Its just me and my boyfriend. We have been together for almost 5 years. Travelled quite a bit together so far and looking for a new holiday destination for this summer for 2 weeks.
What we need:
Hot weather
Sea
Being able to visit lovely beaches for half of the holiday
Sightseeing, cultural things for the other half.

Any advice, ideas, experiences would be much appreciated.

😊

Essaouira, Morocco.
Ona gulet off the coat of Turkey.

whiteroseredrose · 24/04/2019 22:10

Jordan? Petra etc for sightseeing. Dead sea for relaxing.

Zoezz · 24/04/2019 22:13

Cyprus (pathos area hasn’t got great beaches the north and east have better beaches), Portugal, Mexico has great mix of culture and beaches, what about a cruise. You can have days sightseeing, days on beaches, sea days by the pool. Great food. Entertainment, a new place every day

Cautionsharpblade · 24/04/2019 22:19

Tel Aviv, huge beach, great food, friendly people. Use it as a base for sightseeing incl Petra in Jordan. Expensive as fuck though

I literally discovered Casa Cook this evening - the hotels look gorgeous. They're mostly in the Greek Islands though so probably not for you.

Sri Lanka (yes even) especially after the bombings.
Vietnam
Cambodia
Mexico

HBStowe · 25/04/2019 06:53

Sri Lanka would be perfect for this.

carmelsundae · 25/04/2019 06:57

Was also going to suggest Sri Lanka. It was a few years back that we went but it was such a lovely country with such lovely people.

SJDiggle · 25/04/2019 08:20

Bali all the way - went for honeymoon and would go back in a heartbeat. Fantastic food, cheap once out there, lovely beaches, beautiful temples and other historical sights, can do island hopping trips too - definitely recommend

Laura221 · 25/04/2019 08:28

What about a road trip around France? They have beautiful swimming lakes and lots of beautiful things to visit.

Top of my list is Bali though but not somewhere I want to take my 3 children so I'm going to have to wait for that visit.

ToothlessReg · 25/04/2019 08:38

Indonesia - Bali is great but personally I preferred other islands. Tons to do and see, easy to get around - you’ve got orangutans in Kalimantan or Komodo Dragons in Flores if you want wildlife, hiking up volcanos, Borobudur in Java if you want temples... the Gili islands are great for diving, Lombok has lovely beaches. Weather should be good in our summer. We backpacked around for 4 weeks one September and loved it Smile

imamearcat · 25/04/2019 11:00

Thailand? We did Singapore, Bangkok and a few islands which was fun.

BlueSkiesLies · 25/04/2019 11:07

Not Morocco unless you enjoy huge amount is hassle.

BlueSkiesLies · 25/04/2019 11:08

Lots of friends have been to Sri Lanka over the last few years and have loved it, perfect mix of beach and culture.

Ellabella989 · 25/04/2019 11:09

Sardinia is a stunning island!
Croatia is also beautiful

Hollowvictory · 25/04/2019 11:09

Mauritius

FlashingLights101 · 25/04/2019 11:11

What's your budget? That will make a difference as to whether people should suggest Blackpool or Barbados Wink

AdaColeman · 25/04/2019 11:11

Croatia, lovely beaches, loads of history.

Zoezz · 25/04/2019 11:36

No budget at the moment. Previously we spent £3000-4000 on holidays. However some of these were ski holidays which are a bit more expensive in my opinion.

If you want the best of both worlds (i.e. sun & beach but also sightseeing & culture), then I'd recommend somewhere like Barcelona or Malaga. Sicily and Rhodes are also great.

If you're going in the summer, just be aware of going too far south as it can get really very hot.

If it doesn't have to be seaside, but just tanning and water, then I'd consider Switzerland.

If you're flexible with timing and can go later in the year, Cape Town is amazing from November onwards in terms of weather, and has tonnes to do (with a lot of bang for your buck)

AGirlinLondon · 25/04/2019 11:53

Vietnam&Cambodia is a fantastic holiday, as is Borneo/Lombok/Bali/Gilis - Indonesia is a great trip all round and very easy to get around on budget airlines. We are just back from Sulawesi which was awesome.

Branleuse · 25/04/2019 11:57

corsica

heroineinahalfshell · 25/04/2019 12:06

We did an Italy driving trip for our honeymoon, stayed in 4/5 star hotels for 3 weeks & it cost us about £3K (and that included motorail trains to get our own motorbike out there). We did Tuscany, Umbria, Rome, and the Amalfi coast. Best holiday ever!

gingerscot · 25/04/2019 12:07

I LOVED Sri Lanka, was there late last year and was amazing and perfect for what you’re looking for. Don’t let recent news put you off, we all still go to London, right?
