...do you have a middle name, perhaps a secret one I don't know about?!

The aibu is that I'm howling with laughter, is that wrong?! He's filling in student finance forms, he knows I don't have a middle name! Grin

I don't know why it's funny?

Surely this is only something he would know if you told him?

HennyPennyHorror · 30/05/2019 12:10

How can YOU be unreasonable that your son asked you this?

I wish people would phrase these properly. The correct phrasing is

"AIBU to laugh at my son's question?"

fairydustandpixies · 30/05/2019 12:29

@fresh - this is year 2 at university, he's filled in the forms before, he knows I don't have a middle name especially after almost 19 years of life Smile

@henny - oh dear! Perhaps you should be patrolling the boards for people who say 'passed' instead of 'past' as in 'a man walked passed me...'. Far more useful! Have one of these in the meantime, might help you chill out... Wine Grin

So he asked if you had a middle name, despite knowing you don't have one?

Still don't see the funny part tbh.

I know you were being lighthearted but to be howling with laughter over something not remotely funny?

SparklyMagpie · 30/05/2019 12:51

I genuinely cannot see how I'd laugh at this if my son asked me Confused

GlitterPixie · 30/05/2019 12:52

Eh.... hilarious I’m sure Hmm

Wodkavodka · 30/05/2019 12:53

If posters don't find it funny, maybe they could just post on a thread they do agree with / want to discuss.
I get it OP. Kids are weird Grin

PositiveVibez · 30/05/2019 12:54

Howling with laughter? I don't get it 🤷‍♀️

Am I missing something?

Treaclesweet · 30/05/2019 12:57

Loling at your secret middle name. Would you keep it under the bed perhaps, in a dusty file... One piece of paper... Elizabeth.

SummerLove2306 · 30/05/2019 12:57

I get it OP. I think a few people had sour milk on their cornflakes today!

recrudescence · 30/05/2019 13:00

You actually need to reveal your secret middle name here. We know you’ve got one.

CaptainCabinets · 30/05/2019 13:12

I’m clutching my sides

ShitAtScarbble · 30/05/2019 13:16

Laugh?

I nearly did.

What's funny about it? Genuinely - anyone?

HollowTalk · 30/05/2019 13:17

I'm not sure my children would be dead certain about my middle name. Some people don't admit to a second name willingly if it's an old fashioned name.

LouiseMiltonSpatula · 30/05/2019 13:38

I don’t really get why it’s funny, but that doesn’t mean it’s not amusing to you! Presumably your adult son is robust enough to handle your laughter.

MagnificentDelurker · 30/05/2019 13:40

More information needed to asses reasonableness

thisisadistraction · 30/05/2019 13:50

Can we have a moment of silence please, for all the people that have lost their sense of humour?

DonkeyHohtay · 30/05/2019 13:52

I don;t have a middle name. The kids think it's really, really odd that I don't.

user1473878824 · 30/05/2019 13:53

Bloody hell you lot, no one is asking you to lie on the floor, crying with mirth. "Even a secret one I don't know about" made me smile.

DramaRamaLlama · 30/05/2019 13:53

I don't understand....can someone explain Confused

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 30/05/2019 13:55

Dunno but you’ve made it onto the mumsnet madness twitter page. Well done OP Wink

TheDarkPassenger · 30/05/2019 13:55

There’s a lady in our office with an extremely unfortunate middle name, and I mean extremely. She keeps it a secret so I can understand why he asked!

gamerchick · 30/05/2019 13:55

Can we have a moment of silence please, for all the people that have lost their sense of humour

Personally I just see people who aren't getting laid and pity them instead when the bellend posts come out. Must suck to be them Wink

I get it OP, it's almost like he doesn't believe you Grin

Safirexx · 30/05/2019 13:56

@HennyPennyHorror I agree. Didn't understand the question nor the explanation because of how it was phrased.

But if I understand what I think you said, OP, then I would say you can laugh at whatever you like.

In your shoes I'd probably be rolling my eyes at DS and thinking of something extremely sarcastic to say.

Halloumimuffin · 30/05/2019 13:59

If you can find joy in things that aren't funny then more power to you, laughter is always good.
