To ask how to dress my bridesmaids??

Hp737 · 24/05/2019 12:49

Can anyone suggest how to dress two bridesmaids with very different body shapes? One - #1- is tall (5‘9”) size 20 with big boobs, one- #2- is petite (5’4”) and a size 8. #1 lives abroad so can’t attend fittings etc. A lot of mainstream lines only go up to size 16/18 and I know #1 wants to cover her arms and wear a decent bra, so a lot of the ones I would have liked for my #2 are out. I want them both to feel comfortable and confident.
Any suggestions?

Same colour, different styles?

ryanreynolds · 24/05/2019 12:51

Do the dresses have to be identical?

I was BM for my friend and because I am bigger and require a proper bra my dress had a back, the other girls didn't. They were similar and I didn't feel any different to them.

Not sure where she got them, she measured us and then ordered them online. I got mine adjusted to make it fit better.

Give them a colour and tell them to find something they like and you pay. Obviously set a budget!

It was hard enough finding the same dress for my 2 who were both the same shape but didn't suit the same styles!

JeSuisPrest · 24/05/2019 12:52

You're not going to find one dress that suits both those body shapes - I just chose a colour and told my BM's to find a dress they liked. No drama - everyone was happy.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 24/05/2019 12:52

Or the dresses where you can tie them differently, I forget what they are called right now. But the top half is basically 2 big lengths of fabric.

Pascha · 24/05/2019 12:54

I agree, let them. Mix and match within your chosen scheme. Two happy bridesmaids wearing what flatters them and not being forced I to some hideous monstrosity will be much nicer all round.

Hp737 · 24/05/2019 12:55

The thing is if I say, “pink”or “blue” there are so many different shades of pink, or even light pink or dark pink! Im worried they won’t look like bridesmaids just wedding guests.

Give them a picture of the actual colour you want...

CharlotteUnaNatalieThompson · 24/05/2019 12:56

I had 4 bridesmaids, similar shapes but 3 lived about as far from each other in the UK as possible and the 4th lived in NZ. I bought material for them each to get a dress made in whatever style suited them, and reimbursed the costs to get the dresses made. They looked lovely.

CharlotteUnaNatalieThompson · 24/05/2019 12:57

Cross posted. If you buy the material to get the dresses made like I did that gets around the issue of different shades of the same colour

itswinetime · 24/05/2019 12:59

what are you looking at dress wise high street or the traditional bridesmaid designers?

If it's b then pick a designer and a colour then let them pick from within the range

vinegarqueen · 24/05/2019 13:00

Dig For Victory do dresses made to order. You can have them as custom sizes, and you can have the same fabric but, say, different skirts and necklines, or sleeves on one dress, sleeveless on another. They are also fairly fast on email. Brighton based.

My two had same colour different styles, all long...Greece looking....

Weevle84 · 24/05/2019 13:04

My 3 had different styles in the same colour all from the dessy range. There are stockists worldwide so I'm sure your foreign bridesmaid could find one to be measured and fitted

Something like this? Comes in size 4-22, you could pick a colour and they could have any of the styles they like. I’ve seen the haven one adjusted to have proper thicker straps to allow a bra and have a corset back put in.

WednesdaySpinner · 24/05/2019 13:04

How about something like this?

You can do a kimono type top or have it strapless, however they would prefer to do it.

The image is from the Oasis site and shows the top with sleeves.

Violetroselily · 24/05/2019 13:05

ASOS bridesmaid dresses seem quite universal

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 24/05/2019 13:05

Same colour different styles. Maybe investigate buying fabric and then having each of them get one made where they are.

thecatsthecats · 24/05/2019 13:07

I had a dress from these guys as a bridesmaid and they made my wedidng top: www.dressblee.com/

Very accurately sized, and customisable.

My sister just asked us to pick a style in the specified colour. I sent the maker a detailed design of different sleeves, neckline etc from lots of different images. She executed the instructions exactly, and it looked lovely.

ElijahOrKlaus · 24/05/2019 13:11

Strappy empire dress which will flatter the bigger figure and with bolero jackets that covers arms and allows any bras to be won. Done. 👍🏻

Banhaha · 24/05/2019 13:17

It can look quite nice when bridesmaids aren't in the same colour. Eg. A light and dark pink. As long as the colours are different enough so it doesn't look like you tried to match them.

YesimstillwatchingNetflix · 24/05/2019 13:18

I'd buy the fabric, specify a hemline (or anything else you want uniform) and then send it to them along with money for a tailor in their local area. That way they will both come up with something they like and feel comfortable in, and it will show on the day.

User8888888 · 24/05/2019 13:20

Another one here with different designs, same colour from the dessy range. It worked really well to have different styles suited to the bridesmaids.

WorriedMami · 24/05/2019 13:23

I gave my two bridesmaids a choice of 3 colours from a particular label. Asked them to agree on a colour and they could choose whichever style of dress they preferred.

SpeckofStardust · 24/05/2019 13:24

Agree colour family (rather than exact same colour) and length of dress will tie them together, that way they can pick something that suits them and they’re comfortable in. And of course it’ll be obvious they are bridesmaids, they’re going to be standing up there with you aren’t they and presumably in places of honour at the reception?
