To not be worried about bleeding between periods?

HoumiLoomi · 21/05/2019 09:15

I seem to have a period then 2 weeks later some brown spotting for a day or two. This is something that has only started happening in the last year and I’ve had the contraceptive implant for 2 years. I’ve always assumed it was a side affect of that. I happened to mention it in passing to DH who is insisting I see a GP and seems annoyed I haven’t taken it seriously. AIBU to think it’s just a side affect of the implant and he’s being a bit of a worrier?

I've bled every day since having the implant so it likely that's the cause especially since it only started after you had it. I'd be surprised if you GP investigated it birth tbh unless you have other symptoms.

b0bb1n · 21/05/2019 09:21

I've never had the implant so wouldn't know if it could be a side effect of that, but when I bled between periods it turned out to be cysts on my ovaries.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 21/05/2019 09:25

If it were caused by the implant I would have expected it to have started when you first got the implant, not a year later. In that situation I think it would be worth going to the GP to make sure there isn’t anything else going on.

I never post and just read but I've broken my silence to answer this.

Please go to the doctors. I had break through bleeding and I didn't take any notice of it. Well, I mentioned it to the doctors and it wasn't taken seriously.

When I had my smear I had high grade cells and have had 3 loops on my cervix. Since then it's stopped. It could be a sign of something serious.

newjobnerves · 21/05/2019 09:26

I sometimes spot when I ovulate, so it was very cyclical. They still checked me out just to be sure. They get much more twitchy about bleeding after sex in my experience.

HoumiLoomi · 21/05/2019 09:26

Yes, that’s what I think CatstorTroy. They wouldn’t investigate it anyway AND I’ve got a Gynie referral for something else, which should see an appointment in the next month or two. I will mention it then. DH says I’m not taking my health seriously.

Justreadingtheforum I’m glad you are ok now. I’ve also had CIN2 which caused bleeding after sex. This was successfully treated and I’ve recently had a clear smear/ HPV test. I suppose another reason why I’m not that worried. But maybe I should mention it?

OP posts:
HoumiLoomi · 21/05/2019 09:30

Should also mention that because of my age (25) even when I did have bleeding after sex it took many trips to the GP to get them to take it seriously. That’s why I’m sure they wouldn’t with just a day or two of mid month spotting.

Justreadingtheforum · 21/05/2019 09:32

If I was you I would get them to give you an early smear, at least rule anything nasty out especially as you've a bit of history. Good luck xxxx

HoumiLoomi · 21/05/2019 09:33

Justreadingtheforum I had a clear smear 3 months ago. Not sure if they’d repeat so soon after.

sheshootssheimplores · 21/05/2019 09:34

My bleeding inbetween periods was always due to problems with my cervix. If you’ve ruled that out I would probably equally not be that concerned.

OwlBeThere · 21/05/2019 09:41

ANY mid cycle bless needs investigating. Without being dramatic the only sign I had that anything was wrong before my diagnosis of early cervical cancer was a small bleed. It’s unlikely to be anything like that but it’s important you get checked out.

OwlBeThere · 21/05/2019 09:45

Oh I just Saw your smear was clear. Still best to get checked out.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 21/05/2019 09:51

Hi - I have a very similar cycle to you and have done for years. I have been inspected my nurses/GPs and a private gyno consultant. All of them came back and said it's a hormonal thing; halfway through my cycle my body seems to think it's time to have another period but then cancels itself out.

It's annoying in case it happens while I'm at the gym or something but it's nothing something I worry about now. However, please do get yourself checked out. Just in case it's something different.

NoSauce · 21/05/2019 09:52

I would get it checked OP, your husband is right. You don’t know what’s causing this, it could be the implant but you don’t know for certain.

PatrickMerricksGoshawk · 21/05/2019 09:54

With the implant you’re very likely not ovulating, so you can’t put it to normal hormonal fluctuations as it might be if you were having a normal cycle. There are lots of possible reasons, please get it checked out.

HoumiLoomi · 21/05/2019 10:00

OK guys I will. I will get GP appointment tomorrow. DH happy that I’ve been persuaded to take it more seriously!

HoumiLoomi · 21/05/2019 10:02

I still think GP won’t take me seriously. And will just tell me it’s a hormone/ implant thing. (They did that for months before I was diagnosed with CIN2). But at least I will have tried.

I had pelvic inflammatory disease at the same age as you. No symptoms whatsoever and no cause. I was the very unluncky one of those peopke who xan catch it with no sexual cause( it is posible). It can cause spotting as a symptom like youre describing. If it wasnt for my DH i would have died at the stage mine was caught. Defifitely a trip to the GP for a check up. Good luck.

NoSauce · 21/05/2019 11:14

I’m sure your GP would rather you get checked out OP.

outsho · 21/05/2019 11:18

With a clear smear test a matter of months ago, chances are it’s just a side effect of the implant. It might be worth going to ask regardless but I also wouldn’t be hugely concerned. Some women spot around ovulation time too.

thefairyfellersmasterstroke · 21/05/2019 11:26

I had mid-cycle bleeding that I ignored, and it gradually got heavier. Turned out I had a polyp which was not detected via a smear. Glad you are getting it checked, OP.

HoumiLoomi · 22/05/2019 09:40

Booked GP app for this afternoon. Quite nervous now.

OP posts:
NoSauce · 22/05/2019 10:00

That’s good OP. Don’t be nervous, it’s always better to get these things checked out. I have had a similar thing happen a couple of times now and everything was ok.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

HoumiLoomi · 22/05/2019 15:03

Shit. This could be something bad. I’ve been referred for a colposcopy appointment and told I will get an appointment in the next few weeks. Sad
