AIBU to bloody hate cyclists

I have just trailed three cyclists during the course of the day. Honest to God, why don't they just pull over and let people pass?

I have the same rant to my dh when we go out. I’m all for being healthy but a lot of cyclists we’ve come across are dangerous, hog the road and seem unaware of other road users.

They have as much right to he there as you do. Over take when it's safe to do so like you would any other vehicle.

They have as much right to use the road. And aren’t contributing to air pollution to boot! Give yourself extra time for your journey and try to be a bit more patient.

Constantly pulling over isn't going to get them to their destination is it? And it will ruin any momentum they have built up which is annoying especially if they are going uphill.

It's the ones who ride in large packs, 3 wide who really piss me off. They all wear these branded Lycra suits, acting like some pro bike rider.

A lone bike rider I have no problem with.

Why don’t you just wait until it’s safe to pass them? You don’t have any more rights to be on the road than them. Why should they cycle in the gutter and end up possibly soaking wet/dirty or falling off their bike if the surface there is uneven just so you can get past more quickly?

How long a hold up are we talking about OP? 5 seconds? 10 seconds? 30 seconds? I know it is frustrating but please relax. It is for everyone's safety. Cyclists have as much right to use the road as do other slow-moving vehicles such as tractors or even horses.

I am a cyclist and I do stop at the top of hills if it is safe to do so, but I do not stop on hills because it is almost impossible to get the cleats in on a hill and get started again.

In my experience about 1 or 2 in 5 drivers overtake me in an illegal (and dangerous) fashion. The Highway Code says you should overtake a cyclist as if they are the size of a car but as I say many are too impatient or unaware to do this.

I live 1 mile up a hill on a country lane. Last week, two cars overtook me when cars were coming towards them, this forcing the oncoming traffic to slam their brakes on. Aat another point there were horses right and left (and one was badly spooked)- I stopped to let the horses calm down and the car behind me overtook me and squeezed between the horses at 20mph.

It's like anything though, you get bad drivers, bad cyclists.

Locally, traffic has been disrupted for months whilst a beautiful cycle path has been installed beside an a road, I've been on it, it's lovely. Yet some, not all, but some, cyclists chose to cycle along the a road next to the cycle path causing miles of tail backs. Now that's annoying. As are drivers that overtake in ridiculous places.

I was held up on my bike today and yesterday by a load of drivers, so swings and roundabouts. Doesn't mean I hate all drivers. How very strange of you.

It's the 2-3 abreast in packs of 20 or more on weekends that annoy me, on many roads there's nowhere to safely overtake and it barely wide enough to get past them anyway, and with the hills i find myself in 2nd gear trying not to stall. Though this is principally a Sunday issue. And what is it with the silly lycra suits, they are going at a snails pace and not more than 10 mph even on the flat!
