To have a bit of a thieving compulsion?

Am I the only one?

At the beauticians when left alone to undress/get dressed/get up... does anyone else look around and have a bit of a compulsion to steal something? I actually never have but the thought always crosses my mind.

I had a friend a few years back who was having a lot of Grindr 'booty calls' (for want of a different phrase) and he told me about how he'd gone to this guys house and got down and dirty in the lounge and then the guy said 'I'm going to have a shower, see yourself out' and then left him to get dressed and leave. The first trying I asked was 'did you steal anything?' 😬

Is it just me!?!

It's just you.

HundredMilesAnHour · 24/04/2019 17:59

Yep, it's just you. Why on earth do you want to steal something?

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 24/04/2019 18:00

Just you

YetAnotherUser · 24/04/2019 18:01

I don't know about stealing, but a lot of people get intrusive thoughts about doing inappropriate things. It's quite common.

Wherearemycrayons · 24/04/2019 18:02

Not a thieving compulsion but I would be tempted to have a snoop. I wouldn’t take anything though.

FoxSquadKitten · 24/04/2019 18:02

Erm, just you Confused

Finfintytint · 24/04/2019 18:02

Although I’m amazed at how how some people leave themselves open to theft, no, it’s not my first thought.

rosydreams · 24/04/2019 18:02

WhoopImMaking6BucksAnHour · 24/04/2019 18:41

Shit, it is just me 😱 I'm a bit shocked, I thought it would be fairly common!!!

Bunnybigears · 24/04/2019 18:42

I think it's just impulsive thoughts, I often have impulsive thoughts about jumping off bridges/tall buildings it doesn't mean I am going to do it though.

Mrsemcgregor · 24/04/2019 18:49

I frequently want to throw my keys into the sea/a lake. Have had the odd thought about stepping in front of a train, or worse pushing some unsuspecting person into the tracks. I never would of course. It’s weird, but normal I think?

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 24/04/2019 18:51

I always adopt ‘lost’ pens my students leave in the classroom.

WhoopImMaking6BucksAnHour · 24/04/2019 19:02

@ThatssomebadhatHarry 😂

@Bunnybigears @Mrsemcgregor ah I'm glad you both came forward, I was getting a bit concerned!

chippingalong · 24/04/2019 19:04

Of course it's not just you! 😉

Downthecanal · 24/04/2019 19:04

whoop my mother is the same and actually does steal things. She is banned from the local shopping centre.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 24/04/2019 19:10

I'm the same. Never have stolen anything but it's like that urge to jump when you stand on the edge of high drop and look down. You don't actually want to, it's just this instinct.

NotTerfNorCis · 24/04/2019 19:11

I think it's the pressure to be nice and polite and rule abiding all the time that brings out these thoughts.

I remember as a young woman, having lunch with the very old, dignified, self-important CEO and feeling a tremendous urge to insult him. Just because it was so very important not to.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 24/04/2019 19:11

No you are not the only one it's a really common compulsion that and like another poster said snooping.

The thoughts aren't really an issue you need to worry about unless obviously it spills into actually stealing things!

Bluntness100 · 24/04/2019 19:13

No I don't have this urge. I really don't think it's common. I'm sorry.

Dieu · 24/04/2019 19:17

I'm the same. I was left alone in the optician's consultation room the other week, and was tempted by a bottle of saline solution (which I had happened to run out of, for my contact lenses)! Grin I didn't take it though.

TheQueef · 24/04/2019 19:17

I sometimes get the urge to take something, not valuable but something that would be missed.
Mostly I get the urge to poke cakes and buns to ruin them or smash packets of biscuits.
I never do it though I'm still welcome in co-op (if only they knew what I'd do to their macaroons)
