Not to eat hot meals?

NotRamona · 30/05/2019 19:05

Apparently this makes me very unreasonable according to work colleagues and I’ve had raised eyebrows about teaching my DC good habits and if I feed them properly (I do)

I just detest hot meals and am much more happy with a plate with the likes of pita, nice cheese, chorizo, coleslaw/Ballymaloe relish, olives, crusty bread, sushi, turkey slices, beetroot, branston pickle etc etc.

Is this really so unusual?
I cook hot meals for DC.

I think it’s unusual to never eat hot meals. What you have described is delicious and we might have something like that once a week perhaps.

Somerford · 30/05/2019 19:08

I don't think I know a single person who doesn't eat hot meals. I wouldn't care much if I did though to be honest. Whatever makes you happy

DorothyBastard · 30/05/2019 19:09

What, all hot meals? Out of all of the cuisines of the world, there are absolutely zero hot meals that you like? That is so odd

IsabellaLinton · 30/05/2019 19:09

If it’s healthy and you’re happy, who cares? I wouldn’t say it’s that unusual.

Booming · 30/05/2019 19:10

So you don’t eat hot meals? A bit confused!

AutumnCrow · 30/05/2019 19:10

I spent years eating DC's leftovers in an exhausted stupor so grew to quite like cold food.

ineedaholidaynow · 30/05/2019 19:10

What other things do you eat, or is this just when eating with work colleagues?

What sort of meals do you cook for your DC?

I must admit I would find it strange not to eat any hot meals, when there are so many to choose from.

NotRamona · 30/05/2019 19:11

It’s not that there are none I like, though I am hard pushed! It’s more that I much prefer picky little cold meals.
The shock and horror in the office was palpable Shock

Couldn't eat the same sort of thing day in day out but it's not hurting anyone.

Unusual though!

clairemcnam · 30/05/2019 19:13

I would suspect that you do not eat that healthily. We eat a lot of vegetables. I would suspect that you do not.

Loopytiles · 30/05/2019 19:13

Do you have eating issues, eg restricting?

Teacakeandalatte · 30/05/2019 19:14

I think its a bit unusual especially in cold weather but its not against the law so carry on.

Shadowboy · 30/05/2019 19:16

What about Christmas dinner was the first question that came to my mind?!!

I’d also find it odd simply because it would mean never eating ‘with’ others simply at the same time as others. So when you go out for food do you order a starter? I’m genuinely intrigued now!

Passthecherrycoke · 30/05/2019 19:16

I think the opposite actually- I have a friend who eats like this and he is much healthier than most because his meals are just totally random rather than constructed- ie-
Sugar snap peas
Carrot batons
Olives
Cherry tomatoes
Boiled egg
Cheese sandwich
Grapes
Strawberries
Yogurt.

It is random but I quite like it myself (was inspired after holidaying with him- because it’s very easy too, you just randomly grab things out of the fridge and put them on a plate)

However it is an expensive way to eat, my food bill has gone up 70% and we don’t eat like this all the time!

Passthecherrycoke · 30/05/2019 19:17

Sorry posted late- I meant I think the opposite to Claire, potentially a lot more vegetables than standard meals

NotRamona · 30/05/2019 19:20

We eat a lot of vegetables. I would suspect that you do not.

Your suspicions are incorrect Grin
I just wanted to list the most calorie dense foods so it didn’t sound like I starve myself. I am a veggie fiend! Carrot and pepper batons by the bucketload, loads of tomatoes, a decent amount if greens.

I cook the DC a lot of fish, stir fry, paella type things.

Do you have eating issues

I’m questioning this now. I probably do/have done.

I never considered this odd before now though!

I don't understand the obsession with hot dinner. I eat what a fancy for dinner, often salad or a wrap. Loads of vegetable.

nc100 · 30/05/2019 19:22

You sound very "Mediterranean" OP. Are you sure you're not Ramona?

BertrandRussell · 30/05/2019 19:22

If i’m on my own I often have salad, sandwiches, cold stuff. I also like leftovers of hot meals eaten cold. I am alone in my family though!

ineedaholidaynow · 30/05/2019 19:24

So would you eat hot tapas food?

ShaggyRug · 30/05/2019 19:24

I prefer cold food OP. I do eat hot meals but much prefer cold.

NotRamona · 30/05/2019 19:26

I’m pleased to see some of you don’t think it’s downright weird!

It’s not something I had ever given a second thought to but I was really Shock at my colleagues reactions!

OP posts:
ineedaholidaynow · 30/05/2019 19:27

Do you not like things mixed on your plate, is that why you prefer picky food?

SmarmyMrMime · 30/05/2019 19:28

There are a lot of delicious and healthy cold foods, but to me, it sounds very miserable for getting through British winters, or even the crapper end of British summers. I need the heat from food to help warm me through. I can quite happily get through 3 hot meals a day in colder weather. It's nice in warm weather to have some cold foods/ salad and put less effort into cooking, but I couldn't live like that in our climate.

ineedaholidaynow · 30/05/2019 19:28

Do you not think it odd that you don’t eat the same food as your DC, especially as they do not appear to be eating ‘kids’ food’?
