a month; but actually it was way over our budget at (£390 a week x 52.14 weeks in a year) / 12 months in a year = £1694. I hadn't thought to check his maths, but luckily realised just before we signed!!

Cookit · 31/05/2019 14:34

I love it when the same people start telling you that pregnancy is actually 10 months long ..

flowery · 31/05/2019 14:37

People ask this about weaning guidelines- you see them saying “it says to start weaning from 6 months, does this mean 24 weeks?”

Er, no. It means 6 months.

awalkintheparka · 31/05/2019 14:37

@Cookit yes 🙈
40 weeks is 9 months plus one week. That being said- from the date of my last period to the day I gave birth- it was 10 months Grin🙈

Nolagerformethanks · 31/05/2019 14:38

YES! this annoys me so much, my friend did it for about 10 'months' then suddenly stopped, must of realised his birthday would have been at 13 'months' 🙈 drives me mad as well!

Foslady · 31/05/2019 14:38

Yep - used to work in Social Housing. People would ring in a panic because they couldn’t afford the rent for a couple of weeks. We’d offer them a pay monthly option and include the weeks that they couldn’t afford over the remainder of the year. Then they’d have a go at us at they had no free tent weeks......and couldn’t get through to them that the four weeks per month that they were paying meant that the four weeks were spread out over the year.
The amount of times I was accused of conning people when I’m reality I was giving them a two week worth of rent interest free loan for the rest of the year.......

YetIWill · 31/05/2019 14:40

In fairness, it would be nice if "they" would just add an extra month and make them all 4 weeks long. I think it works out - 13 months of 4 weeks = 52 weeks, right?

Lllot5 · 31/05/2019 14:40

Had this at work with peoples wages as well. Thought they were going to paid four weekly instead of calendar monthly

User1010 · 31/05/2019 14:40

Yes it’s ridiculous the amount of people who don’t realise that not all months are four weeks.

MoobaaMoobaa · 31/05/2019 14:41

Because they are rounding down the numbers as it's usually 2-3 days off 4 weeks. So easier to say 4 weeks.

plus 28 days is a looner month.

Praiseyou · 31/05/2019 14:44

I came on to say the pregnancy lasts 10 months thing.

The amount of times I've heard this - I even heard a radio dj say it and she was "em, women are told that pregnancy is 9 months but you're pregnant for 40 weeks, 4 weeks in a month, so 10 months" as if she had uncovered some huge conspiracy. I texted the show to explain her stupidity but she didn't clarify.

GhostHoward · 31/05/2019 14:48

Some professions get paid 4 weekly as standard (and if you get them, child benefit and tax credits are paid 4 weekly)....you can still figure out what a calendar month is!!!!

PennyStocks · 31/05/2019 14:48

A month is 4 and 1/3 weeks. As anyone who's ever rented their home knows.

Binglebong · 31/05/2019 14:50

I got really annoyed at a vet over this. Pills last for 12 weeks so you got four a year. Which meant you had a week every three months unprotected! They just could not grasp this...

Fromage · 31/05/2019 14:51

I think it's the confusion that there are four full weeks in every month - that there are usually also a few more days is clearly too much for some to compute.

thecatsthecats · 31/05/2019 14:53

Yes it’s ridiculous the amount of people who don’t realise that not all months are four weeks.

One. ONE month is four weeks. And even that one tarts into 4w+1 occasionally.

I would love a 13 month year plus mandatory bank holiday on leap years Grin

RubberTreePlant · 31/05/2019 14:53

I was trying to do the x4.33 calculation for something in my head not long ago, and some challenged Tracey type whined 'Ya times it by fouuur'. I was tempted to staple her hand to the counter, for throwing me off. The thick never know they're thick.

flowery · 31/05/2019 14:54

”I got really annoyed at a vet over this. Pills last for 12 weeks so you got four a year. Which meant you had a week every three months unprotected! They just could not grasp this...”

I only recently realised that my ‘two months’ repeat prescription is actually for 56 days’ worth of tablets. No wonder I run out earlier and earlier each ‘two month’ period!

Cookit · 31/05/2019 14:55

Grin That’s the kind of thing I would do!

This! haha. I keep getting told this and I answer that it's not, it's 9 calendar months. I get asked how far gone are you and I'll say 24 weeks and get a reply of "ooh 6 months already!". Erm, no, still 24 weeks. Another few to go until I'm there :-D

This has always been a stupidly irritating pet hate of mine since I was at school though, like friends who would say they'd been with their boyfriend for a month and it was 4 weeks. I don't know why it bothers me so much haha
