to think that they might as well have saved their money and the planet, and stayed at home?

okie, i know that everyone has their own ideas and is entitled to do what they want as long as they dont hurt anyone, but this is just annoying me.
a woman i know irl went on holiday withher dh, six year old ds and one year old dd. they flew out all the way to spain, and spent two weeks in some holiday complex, where all they did was sit by the pool all day long. not once did they venture out to see the sights of the country they were in. or eat the local food. or experience anything at all about the place?
they have a gym membership with a beautiful outdoor pool. what exactly did they gain by goind all the wya out there? was there a point to it all?

this woman annoys me lots and lots and lots irl anyways. but i am not so rude as to say antyhing to her, as she is a nice person, who has never been nasty to me, or anyone else that i know off. but she irritates me.

Are you perhaps a bit ?

A one year old would not be much fun to 'see the country' with, TBH.

If I went to Spain with a one year old, I would probably resign myself to a pool/beachside holiday.

I'm not sure taking a 1-yr-old to Spain would be a good holiday for anyone concerned though - too bleeding hot.

not envious at all.
we went to spain with an 11 month old. (her dd is 13 months) we went everywhere with her. and i mean evrywhere, well, everywhere in barcelona! ive traveleed with younger kids. and three of them as well.

i just dont get what the point of their going was? they could have done all the stuff they did out there, here. to me travel is about seeing a different place. how people live. similarities and differences. experiencing different places, tastes, etc etc. i can laze outside the gym pool here for two weeks if i wanted to, but it would bore me stiff vervy very quickly.

Yeah they could spend all day at the pool at home - but they wouldn't. When you are at home you are conscious of having far too many other things to which stops you from frittering the day away 'relaxing'.

I can't see the problem really. If their perfect holiday is to sit by a pool all day then what is wrong with that? Sounds lovely.

see, that's the other thing i dont get. how are you getting away from it all. you still have the kids with you. and you still have to do the same stuff you do at home. laundry, cooking etc. and at home at least the kdis know where stuff is, so you dont have to entertain them in the same way you would if you just plonked them in front of a pool.
or am i alon in thinking it the most boring holiday ever?

but why not just go to Butlins (ok maybe not Butlins but somewhere like it ) in the UK -what's the point of going all the way to Spain. And I'm sorry I think the excuse of "not much fun" to see the country/eat the local food is a bit lame.....

gibberish, there isnt really a problem, just something that annoys me in real life, and i cant do or say anything in rl as that would be so b(&y silly small minded and immature of me. live and let live. but this woman annoys the heck out of me.

even the sahar doesnt count fanny.
for six months after the first gulf war, you couldnt see the sun in saudi arabia because of the burning oil wells. this was many thousands of miles away, in the middle of the deset in june. no sun.

I could not agree with your more, cylon. It's a pathetic way to spend a holiday.

I have the Times Atlas of the World. It's my mission to tick off as many places as I can from it. So when we go on holiday, it's all about how we can get to A and B and C whilst we're there.

I shall pass it on to my son, and he can tick off more places, and so it will go on.

Sitting by a pool and doing bugger all is not invigorating .... it's dispiriting.

we'd always sightsee on holiday, my dad in socks and sandals with a camera round his neck. we lost him once, he disappeared over a ledge in a monastray in majorca.

he appeared later with a bit of cactus that lasted for years.
