Reverse image search

My boyfriend has stumbled across a picture on the internet that looks astonishingly like me. It's not me but it looks so much like me I can see why he is upset.

I have reverse image searched and it is coming up with dates in 2013. Is this definitely the date that the image was first put on to the internet?

I look significantly different now than i did in 2013 due to surgery on my face 6 months ago and the picture resembles me now not me then.

Aibu to ask you to help me save my relationship? I don't blame him for questioning it i was questioning it myself until I saw the dates.

Hahahahaha - no that is not me.

The meme is basically (not) me with a messy face and a creme egg added and the words how do you eat yours. Not particularly funny even.

The worst of it is I bought hin a creme egg easteregg. Comes with 5 creme eggs. I can't give him that now 😂

When I was sending off for university prospectuses years ago, there was a girl pictured in one of them in the kitchen of a student flat who was the spitting image of me. It definitely wasn't me though, and if I'd met her IRL we probably wouldn't have resembled each other that much. I found it quite freaky at the time to have found my double!

Simple - show him a picture of you taken in 2013 beside this image (which seems to also be dated 2013) and he will be able to see that it isn't you.

OP, to answer your question, if it comes up dated as 2013 on google image search, that means that the image in question has been available online since at least 2013.

So if you looked significantly different in 2013 then yes, that's proof that the photo isn't you.

You can use a website called tinyeye to do a more detailed image search than by just using google.

(i'm a printer and use it to find higher resolution versions of old artwork)

But yes, more helpfully, I use reverse image search regularly when I'm trying to mediate in copyright rows. The date showing means that it's been online since then.
