To ask you to stop taking illegal drugs?

Bit of a crazy post but there must be a small percentage of people in here who take drugs for pleasure. I don't care about your health: I don't want criminals to get richer, teenagers getting stabbed in gang warfare and any of the other victims of the trade. Also the waste of tax payers money fighting the crime and keeping the criminals in prison. So next time you fancy a line or a smoke please think who is getting richer whilst contributing nothing back to the country.

What if you grow your own? 4 plants is legal in Spain?

Arusedmoose · 06/05/2019 20:36

The taxpayer thanks you for your emotional plea OP Hmm
If people don’t care about themselves and their own health, why would they care about the issues you’ve listed? Falling on deaf ears I think

waltersdog · 06/05/2019 20:36

Cannabis?? 'I don't care about your health' ????

goose1964 · 06/05/2019 20:38

Also a lot of drugs use slave labour. Including grass grown in the UK

Olivebrach · 06/05/2019 20:38

Sounds like you should be advocating for decriminalisation of drugs if you want them issues to be solved tbh.

People are always going to take drugs.

Prohibition has been a disaster and fueling the criminal activity and gang violence for way too long.

You should be asking the goverment or local representatives.

Itsnotmesothere · 06/05/2019 20:40

Erm I guess we should stop buying any product with a morally questionable back story.Phones? Apple products? Nestlé? Coca-Cola? Milk from supermarkets? Avocados? Cashew nuts?

newtlover · 06/05/2019 20:41

I don't think it's a crazy post at all.
I bet there are loads of casual users who are all about fair trade this and organic that but don't think about the harm caused by the drugs trade, not just here but all the way back to the original growers.
4 plants in your conservatory is a very different matter.

bamboofibre · 06/05/2019 20:42

I think decriminalising them is the way to go. I used to grow my own cannabis and magic mushrooms (dried them in a food dehyrator).

HunterHearstHelmsley · 06/05/2019 20:44

My job relies on drug use. I'd rather people didn't stop.

Highheels1 · 06/05/2019 20:44

Another vote for decriminalisation here.

riotsnotdietsx · 06/05/2019 20:44

I feel more strongly about people eating meat than taking drugs to be honest.

HollowTalk · 06/05/2019 20:45

What's wrong with cashew nuts?

riotsnotdietsx · 06/05/2019 20:45

Besides drugs can be lots of fun (hides behind sofa)

MatthewBramble · 06/05/2019 20:45

Legalize it and tax it.

GoFiguire · 06/05/2019 20:47

Cashew nuts make you fat and therefore societally unacceptable.

Baloonphobia · 06/05/2019 20:47

If only someone had said this year's ago we'd have never had a problem. Oh, wait, they did.

Iwantacookie · 06/05/2019 20:47

@riots GrinGrin

Gingernaut · 06/05/2019 20:48

A large portion of the commercial cannabis farms rely on slave labour.

The number of Vietnamese criminals (many of them legally children) is frightening.

County lines gangs also rely on vulnerable underage 'couriers', not to mention the 'average' street gang.

Unless you 'grow your own', you're contributing to the gang problem.

aprarl · 06/05/2019 20:49

They already know OP. They just don't give a shit.

HBStowe · 06/05/2019 20:51

This is why we should legalise all drugs. Instantly drain the money from the black market, make sure the drugs aren’t cut with rat poison or any other shite, massively improves racial bias for drug crimes, and use the taxes raised from legitimate sales to fund intensive education and rehabilitation programmes.

tinyme77 · 06/05/2019 20:51

I'm probably pro legalisation. I definitely think that doctors should be able to prescribe cbd. It's Newtlover's POV that I share. Middle class weekend drug takers/cool clubbers who only buy top end but don't think of the consequences of funding criminals as they don't get their hands dirty. You are right, I should write to my MP but Mumsnet is much more fun!

dilemma74 · 06/05/2019 20:52

Totally agree with you OP - I’ve had to distance myself from a couple of former friends who banged on about their righteous social/environmental values yet thought nothing of doing a few lines of coke on a weekend. Just fucking nauseating. Also agree (reluctantly) that legalisation is probably the best answer to the problem.

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 06/05/2019 20:59

If there was a choice of ethically sourced drugs then I think your request would have more chance of success Grin

I'm also a supporter of reform of the drugs laws as the sensible way forward. It's inevitable too. Much like the criminalisation of homosexuality, I think our current policy will one day seem ludicrous.

EvaHarknessRose · 06/05/2019 20:59

Agree. Kids being recruited to county lines - always the most vulnerable, groomed by adults. Vulnerable adults being cuckooed. Forced labour, unsafe conditions.

EmeraldShamrock · 06/05/2019 21:02

I agree they should be legalised, monitored and taxed.
The problem with taking the profit from criminal activity, won't turn them into good guys, they'll find another product to fund their lifestyle, trafficking people, cigarettes, who knows.
I took drugs in my early 20s, I was ignorant to the effects, would education have made me think twice, yes probably.
After watching Gordon Ramsay in a coke factory, it made me cringe for my body I abused, who's life's were affected although it was many many years ago now.
