That no one believes me About my coil strings?!

Had the copper coil fitted in October, all been fine. Apparently the strings were tucked up around my cervix.

Past 2/3 months Iv felt them really low. Especially since the last period. Like literally hanging out low! Dp says he’s felt them a few times but thinks Iv been dramatic. Iv been to the family clinic at the doctors twice and both times have said they are tucked up, they wouldn’t untuck and it’s unlikely Iv felt them. When I walk I can feel them sharp digging in!

Tonight have had enough and had a look. (I don’t look down there after a traumatic birth then repair surgery. It’s not a pretty sight!). It’s hanging out! Green fishing wire!!

I’m going to ring again tomorrow. Iv taken a pic 🤢🤢🤢 but I’m refusing to leave until it’s sorted. I’m so worried, what if it’s been moved or something?! 😩😩😩

Oh poor you.

Well done taking the photo though. Will help at the Dr!!

(And I agree about looking there after birth. I'll never look again!!! A true shock!)

marvellousnightforamooncup · 15/04/2019 20:57

I've heard of this happening. Do insist.

Gintonic · 15/04/2019 20:58

Are you telling me you photographed your cervix? How?? Or are they literally hanging down outside your vagina? Confused

Tinyteatime · 15/04/2019 20:59

Yes, they can sort of fall out. It’s unusual but it can happen. It was in the info leaflet they gave me after I had mine fitted!

MummyCool19 · 15/04/2019 20:59

I’m so angry about it
😂

Urgh yeah I really don’t look down there. Two vaginal births and then repair surgery, thankfully had an elective section with my third. I hate things like smears because it’s so uncomfortable with the scar tissue 😩

Outside my vagina! It’s definitely not protruding out of the cervix, can only feel strings no plasti !

4 times I went back when I first had mine fitted! I feel your pain with the strings!

Livedandlearned · 15/04/2019 21:00

Similar happened to me op. I got pregnant shortly after Shock

Tinyteatime · 15/04/2019 21:00

Also if its come out presumably it won’t have been acting as a contraceptive. Did the doctor examine you when you went?

Fartymcnarty · 15/04/2019 21:01

This happened to me then the coil actually came out!!!!!

PookieDo · 15/04/2019 21:02

My IUD fell out. It felt like something was trying to get out and scratching me. I felt some pressure. I kind of caught it when it fell out over the toilet and washed it and presented it to the nurse at my appointment as evidence it really did fall out. But then popped it on the shelf at home and DC found it and have never forgiven me for my forgetfulness

MummyCool19 · 15/04/2019 21:02

Yep was checked last week and she said they are nicely tucked up. I dont think the coil is coming out, I just think they didn’t cut the strings 😩

thequeenofsandwich · 15/04/2019 21:02

Had exactly the same
Was dismissed by family planning clinic until it became apparent that my cervix was severely prolapsed

Tinyteatime · 15/04/2019 21:03

Oh right so it’s just the strings have been left too long maybe and become ‘untucked’. I think there’s a real skill to fitting them so they are just right.

MummyCool19 · 15/04/2019 21:03

I can deffo reach my cervix and can feel the strings coming out but no hard plastic

EvaHarknessRose · 15/04/2019 21:04

I wonder if there is somehow something pressing down on it when you are standing that doesn’t when you are being examined lying down? I am thinking of the pressure I felt down there when I had a large fibroid, but which my GP didn’t diagnose when I was examined.

MummyCool19 · 15/04/2019 21:07

Possibly! But it was when I was laid down I first felt it, maybe the spectrum pushes them up?! I’m scared she will put it in and catch it 😩

It could be just long strings or it could be moving downwards. I had two IUDs come out and the first one gradually started moving downwards until one day, after doing Pilates, I felt plastic protruding out! They didn't really believe me when I called, but they did when I came in and showed them. Grin

I hope it's only long strings because if your body rejects a coil once, it's more likely to do so in the future. After losing two coils, I was told that I wasn't suited to them and had to use other contraception.

MummyCool19 · 15/04/2019 21:15

Fingers crossed! I had a coil before and it was my best friend apart from the hormones 😂.

The pain of this one after it was fitted though told me it was going to be different! The day after I thought I was going to have to go to the doctors with the pain I was in 😩

DH once told me that this happened to his ex wife, he felt the strings and within a few days it had worked its way out. I mentioned this to my gp when I said I didn't want the coil for this reason, and he told me not to be so daft and said it couldn't have happened. Bloody male doctors don't take notice of women at all.

Juicyfrooty · 15/04/2019 21:17

The strings would have to be really long though to be visible outside of your vagina, your cervix would have to be really low for that to happen.

I have to squat and really rummage (TmiBlush) to check my coil strings.

MummyCool19 · 15/04/2019 21:20

I am ovulating so not sure if that makes a difference?

Arghhh 😩😩

My colleague took her own coil out! Couldn’t believe it when she told me Shock

tinysnickersaremyfavourite · 15/04/2019 21:21

I can feel my strings, they were never 'tucked up'. But they don't hang out of my vagina. If yours do and the coil is still i position then wouldn't that would suggest that your cervix is extremely low and possible prolapse?

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 15/04/2019 21:22

Now I'm curious - what causes a cervix to hang low? Is it childbirth buggering everything up?

'Cos I can easily get to mine as well, never had trouble checking for strings. Grin
