Advice please!! Petechial rash (meningitis)

Just put my 3 yr old in the bath he has what looks like the beggining of a petechial (none blanching) rash ... He is perfectly well in himself ... Do I ring 111 or watch and wait ? I have anxiety and don't want to come across as neurotic but you hear so many stories?

Does he have a temperature?

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 12/05/2019 19:43

I would try an antihistamine and see if the rash goes. Does he have any other symptoms? Can you post a picture of the rash?

Partylikeits20199 · 12/05/2019 19:44

Any non blanching rash on a child needs to be investigated. Call 111, they will likely suggest you go to a&e

userlotsanumbers · 12/05/2019 19:45

So, you've done the glass test, it's not disappearing? If so, then you need to get the child seen.

rabbitheadlights · 12/05/2019 19:46

No temp nothing perfectly well , yes glass test done and it doesn't bkanche

I hope you went to A&E. I’ve done the same before and there was no judgement from the staff at all. It was only a very experienced consultant who was confident enough to send us home saying it wasn’t meningitis. For a non-blanching rash you should get it checked out.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/05/2019 19:47

Seek medical advice. They absolutely won't care if it turns out to be nothing. I've lived through meningitis, it's not worth taking a chance.

rabbitheadlights · 12/05/2019 19:49

Pic not very clear though

Seek professional help, either 111 or hospital. Dont waste time posting us a pic. Flowers

Morningchorus · 12/05/2019 19:51

You should go to A+E with that. Could be something like ITP, they would need to do bloods to check.

rabbitheadlights · 12/05/2019 19:51

I saw the rash at 19:30 I'm calling 111 now

It’s likely to be nothing, but always best to have it checked. One of mine used to get this occasionally. He was perfectly fine, no temp or any other symptoms, but we did call 111 and got it looked at the first time it happened. We were told that the meningitis rash usually appears as a later symptom, when it is already clear that the child is very poorly, so it’s unlikely anything to worry about on your son.

QOD · 12/05/2019 19:54

Hope he’s ok

Samind · 12/05/2019 19:55

Good luck and hope 111 are able to direct you. Has he got any allergies? Hayfever?

littlepeaegg · 12/05/2019 20:01

I hope he's okay! How worrying

Faithless12 · 12/05/2019 20:01

I’d get it checked but if he’s fine in himself and doesn’t have a temperature then they won’t be too worried.

Strugglingonagain · 12/05/2019 20:02

Hope hes ok. Best to be checked!

Nicecupofcoco · 12/05/2019 20:06

Get it checked op! I'm sure it's nothing but better to be safe. Ds had this, only three spots and they still wanted to see him up in a and e! He was otherwise fine in himself!
In the end they said most likely from a viral infection! Hope something similar for your little one.

rabbitheadlights · 12/05/2019 20:20

Hi guys so 111 have advised that an out of hours gp will call me within 2 hrs .... Little monkey thinks it's Christmas it's well past his bedtime. Trying not to let my anxiety take over I guess if they were very worried they wouldn't have me waiting for a gp to call 🤞

And he's just asked for some fish?!?! 🤔 Odd child

scaryteacher · 12/05/2019 20:24

My feet and legs are covered in a rash like that when my platelets drop, so it could be ITP. Kids sometimes get it and then it goes again.

Worth getting checked out though.

Dottysmum18 · 12/05/2019 20:32

My son had a rash all over his body it was appearing infront of our eyes . He had to have lots of tests turned out to be HSP (Henoch-Schönlein purpura) but was very scary hope ur boy is ok

rabbitheadlights · 12/05/2019 20:37

Thanks everyone , I hope so too, gp have advised he needs to be seen to be on the safe side, just waiting for DP to get home from work to be with the other children will update when I can

Hope he's ok, one of mine had similar and by the time we got to be seen it had all not disappeared, we think it was irritation from the conifers at the top of our garden.

candlefloozy · 12/05/2019 20:51

My daughter had something similar. There was no explanation for it and she was fine. But I did get it checked out which I think is always for the best.
