Neighbours smoking cannabis

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of the smell of cannabis.
I stay in a flat and my neighbours downstairs smoke cannabis everyday. My flat absolutely stinks of it and opening the window makes the smell worse.
Yesterday I was called into my dds school and they could smell the cannabis of her. I explained it was my neighbours but they have still made a referral to social services.

OP i would make a SAR to the school because if it were me i would want to know what data and is being held on me if it were me.

HelenaDove · 23/03/2019 19:35

*and info

I do no where they work they both work in a nursing home near me.
I have no issue with social services coming out they might be able to help with the smell.

My friend who has complex epilepsy, Eherlers Danlos, gastroprasis, smokes cannabis, she is in so much pain and it helps her, her landlord is fine with it. I would not judge as they could have a medical condition.

Aeroflotgirl · 23/03/2019 22:43

Oh god, that is difficult if school have done that. Can you explain to SS that it is your neighbours that smoke it, and show them yourself.

newname12019 · 23/03/2019 22:59

@Aeroflotgirl If they are smoking it for medical reasons would they be smoking it all day? I don't think they have stopped smoking it all day today because they open the window when they are smoking and stand at it and the window has been open all day.

It dint think my friend smokes all day, probably 1/2 a day. It sounds very bad if it is that strong in yiur flat and all over your clothes.

PCohle · 24/03/2019 11:58

I'd try and speak to the police again. Regardless of their force's priorities, cannabis is still a class B drug and possession is a criminal offence.

Have you explained the SS involvement to the police?

HelenaDove · 24/03/2019 17:27

there is a very pungent smell of skunk in the more well to do roads i walk down (4 or 5 bedroom houses) i wonder if they will be getting passed on to SS The ones who are ACTUALLY using that is.

HelenaDove · 27/03/2019 20:32

Doesnt surprise me about the nursing home tbh. I think the girlfriend of the one downstairs might be a mobile care worker.

EmeraldShamrock · 27/03/2019 20:40

If the smell is so strong and constant, they're growing it.
Do they work shifts can you work out when they are both put and if there is a still a heavy smell they are growing it.
The floor above mine stunk all the time, I assumed they were heavy smokers, after I moved out the apartment went up in a blaze, totally destroyed from the heat lamps in minutes, thankfully it was the top floor, it is scary to think my DC slept below a full grow house. The smell was strong constant.
If you're above them and it did go up.
There jobs are irrelevant weed smoking is everywhere in lots of circles now, I can smell it in the air constantly.

@HelenaDove

They won’t disclose any intelligence they have about the welfare of your daughter, it’s not an automatic right to know all data, it’s reasonable data and if they have a good reason not to tell you then they don’t have to, which they absolutely won’t.

Also to another pp, someone who smokes weed daily will not be ‘stoned’

Op, they’re probably smoking hash, if the smell is that bad, it sure how that helps but I feel for you

Social services probably won’t call you but I would be tempted to call them for a home visit. You can’t request this yourself, I did when my mother in law was making malicious calls to them, to cover my own back and prove I had nothing to hide.

The police won’t care about weed, there’s much much bigger things going on and not enough police to deal with them.. they’d have to be dealing a lottttt to bother the cops. (I work for them)

TheDarkPassenger · 27/03/2019 20:48

YOU CAN** request this yourself, my bad

HelenaDove · 27/03/2019 21:01

Im not the OP

newname12019 · 27/03/2019 21:28

I ended up phoning social services on Monday and they came out today. They agreed the smell was awful and said they were happy it wasn't coming from my house. They were brilliant and really understanding and have said they will do everything to try and get it stopped. I asked them about what the school had said and they said the only concern was the strong cannabis smell and there are no other concerns which was a relief.
They have said they will contact the police and ask that police go and check if it's been grown in the property. They are also going to contact another department in the council but I can't remember who that was.

That's great OP - I'm glad it went so well with SS.

EmeraldShamrock · 27/03/2019 23:16

Great news OP.
It is disgraceful having to put with it stinking your home and clothes.
If they smoke all day I bet they smoke on their breaks in work, bad form working in a care position.

HelenaDove · 27/03/2019 23:24

thats great news OP.

VladmirsPoutine · 27/03/2019 23:29

Liar

OldAndWornOut · 27/03/2019 23:30

I know someone who works in a nursery who smokes.
Social services know, and do not see it as a problem, since she is a fully functioning, working adult.

EmeraldShamrock · 28/03/2019 00:05

Weed cannabis is much more tolerated today, at least if is legalised served in cafes it'll stop so much smoking in residential areas.
It'll also give smokers a choice of flavours instead of skunk, in different strengths.

Coldandfrosty · 28/03/2019 00:12

So vile. Myst be horrible op

Nurseornot · 28/03/2019 01:09

I had this happen to a flat I lived in years ago. I think it's good that they are going to check if they are growing it because I don't think occasional use would take over the whole building.

Have you considered getting a child friendly fragrance for your daughter in the meantime? Maybe something like one of these www.theperfumeshop.com/kids-perfume/b/47

newname12019 · 28/03/2019 07:22

@Nurseornot I hadn't even thought of that and she would love that. Thank you!
