To have a bit of a thieving compulsion?

Am I the only one?

At the beauticians when left alone to undress/get dressed/get up... does anyone else look around and have a bit of a compulsion to steal something? I actually never have but the thought always crosses my mind.

I had a friend a few years back who was having a lot of Grindr 'booty calls' (for want of a different phrase) and he told me about how he'd gone to this guys house and got down and dirty in the lounge and then the guy said 'I'm going to have a shower, see yourself out' and then left him to get dressed and leave. The first trying I asked was 'did you steal anything?' 😬

Is it just me!?!

@Notthecarwashagain I've been quite tipsy in a Tesco express and shouted 'bread' when looking for the bread 😬 in my time. I guess the alcohol lowered my inhibitions and I went with it!

I was having a facial the other day at a fancy beauticians and when she left the room so I could get changed I looked around and thought, “shit, there’s literally thousands of pounds of product just lined up here, I wonder how many people take stuff Shock”, then pondered some more and realised it was probably mainly empty bottles!

WhoopImMaking6BucksAnHour · 24/04/2019 21:01

@CakeNinja Oh I wonder if there is a lot of empty bottles? Now I'll probably get caught picking them up to see next time!!! 😂

I often think I could steal something, mainly clothes when trying things on or in shops without an assistant nearby would anyone notice?
Never have though Smile

CakeNinja · 24/04/2019 21:05

I do think a lot of it must be, I don’t suppose there’s any CCTV due to the fact you get undressed.
Or just that they trust the customers not to rob them! I certainly didn’t think about it, but I did wonder how many people had tried it.

WhoopImMaking6BucksAnHour · 24/04/2019 21:11

@CakeNinja you're only a step away! 😉

Just the thought of it makes me feel incredibly anxious. If I stole something, it would make me feel awful every time I looked at it. Even if I thought no on would ever notice.

I have always called it the impulse invasion. Just random fleeting thoughts like in a cartoon with big red button that says do not press, and you really want to press it. You know the outcome won't be good but the temptation is still there.

In the hairdressers a few months ago, whom i have used for years. She has a REALLY old brush sat at her station. She never uses it, it is clean but it looks old and disgusting, the handle is worn and dis-coloured and the bristles are bent out of shape ( i think it was out of her first professional set) she never uses it, it just sits there and makes me cringe everytime i see it , i have been so tempted to put the damned thing in the bin when she isnt looking. I have refrained and of course would never do that as it's obviously sentimental to her but seriously the temptation is so unreal i may just have to find a new hairdresser!

Another one is 2women at work, who are very good at looking busy, love to tell other people how to do their jobs and critisise others constantly and believe that the rules dont apply to them (things like carrying uncovered hot plates/ drinks through communal areas or standing on tables in stilettos) i have a little tom and jerry style cartoon reel running through my head of tripping them up and them landing with the plate and its contents on their heads. Blush again i wouldnt do it but the thought does pop in to my head.

WhoopImMaking6BucksAnHour · 24/04/2019 21:58

@CynthiaRothrock why are they standing on tables in stilettos?!

I have call of the void thoughts all the time. Throwing my phone in the river as I cross it. Hurting my partner (even when I'm not annoyed by him 😆) smashing his face into the steering wheel when he drives is the main one. Obviously not anything I'd ever actually do. Just things I think "right now I could do

I am sure it is very common and would probably put you at the top of the survival hierarchy. Stealing things for self-preservation is surely a good instinct to have in a way. It would ensure that you survived over those who had no compulsion to steal to survive.

@WhoopImMaking6BucksAnHour the last reason they did this was to staple a Christmas banner up (not allowed to use staples in the very expensive new building either as we get charged for the damage) . There were plenty of decorations up already but this 1sq ft of wall obviously felt left out and needed a banner.... they do it for alsorts of reasons and always get away with it. I honestly did not daydream about sawing the leg off of the table itchy and scratchy style.....

stucknoue · 24/04/2019 22:21

Only in hotels, you have to take the little bottles even if you don't use them, it's the law right Grin and if they leave the cart full of toiletries in the corridor, well ....
