How much chocolate do you eat?

How much chocolate do you eat on average every week? I spent years eating 3 bars per day and finally whittled it down to 1 bar per week for a few months. I was losing weight and my IBS got a bit better.

Im starting to self sabotage and slip back into my old ways though. WHY do I do this to myself?!
I found quitting smoking easier than cutting my chocolate intake down.
How much do you eat and do you crave it regularly?

Probably on average the equivalent of about 1 normal sized bar a day and 8 digestive sized chocolate biscuits. I eat something containing chocolate at least once a day but normally more. I assume I eat far more than the average person though.

BethMaddison · 13/05/2019 14:56

A lot. Probably a big bar each day but I’m active and have a fast metabolism

Oysterbabe · 13/05/2019 14:56

Maybe once a week. I'm not that fussed by it.

CupOhTea · 13/05/2019 14:59

It's so addictive op! I think it's the sugar.

Have you thought of giving up sugar for a while? All sugar, I mean, so no fruit or sweetcorn etc. I've heard it can be life changing! I've been very low sugar for about a week now and I don't crave it anymore already. I wasn't eating that much of it anyway though.

Ellabella989 · 13/05/2019 15:02

@cupohtea I gave up sugar a few years ago and didn’t have anything at all like fruit, alcohol, chocolate, biscuits etc. I lost weight, had glowing skin, IBS improved and had more energy. I know it’s good for me but I can never stick at it for more than a month. I need to develop better will power!

It varies...I find that if I stop eating it altogether I can go weeks without, but if I start I can't stop. After piling weight back on since Christmas I really need to leave it alone at the moment so I haven't had any chocolate bars in a couple of weeks (I did have a Cadbury's mini roll (or 3) last week though.

CupOhTea · 13/05/2019 15:14

I know what you mean op. I am in the zone at the moment, but I also have phases when I just don't want to try. It makes no sense, as nothing tastes as good as healthy feels (to misquote Kate Moss Grin). But I do it too. Total self sabotage!

firstimemamma · 13/05/2019 15:17

Before baby - limited to once a week or less / small amounts but binge eat every period.

Now that I'm a mum - loads! Especially if I've hardly slept or something. I tell myself that I deserve it! Not great I know!

CupOhTea · 13/05/2019 15:22

I think small babies make a lot of mothers hit the chocolate! When we had dc1 Nutella became a bit of a crutch 😬.

Elphame · 13/05/2019 15:27

Virtually none. I gave away all the chocolate I was given for Easter to a friend.

I used to eat a lot but the cheapening of mass market chocolate made it taste so terrible that I just stopped wanting it.

Laniakea · 13/05/2019 15:30

Not much - I don’t really like it, dark chocolate triggers my migraines & most milk chocolate tastes gross now. Fruit cakes & bread are like crack to me though.

Taswama · 13/05/2019 15:31

Chocolate bar eg twix- about once a week when feeling bored at work (don’t have any at home)
Chocolates - several on a Friday evening with a glass or two of wine most weeks. Currently still eating some Mother’s Day Chocolates!
Chocolate in dessert - about once a month.

managedmis · 13/05/2019 15:34

I very occasionally eat dark chocolate with fleur de sel. The lindt stuff. Maybe on average 1 bar per month.

I can't eat the milk chocolate stuff, I get crazy when I eat it and can't stop.

managedmis · 13/05/2019 15:36

I follow a very low sugar diet. I eat fruit, drink a glass of wine per day. I avoid crap carbs. Never have cakes, chcoc, dessert.

dameofdilemma · 13/05/2019 15:40

Every day, mostly dark chocolate (and choc buttons!), probably equivalent to a bars worth.

Chocolate has never made much difference to my weight but too many unhealthy carb based meals and too much wine has.

Personally I'd look at these things in the round. There are far worse things to be eating (and drinking) regularly - fatty meat, take aways, wine, too many starchy carbs etc.

If you have an otherwise healthy balanced diet of mainly lean proteins and veg and are reasonably active then I wouldn't worry about the chocolate!

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 13/05/2019 15:56

None. I'm not particularity keen; it adds nothing nutritionally and the sugar buzzes around in my veins.

Dhalandchips · 13/05/2019 16:02

None, I don't like it either. People don't believe me! Insist I have just one! I just don't like it! Like liver;don't like that either!

Stravapalava · 13/05/2019 16:35

I go through phases with it. Sometimes I'll eat loads and sometimes I just don't fancy it. I'm in a "not bothered" phase at the moment. I prefer something more "interesting" than a block of chocolate - so eg Twix, Maltesers, something with additions, iykwim?

outvoid · 13/05/2019 16:38

Not as much as I used to. I find my sweet tooth is depleting the older I get. I used to struggle to get through a day without a bar of chocolate but now I can honestly say, I think the last time I ate some was Easter!

MaMisled · 13/05/2019 16:42

I used to eat approximately 3 to 5 chocolate biscuit bars plus a bar of chocolate most days. At weekends I'd have a big bag of chocolate covered peanuts on a Friday, a huge bar of fruit and nut on Saturday and a huge bar or bag on a Sunday! I lost 4.5st and am maintaining but during the weight loss, and now, every 3 weeks or so I eat so much I have to go to bed!

Otterhound · 13/05/2019 16:46

I love chocolate but dont crave it - probably eat a bar a month, usually dark or at least 40%

Pleasegodgotosleep · 13/05/2019 16:52

Tonnes! I eat choc or cake every day, I have a massive sweet tooth but I don't eat crisps or drink alcohol and I'm breast feeding so kid myself it's ok....

HappyHippy45 · 13/05/2019 17:06

I eat a small bar (26g) of Willies Cacao dark chocolate every night sometimes two For dark chocolate if you're not a fan it's really very good.
If I bought bigger bars I'd eat the whole lot. I can't eat dairy or much sugar so I spend a bit more on these as they have far fewer ingredients than regular milk chocolate.
I also gave up drinking alcohol so the chocolate helps when I get to that bored time of night.

Fairylea · 13/05/2019 17:12

Too much. Seriously too much. About one family sized bar a day over the course of a day or a large family sized share bag. Mainly counters or milky bar. I just really love it. I know it’s not good for me, I’m slightly overweight and I don’t eat as well I should, I am very active though. Hours of brisk walking everyday. I just love chocolate. Blush
