I have noticed this recently- it is so patronising!

ComicSans · 12/05/2019 22:41

Bastard, where is it, so that I can avoid it for life? Or not be done for murder by day three?

FreshAprilStart · 12/05/2019 22:44

Is it as bad as 'you're a star'?

likeafishneedsabike · 12/05/2019 22:51

It’s really annoying. BUT round here I think it’s just a way of somebody saying ‘I hear you’ or ‘that’s a bit of a pain’. Maybe an expression of sympathy if your car has broken down or something.
It isn’t meant to be patronising I don’t think.

“Aaw bless you/ya” makes me think of the saying “bless your cotton socks” which for an adult, is extremely patronising.

Also dislike hearing the following: “if you get what I’m saying” - yes we are speaking the same language after all.

“Obviously” when said before or after a statement that isn’t at all obvious in the context of the conversation being held.

“At the end of the day” - it’s night, cliche reply but I know a couple of friends who use this phrase to death!

“Good girl” FIL says this and just manages to get away with it because he’s actually a very lovely man (and 72 this year) when he says it, it’s usually his way of saying “well done” to me, I do wish he could just say well done as it makes my eye twitch whenever he says it... but he’s actually a very open minded man, just can’t get out of certain habits when it comes to phrasing 😂

Mrs Hinch constantly says it about Henry the dog "Aw, bless 'im" and sometimes about the husband as well, when they're not calling each other "babe" or "babes"

Do people actually call their partner "Babes" in real life? Hmm

I absolutely hate it - I actually find it really rude, as if dismissing your problem because they can't be bothered to listen or they think your problem is small and petty. I was telling a nurse yesterday about my crippling anxiety, depression and mood swings due to menopause and she just said 'aw bless you' and it really fucking made me mad! 😂
