To think the UK media silence on the Prince William rumours is odd

Just that really. No idea if there's anything more than rumour and speculation, but it's all over social media that Prince William allegedly had an affair with one of Kate's friends, but there is a total media silence on it.
Pretty bizarre considering that Meghan Markle barely has to breathe and the media are covering it.

Who are the Palace PR posters Humpy?

Humpy84 · 25/04/2019 15:41

whyohwhyowhydididoit this is so defensive, do you work for the royal family ?

Would you holiday without your partner and instead with two very attractive models ? It was a strange event.

“ If he did which I doubt, it will have been his money she was after.”

Won’t be Rose Cholmondeley then!

Badtasteflump · 25/04/2019 15:45

Don’t think Rose needs PW’s money... or could get her hands on it. Probably just the thrill of shagging a future king?

LaurieMarlow · 25/04/2019 15:46

generally seen as a sport for the royal males to participate in.

Didn’t hold Anne back. Or Fergie/Diana (though you could argue they didn’t start it)

tanpestryfirescreen · 25/04/2019 15:46

There are numerous reports about both the Queen and Prince Phillip going back to the 1940s.

LaurieMarlow · 25/04/2019 15:47

I expect there’s a social cache to shagging a royal if you move in those circles.

SherlockHolmes · 25/04/2019 15:48

I suspect the media won't publish anything until they have some proof, for fear of being sued. Hearsay isn't good enough.

I think wills doesn’t look that great in photos but I bet in real life he has appeal. He’s arrogant, can fly a helicopter, has a deep voice, towers over most of us probably and if things went sour and he burnt you and broke your heart, you’d probably come out of it with a Burmese ruby that you could auction at Sotheby’s and buy a house with. Ok I’ve just set feminism back 500 years. All I’m saying is that for a fling he’s ok. Except for the married part. Look, if you were going to shag a married man then wills is a better story to confess than Gary from IT. I’m just saying that to say he’s so off putting is a lie. All of us would go there, I feel he wasn’t married, all of us.

PCohle · 25/04/2019 15:53

Why can’t the press write a story about the rumour, they’re not stating it’s fact

Because merely putting the phrase "it is rumoured that" or "allegedly" in front of a statement doesn't protect you from having a defamation case brought against you. Nor does the fact you are repeating a story reported elsewhere.

user1471590586 · 25/04/2019 15:54

I think that if there is any truth to it the palace would want it suppressed to protect the royal family. After all the affair drama with Charles, Camilla and Diana they probably thought William and co were a fresh start. A lot of people will have liked William and Harry because of their mother. You can see from comments in newspapers that there are many who blame Charles for Diana's death (because of his affair). If they found out that William was also conducting affairs (having learnt nothing from his mother's situation) it would damage support for the royal family.

LaurieMarlow · 25/04/2019 15:54

Porchy

They didn't actually shag in The Crown (which I treat as irreproachable historical fact Grin)

Humpy84 · 25/04/2019 15:55

Are you a turnip Toff ? Please elaborate @ Boysey45

LaurieMarlow · 25/04/2019 15:55

I don't know about that, everyone I know thinks hes an utter dog.

He's still immensely rich, powerful and a royal. His looks don't matter that much.

To give some context, women have shagged Andrew Lloyd Webber.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 25/04/2019 15:56

Not RTFT but not sure there has been UK media silence about it. The TImes/Sunday Times have certainly mentioned it.

Humpy84 · 25/04/2019 15:57

I think if WIlliam was found to be having an affair it would be the end of the monarchy.

Humpy84 · 25/04/2019 15:58

@lauriemarlownjust spat out tea laughing at this. You make a good point backed by that example.

DoNotBlameMeIVotedRemain · 25/04/2019 15:59

I suspect there's no injunction. More likely the British press don't have enough evidence to prove the story if the royals started a libel action against them.

Snort.

Humpy84 · 25/04/2019 16:05

I would like to know what is actually being discussed in aristocratic circles. Surely there is someone on mumsnet that is a turnip Toff or an Aunty who knows a Marquise.

Humpy84 · 25/04/2019 16:07

@alaskanoilbaron was meant to be read with humour not seriousness
