Hate it and don’t k ow why 😂

OP posts:
WeeDangerousSpike · 12/05/2019 19:15

Fuck me. I thought it was just me.

'Aww bless you' it's so bloody patronising.

Like I'm a small child or a cute kitten being endearingly daft.

MeredithGrey1 · 12/05/2019 19:33

I find it annoying because I don’t ever know what an appropriate response to it is.

WeeDangerousSpike · 12/05/2019 19:40

Absolutely. No idea how to respond.

My immediate thought is 'fuck off' which I admit isn't usually appropriate Grin

Rspu1384 · 12/05/2019 19:41

Yes! Patronising! Omg thought it was just me too. Feel like they think I’m a child

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 12/05/2019 19:44

Patronising was what I thought too.

TipseyTorvey · 12/05/2019 19:45

Usually done with a head tilt. I hate it too. Always feel like I've had a head pat and usually end the interaction ASAP.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 12/05/2019 19:49

Yup. It's normally said by those who also call people hun, hubby, sweets or babe

Sn0tnose · 12/05/2019 20:00

I don’t ever know what an appropriate response to it is.

The only appropriate response is to wince and say ‘Oh no, you’re not one of those are you? Seriously, has nobody ever punched you on the nose for being so patronising?’

EvilMorty · 12/05/2019 20:02

YY! What does it even mean anyway?

CareBear50 · 12/05/2019 20:04

It doesn't bother me.....but lots of other things do lol. Apparently it harks back to the days when people used to believe your soul left your body when you sneezed. And 'bless you' was said to reunite the soul and the body. Apparently!

MiaCulper · 12/05/2019 20:06

Inappropriate response was, “What? Are you a fucking priest now?”

But she hasn’t said it since, so...

tomtom1999xx · 12/05/2019 20:06

Yes, very patronising, as if they feel so sorry for you.

EvilMorty · 12/05/2019 20:06

I don’t think OP means after a sneeze. I think they mean in the context of general conversation when the person you are speaking to thinks you’ve said something twee, naive or childish.

PinkiOcelot · 12/05/2019 20:07

It’s patronising and annoying. Hate it.

redhotchill · 12/05/2019 22:10

I hate the responses to threads where the OP is having a hard time....."oh honey"

Fuck off

EmpressLesbianInChair · 12/05/2019 22:19

What kind of twat says “Aw bless ya”?????

RevokeRemainpastcaringreally · 12/05/2019 22:22

I find it patronising when young women say it to me. As of tomorrow I'm going to tell them so. They'll think I'm potty but I'm taking one for the team.

TheFaerieQueene · 12/05/2019 22:23

I haven’t ever heard that. If I did, it strikes me as something that would annoy me though.

ComicSans · 12/05/2019 22:25

It’s maddening. We had a gardener in to do some clearing about six weeks ago, and he turned out to be a clueless youth, who said ‘Aw, bless ya’ in response to anything I said. So I would say, ‘We’re moving soon, and haven’t replaced our lawnmower, so the lawn needs cutting’, and he’d say ‘Aw, bless ya’. Or I’d say ‘Don’t cut back this tree — we like not being overlooked by the neighbour on that side’ and he’d say ‘Aw, bless ya.’

Added to which he knew nothing about plants at all, so I concluded it was a sign of a low IQ, paid him off and said we wouldn’t be requiring his services again.

Nonnymum · 12/05/2019 22:26

Unless it's Bless you! said when someone sneezed its awful I hate it too. Especially hate it when people just say Ah bless. It's so patronising.

newjobnerves · 12/05/2019 22:32

So I moved to a part of the country (think East Midlands and a bit more east) and when I got here I heard it often and hated it, now a few years later I realise the intent in which it is said and it doesnt bother me. I know I'm guilty of saying it too (to the people who say it as well, it's not how I'd speak to people from other places I've lived or other parts of my life if that makes sense??) seems very common here.

newjobnerves · 12/05/2019 22:33

(But not "ya")

Dhalandchips · 12/05/2019 22:33

Fuck yes!!

stucknoue · 12/05/2019 22:34

Yes, it's so common here too, that and being called duck!

BastardGoDarkly · 12/05/2019 22:35

I must live in "awww bless ya" capital.

Everyone says it, I've yet to find a response that stops them, without being rude, I've got to work with them after all 🤦‍♀️
