To think the UK media silence on the Prince William rumours is odd

Just that really. No idea if there's anything more than rumour and speculation, but it's all over social media that Prince William allegedly had an affair with one of Kate's friends, but there is a total media silence on it.
Pretty bizarre considering that Meghan Markle barely has to breathe and the media are covering it.

I know MarkleSparkle. Boris Johnson also looks like he would have a build up of cheesy matter under his foreskin.

I'm not a subscriber to the Mumsnet poo crumb threads and am a bit laissez-faire about washing my towels and bed sheets. But I do look at people's teeth and think: 'Oh my God. You can get a tube of Colgate for 99p.'

IcedPurple · 26/04/2019 21:15

Only by the fact that Diana looked supremely unhappy when Charles's affair became public.

Sure but Diana was also putting on a show for the media - in her case, that of the innocent wronged wife (reality wasn't quite so straightforward). This was her tecnique for getting the public on her side in the War of the Waleses, and it worked very well for her.

FannyWork · 26/04/2019 21:32

She worked alongside someone who'd encountered the QM or Queen as was them and said that she was, and I quote, a 'bitch'. GM never swore, and was of the generation who showed massive deference to the Royal Family. She never believed the cuddly old Nations Grandmother bollocks.

She was absolutely right not to. Apparently she was a horrible woman, a rampant social climber who kicked down.

She was widely believed to have set her cap at the future Edward VIII when he was Prince of Wales and wasn’t very happy when he clearly wasn’t interested and she had to settle for the younger brother the Duke of York.

When the abdication happened the QM was widely known to be delighted to be Queen but in public she claimed it was a terrible burden she didn’t want which ruined her husband’s health and led to his early death from lung cancer not his 100 fags a day habit. Edward and Wallis weren’t perfect by any means but her behaviour was vengeful and plain nasty, particularly as she really relished the position.

She was notorious for favouring her descendants who were likely to be on the throne at the expense of the other ones who she largely ignored.

Virtually none of the famous wartime stories about her are true, eg Hitler saying she was the most dangerous woman in Europe, saying she could ‘look the East End in the face’ when Buckingham Palace was bombed, the refusal to evacuate the Princesses abroad because ‘the Princesses will not leave without me and I will not leave without the King and the King will never leave.’ All written by wartime propagandists. She ran up huge debts which the Queen had to pay off and she was incredibly nasty to friends who had difficult personal lives or fell on hard times.

She was hard as nails.

My grandmother worked in service as a maid as a young woman just before WW2 broke out. She worked alongside someone who'd encountered the QM or Queen as was them and said that she was, and I quote, a 'bitch'. GM never swore, and was of the generation who showed massive deference to the Royal Family. She never believed the cuddly old Nations Grandmother bollocks.

WillGymForPizza My mother would say the same. She was a teenager in the Blitz and remembered the Queen Mother visiting her area in her diamonds and furs. The oft-repeated myth was that at last she could look the East End in the face because Buckingham Palace had been bombed.

The truth is that she was rushed away after people started to boo.
The myth persists just like the present Queen being a Land Girl. It is Insulting rot.

The Royal Family were in the relative safety of Windsor and had an escape route to Canada at the time. Her visits to East London were a photo opportunity.

Your Diana post was deleted but this is a far greater crime!

"The oft-repeated myth was that at last she could look the East End in the face because Buckingham Palace had been bombed."

Imo a bloody stupid thing to say if it ever was.

As if it put her on a footing with them or would have given her any understanding-what with having multiple other homes to go to.

I do wonder how like her mum QE is.

Mintandthyme · 26/04/2019 21:50

It’s still going on though - this fallacy that the RF are some kind of super human species
Posters here refer to the Duchess kid Cambridge as growing ever more regal, for example.
What a load of shite it all is really.

MsLucyHoneychurch · 26/04/2019 21:50

IcedPurple - your posts read like you want these rumours to be true.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/04/2019 21:50

Thé QM was known as a steel marshmallow.
She insisted that Wallis Simpson lost her HRH title.
Also Diana said she favoured William over Harry

SweetestSugar · 26/04/2019 21:52

Was this the same night he (allegedly) exclaimed at the bar, "I'm freeeeeeee!" before buying multiple bottles of champagne @ByeClaire?

IcedPurple - your posts read like you want these rumours to be true.

Since you're taking an interest in my posts, you must have read that in my very first post I said that although the idea of a 'royal' being unfaithful is entirely unsurprising, there seems to be very little actual evidence to support this particular theory.

However, none of us knows what's going on behind closed doors and a few staged photo ops tell us very little. That's true even for us 'normals' and even more true for those whose entire 'job' is based on projecting a certain image.

Alsohuman · 26/04/2019 21:58

Wallis Simpson never was HRH, it was Diana who was stripped of it. The stream of bollocks on this thread is incredible.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/04/2019 22:03

Sorry I should have said; made sure Wallis was never given a hrh title

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 26/04/2019 22:04

I have been in MN a while and I’m no fan of the royals or indeed sleb gossip.

But this thread has been one of the best I have ever seen on MN for hilarious anecdotes, gossipy titbits and banter.

longwayoff · 26/04/2019 22:06

Ha! My mother used to call the QM 'the costermonger's wife' on account of her extravagant hats.

Butterymuffin · 26/04/2019 22:07

No, but wasn't Wallis denied the chance to be HRH The Duchess of Windsor rather than 'just' the Duchess..? Supposedly because the new King and his Queen (ie the Queen Mum) didn't want that.

I can recommend the hilarious Laurie Graham novel Gone With The Windsors to people enjoying this thread. It's her comic fictional version of what went on with Wallis, the abdication and the Royals, but lots chimes with the gossip about them.

RemodellingMyHouse · 26/04/2019 22:09

Love it! Grin I agree with pps - everything I've heard about the QM sounds like she was a pretty nasty piece of work to those she considered beneath her.

longwayoff · 26/04/2019 22:09

Have to agree glasgow, this thread has kept me going all day. Thank you all Grin

I have no hard evidence of Boris's cheesy dick, Quintella
but come on, on circumstantial evidence, a jury would convict.

Quintella · 26/04/2019 22:14

Grin I don't doubt it I'm just horrified that mention of Boris' dick cheese can be casually dropped onto a thread. I find the sight of the man hard enough to stomach without now wondering what lurks beneath his flappy great boxers.

Quintella · 26/04/2019 22:15

The Pearly Queen

UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool · 26/04/2019 22:16

If you enjoy the Soap opera aspects, The Windsor’s on Netflix is fabulous. Basically the Royals played as a soap opera in the style of Days of Our Lives. Harry Enfield is Prince Charles, also Camilla as a schemer, Bea and Eugenie, Fergie and Andy, Wills, Kate, Harry and Pippa as a femme fatale.

lyralalala · 26/04/2019 22:16

No, but wasn't Wallis denied the chance to be HRH The Duchess of Windsor rather than 'just' the Duchess..? Supposedly because the new King and his Queen (ie the Queen Mum) didn't want that.

Stanley Baldwin and Queen Mary were also opposed to Wallis being HRH so she didn't stand a chance of getting that title.

UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool · 26/04/2019 22:18

Also the Queen never appears, but occasionally they read out a letter from Grandpapa (ie Prince Phil) laced with Fucks and slight racism.
