To want to know why there is no Remain Party

We've got a Brexit Party, why could Remain not get their act together and form a Party for the EU elections?

ChangeUK is a remain party imo. They don't seem to have any other policies.

Greens and LDs are both remain, but have other policies too. Imo, they would have done well to have had an electoral pact for the EU elections.

Namestheyareachangin · 20/05/2019 10:11

Because most people who want us to remain have the intellectual sophistication to realise that Brexit isn't actually the be-all and end-all, and that a party set up purely with the goal of remaining in mind will not have any holistic view on ALL THE OTHER THINGS that also matter. The Brexit Party is a single-issue pressure group that doesn't even fully understand the single issue it is so passionate about, masquerading as a political party in an entirely cynical way. As you can tell if you actually ask them what they would DO with the 'freedom' from EU legislation they claim we are so badly in need of.

Remain voters by and large are not dimwitted enough to be hoodwinked by this approach.

What ^^they said.

GladAllOver · 20/05/2019 10:13

There are several Remain parties. Four of them in my area. That's the problem, the vote will be split.

PickAChew · 20/05/2019 10:18

Because single issue parties are unsustainable, long term. There are established parties that have never been anything but pro-remain.

UnicornBrexit · 20/05/2019 10:19

@Namestheyareachangin -

^ ditto what they said - and stealing it for my own

Dickybow321 · 20/05/2019 10:28

There is.
this party was formed by a group of lawyers with the sole aim of stopping Brexit.

HappydaysArehere · 20/05/2019 10:30

I’m voting Liberal for the first time ever as they definitely are a remain party.

Dickybow321 · 20/05/2019 10:31

Remainvoter.com tells you how to tactically vote in the upcoming European elections to get a Remain councillor elected by your area. For example in my area I need to vote Green.

Alsohuman · 20/05/2019 10:33

Remainvoter is telling me to vote Green. I’m going to.

Remainvoter is telling me to vote Green

Has anyone done any due diligence on this website ? It might just be run by the Green Party to tell everyone to vote Green.

Goldmandra · 20/05/2019 10:41

Because it would be pretty stupid to elect your representative at in the European Parliament without at least having some idea of how they would represent you.

Crustaceans · 20/05/2019 10:41

It says to vote LibDem for north east England, not green.

And presumably suggests SNP in Scotland.

Alsohuman · 20/05/2019 10:43

It tells you how to vote to achieve the best remain majority. It’s different in different areas, eg it’s Plaid Cymru in Wales. Definitely non partisan.

Somethingoutedme · 20/05/2019 10:43

I think it's ironic that people are complaining about a single issue party but then using a website to tell them how to vote based on a single issue

Goldmandra · 20/05/2019 10:49

I agree, although at least they will have some idea of what the person they are voting for would do when it came to voting on other issues.

Dickybow321 · 20/05/2019 10:50

It's lib Dems in Wales because Plaid Cymru have a safe seat and if lib Dems get one it won't encroach on Plaid Cymru

Bluegreencoloursflashing · 20/05/2019 10:50

I'm happy to vote on the most important single issue of my lifetime, thanks. Austerity, NHS, everything else isn't going to be addressed until Brexit is killed off.

I'm going to have to hold my nose and vote Green (if remainvoter.com is legit) despite their stance on transsexuals.

But how do you know ? How do you know it's wasn't set up by Farage and co (although if it works, it's probably a good indication it wasn't) as a way to dissipate any Remain sentiment ? After all, we know there have been dirty and illegal goings-on around this issue since before the referendum.

I've not used the site, but I'm interested why people seem to think it's the horses mouth ? It takes minutes to set up a website ....

Tiscold · 20/05/2019 10:57

Precisely that's what I'm worried about, how does it actually calculate it and work it out.
Your best bet is to just vote for who you aligns best with your views like at literally every other election you vote for.

So vote libs, vote greens, snp etc

HollowTalk · 20/05/2019 10:58

I think this must be set up by the Greens. I want to remain and plan to vote Lib Dem - surely it's better to vote for them than Greens, just on numbers?

Tiscold · 20/05/2019 10:59

This site is stupid, it told me to vote greens as libs already will gain a seat acoording to them, errrr so why not vote lib to make sure and maybe give them 2 seats?

drspouse · 20/05/2019 11:00

AFAIK Change UK actually know what a woman is, so I'm voting for them.

Dickybow321 · 20/05/2019 11:07

Tiscold does it not say that Lib Dems are already safe in your area so voting Green will ensure another Remain seat?
