To ask you to stop taking illegal drugs?

Bit of a crazy post but there must be a small percentage of people in here who take drugs for pleasure. I don't care about your health: I don't want criminals to get richer, teenagers getting stabbed in gang warfare and any of the other victims of the trade. Also the waste of tax payers money fighting the crime and keeping the criminals in prison. So next time you fancy a line or a smoke please think who is getting richer whilst contributing nothing back to the country.

What about the waste of tax payers money with regards to cigarettes, prescription drugs abuse, alcohol related illness/violence etc....

BlackForestCake · 06/05/2019 21:42

You could say this about anything.

“The issue is that those who are habitual or recreational car drivers don't necessarily equate their full tank at the weekend with the sheer devastation of lives, never-ending war in the Middle East that allows them to get their hit.”

On balance, I am in favour of legalisation. But I am not looking forward to it because I really, really hate the stench of dope and I am unwillingly exposed to it often enough as it is.

The number of dickheads who bang on about ethical clothing and fair trade bananas but ignore the true cost of their Friday night line amazes me.

They will tut reading the Evening Standard over another nameless teenager being stabbed on an estate in south London safe in the knowledge that their Oliver and Freya live in a naive area, go to a naice school and this won’t come into contact with the kids of the same age who die. They will feign ignorance over their direct connection to the coke they buy.

The economy could well collapse if everyone stopped buying illegal drugs overnight.

So there's another argument for legalisation, I guess.

perhapsiwill · 06/05/2019 21:47

Drugs are not destroying the planet though- capitalism, planes, cars, eating meat, fossil fuels etc etc are

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 06/05/2019 21:50

Just a tangent. I was given IV Morphine in A&E recently and I got a high from it. Just makes me wonder if this experience opens eyes to the harder drugs.

NorthEndGal · 06/05/2019 21:53

We have legal cannabis in Canada. Grown here, government taxed and inspected by Health Canada.
It hasn't got rid of the black market, because legal weed is more expensive, but it has opened up avenues for adults who wished to partake but not be breaking laws.
There are no perfect solutions, but I do think we are headed the right way

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 06/05/2019 22:01

Yep, a close relative and their children had an illegal cannabis farm in an empty house next door - electricity board and police came out straight away and said they were lucky to notice their party wall was extremely hot as it was close to setting on fire (the gang had been maxing out the electricity) A family with young kids in bed. It doesn't bear thinking about if they'd have gone to bed and not noticed.

This happens frequently in our city, but yes enjoy your spliff and give zero fucks about where it came from and who it endangers.

SplashingAroundTown · 06/05/2019 22:12

Couldn’t agree more OP. I’ve never taken anything. Never been tempted. Almost ALL my friends have tried/used a bit. I don’t know anyone now who still does. Have no idea why people ignore the people who suffer in the process of their selfish drug use.

Does anyone have any links to stories mentioned in this thread?

The woman being forced to smuggle while their children are held hostage...I can't find anything about this?
