Parking fine in Norfolk

Is anyone familiar with the car park by the Quay in Wells Next the Sea?

I've got a penalty charge from them. I was there one evening (dark) and waited in the car with DC whilst DP went to the chippy.

I didn't see any signs (didn't get out of car) - are they prominent?

This could turn out to be a bloody expensive chip supper !

Yes they are I am afraid!

PerkingFine · 16/05/2019 13:59

Can you describe 'em

IAmTheChosenOne · 16/05/2019 14:00

hmm

ReadWriteDraw · 16/05/2019 14:04

Google maps it and look for the signs? How did you get a ticket when you were in the car? Even the usually over zealous West London traffic wardens don’t do that!

wellballstoyou · 16/05/2019 14:16

you parked with no parking ticket? its never free parking ( It does say on the ticket machine sign ( near where the albatross is usually moored).

Beaubird83 · 16/05/2019 14:27

We go to Hunstanton on holiday every year and visit Wells-Next-The-Sea every time for chippy.
Always paid for parking. There have always been signs and they were obvious enough that we knew to pay!

Thanks for replies 😃

The ticket was sent in the post via number plate recognition.

I got caught like this once. I waited in a car park for about 5-10 minutes to pick DP up from the station - nowhere else safe to stop.

Car park was 80% empty and I didn't even get out of the car, but because I didn't buy a ticket - honestly, who would in those circumstances - I got a fine. I tried to appeal but no luck.

Probably best just to pay before the price doubles. I assume it's one of those where it's a £100 fine, but 'only' £60 if you pay in 14 days or similar?

itshappened · 16/05/2019 14:46

We got caught out in the same car park!

PerkingFine · 16/05/2019 14:53

It's infuriating, isn't it? No way would I not have paid the few quid to park. It was dark and I must have been distracted, m'lud! And DH queued for ages for some rather mediocre chips.

itshappened - how did you miss the signs?

OP posts:
wellballstoyou · 16/05/2019 15:25

did you go to plattens?

PerkingFine · 16/05/2019 15:30

I don't know, it was one of the two chippies on the front- DH said both had huge queues.

The end result is to drive custom away.

We holiday in France most years, and only very rarely have to pay for parking.

We went to Cromer last year in September, and had to pay for parking every where., It's OK paying in Cromer and Sheringham, but why on earth is it Pay and Display in Sea Palling. no wonder it's so godforsaken.

Flibbitygibbit · 16/05/2019 17:34

I love the chips on the quay -misses point of thread-

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 16/05/2019 18:04

Is it an official council run car park, OP or a private one?

I successfully appealed a private company parking penalty by pointing out that the vehicle was not parked because the driver could be seen - in their own photo - sitting in the driving seat. And, most importantly, the driver of the car was not the owner so they were pursuing the wrong person.

I had a couple of rounds of online correspondence with them and eventually they let it go.

If it's an official penalty notice I think you'll just have to suck it up.

wellballstoyou · 16/05/2019 18:30

theyr`e all council in wells except at the beach/ pinewoods (holkam estate) and the empty pub land.

wellballstoyou · 16/05/2019 18:31

OP is the albatross back? (the boat that sells dutch pancakes). It was missing when we went....

MoistMolly · 16/05/2019 18:37

Before you do anything else, post the details on Pepipoo. They're normally good at helping get these tickets appealed.

LadyRannaldini · 16/05/2019 22:48

I got one at Stansted, I went into the Shell by the Mid stay, used the loo, bought a sandwich and drink, listened to the Archers as I had my lunch then drove out to the free one hour in the Mid stay. I got a £60 for staying 34 minutes instead of 30, not even convinced I was there for so long.

LadyRannaldini · 16/05/2019 22:51

Better chippy in Sheringham and you can park outside if you're lucky, we spent a pleasant few minutes today being entertained by, I'm afraid, a woman trying to reverse a Golf into a space big enogh for a bus!
Mary Jane's in Cromer is also popular and you can park on Budgens free for 30 minutes.

AlexaAmbidextra · 16/05/2019 23:28

The quayside carpark at Wells next the sea is infamous for this I’m afraid. You have to buy a ticket within 10 minutes of parking or you get a fine. There are signs by the ticket machines that say this. This car park is run by the Wells port authority but is managed by a parking company. They are totally unmoved by appeals so you’ll probably have to pay up. The thing is that if it was dark it must have been after 6pm when the charge is just £1.

AlexaAmbidextra · 16/05/2019 23:30

The end result is to drive custom away.

It doesn’t drive custom away. The car park is always rammed.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 16/05/2019 23:34

@LadyRannaldini no1 is much better than Mary Jane's these days.

Bloke23 · 16/05/2019 23:52

If its council pay the fine!

If its private, ignore it and ignore the 2-3 threatening letters, they will soon stop, I got one a McDonalds car park, just ignored it
