To think he should have been told off???

Had to endure a training day today. Big room full of people, nightmare. Anyway an hour in and trainer woman tells us it’s time for a comfort break. Bloke in the room flings his leg out and kicks his shoe flying across the room which knocked a cup of water over onto my (works) laptop. I now have to fuck about driving to the other end of the city to get the laptop either repaired or replaced and nothing is said to him other than “that was a bit stupid”

All because she said “comfort break” and it causes him to lose his shit. I feel like I get taken for an absolute fucking mug, I really do

No everyone (including him) were laughing their heads off. Apparently they’d all been talking before hand about how certain phrases pisses them off and one of his was comfort break.

How much can you actually tell an adult off, especially if you have no authority over them? Is she an external trainer? If so, she has no authority at all.

Was it an accident? Did he apologise?

As a teen I did a 'comedy' leg crossing once in class with too much gusto and my shoe flew off Blush No one got hurt and nothing got broken but if it had i'd have been mortified and would have apologised and offered to put everything right.

Trainer should have told him off for being disruptive and behaving dangerously. It could have hit someone in the face. They all went back to office laughing about it and when manager heard about it all she was bothered about was me going to get it fixed ASAP

I don't think you should rely on someone else to 'tell off' another adult. You should have approached him about the laptop repair/replacement.
Telling off is for children.

It sounds like annoying, childish behaviour on his part and I would be fuming in your position, OP. I'm not sure that a telling off would achieve anything, though, as it was a freak accident. What he really should be told off about is not apologising afterwards.

Deliberately throwing somethins does not fall into any 'accident' category!

I'd be back to my line manage to complain vociferously about wasted company time, company money and the sheer fucking arrogance of it!

If he's in the same company, can you not suggest that he's the one who takes the laptop for repair because he caused the issue?

I was responding to the OP pointing out that the shoe was thrown deliberately, by clarifying exactly which part of the incident I was describing as accidental.
