My cat is cheating on his partner.

A few years ago our cat (we shall call him Tom) made friends with a scrawny little cat from up the road (we shall call him Dick) Poor little fella was starving and Tom would happily let him eat his food. Tom is a beast and at least twice the size of the other one. Dick eventually with the owners permission moved in with us.

Now it’s starting again. The same pattern. First Tom was always with this new cat (we shall call him Harry). Wherever we saw them in the garden they were together gradually getting closer. Now Harry was in the house this morning eating my cats food. Tom happily sitting on the side observing.

Dick is more of a house cat and isn’t as adventurous as Tom but they do sleep together and give each other a good lick.

Aibu to say to Tom no more and also be a bit sad that we have raised a serial cheat and feel bad for poor Dick who has been a loyal partner for years.

Harry is all fluffy and shiny and will break Toms heart but what can you do? You just try your best for them, accept the odd dead rat on the floor and now this......Grin

hard to say without CAT PHOTOS - sorry

SaraSiddle13 · 11/05/2019 12:34

Ménage a trois

pigsDOfly · 11/05/2019 12:37

Poor Dick. How's he taking it?

Orangecake123 · 11/05/2019 12:44

Think Tom is being just cruel, to bring someone into Dick's home too is more than just rubbing it in his face.

We should make a show.

There's a male cat opposite our house who started hanging out a lot with our female cat and we would often see him in our garden too.

Next door got a female cat who was only 9 months old.

Our cat attacked next doors cat.

She was pregnant by you've guessed it.

LemonRedwood · 11/05/2019 12:49

Sidney is silently judging Tom.

(Sid is also the neighbourhood tart and lets other cats in and watches them eat his food)

My cat is cheating on his partner.

I think you are being a bit presumptuous actually. I mean you are not with Tom and Dick all the time are you? For all you know hey may have had a serious discussion and decided to try threesomes or even polygamy.

picklemepopcorn · 11/05/2019 12:51

Maybe Dick is a voyeur? YABVU to assume this isn't consensual.

PillowTalker · 11/05/2019 12:53

Dick should LTB, he deserves better

OldAndWornOut · 11/05/2019 12:54

Perhaps they're giving polyamory a try?

AndOutComeTheBoobs · 11/05/2019 12:54

I think it was Dicks idea...

UbbesPonytail · 11/05/2019 12:55

Oh poor Dick. YANBU

My cats don’t even like each other that much and they’re mother and son!

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 11/05/2019 12:56

This is another Male cat I checked with the owner. Tom definitely has a type!! Dick seems to be battling through the pain.

Tom is such a friendly cat though, never once heard him hiss. If there is another cat squaring up to him etc he is just so placid, just looks bemused and generally walks off.

Hmm. I think you’re gonna need a bigger house because your cat, Tom, sounds like my cat, Bob. We currently have 3 permanent ‘guest’ cats - Sam, Fred and Ivy - because of Bob. He just keeps bringing random strays home, one a year on average, and they end up staying. He’s fine with sharing everything with them. They occasionally hiss and spit at each other to be nearest to Bob at nap time.

Trouble is Bob has a sister, Betty. Betty is firmly of the opinion she should have been an only cat. She is not fine with sharing anything with anyone, well, except Bob. She tolerates Bob (because he’s Bob and everyone loves Bob even Betty though she’d never admit it to him) but she has zero tolerance for these interloper cats. It’s her life’s mission to make them leave or, at the very least, get the fuck out of her way, which, in fairness they do in a hurry because she’s Betty and no one fucks with Betty.

Mayalready · 11/05/2019 12:57

He needs to ltb.

MRex · 11/05/2019 12:58

Is Tom a ginger? Ginger cats always seem to be very social with other cats, building up local gangs.

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 11/05/2019 12:59

LemonRedwood Haha I love that face

Merryoldgoat · 11/05/2019 13:01

There’s no reason Tom should stop making friends because he’s got a partner. Is Dick controlling?

shiningstar2 · 11/05/2019 13:05

Haha. I think Tom is a social worker type cat. He hasn't deserted Dick he just feels duty bound to help all cats in need. Could work out expensive. Grin

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 11/05/2019 13:08

SpeckofStardust I love how Bob is like the Heff with all the playboy bunnies fighting to get the attention.

Mrex no he’s not a ginger but Dick is. Poor little fella. I was looking for photos but swapped phones recently and deleted a lot. They are all out now and won’t be back for a while. Getting up to god knows what!

Specks of Stardust I love the sound of Betty Grin

Kittekats · 11/05/2019 14:37

What does Harry’s owner make of this?

agnurse · 11/05/2019 14:42

I think you may need to make room for another mog Grin

Maybe Dick tolerates the new cat because he is ginger. We have a ginger and apart from when we brought a kitten home (jealousy - sorted now) he has never met a human or an animal that he didn't like. He tried to make friend with a DOG once.

pigsDOfly · 11/05/2019 15:01

I was also going to ask if Tom is ginger. My cats, who are, sadly, no longer alive, were ginger - all ginger male and ginger and white female - and he was the most sweet natured cat imaginable.

He once adopted a very scraggy looking stray - turned out stray had feline aids and had to be pts. My lovely cat looked out for this poor cat, who was living in my garden, for several days while we were trying to trap him, even fighting off the huge neighbourhood bully several times; such a hero.

I'm not surprised though, that Dick is ginger. And agree he'll probably tolerate the interloper. Many's the time I would walk into the kitchen and find a strange cat wolfing down my cats' food while that sat and watched.
