Bastarding Argos

Ordered a new washer dryer for delivery today because it's the only day I can be home for the next week. Take the day off as they're delivering between 7am and 6pm. Up and dressed by 630am. Received a text advising me that they'll be delivering in a particular 2 hour time slot this afternoon and I'll get a call about an hour beforehand to give me a more definite time. Lovely. I take out the old machine and wheel it out for collection.

Receive a call from a very cheery sounding delivery man telling me he'll be here within the hour.

Happy days.

Of course I now realise that the reason he sounded cheery is because he was taking the fucking piss. Half an hour later I get a text from Argos telling me that they weren't able to deliver today. No explanation.

Called them to find out why (because apparently the onus is on me to find out) and it seems they didn't bother loading it onto the van. No apology, nothing. The (frankly quite arsey) call centre woman asked - When can we re-deliver? Doesn't re-deliver imply they tried in the first place?

I've cancelled the order since I don't trust that they'll bother pitching up the next time, am now without a washing machine and am fuming at having had to waste my time and money with them when, if I'd wanted to have delivery a different day, I could (and would) have gone elsewhere.

I've now lost a day's pay for nothing and I'm going to have to wait 5 days before they refund my debit card.

Am I being unreasonable for being furious about this? Would it have been that difficult to just give me a call to let me know (especially having called to tell me they'd be here within the hour)?

JL are shit at not turning up. I did the same thing, took a day off work and they didn't come. Told me the delivery driver had said my road was closed. I pointed out the multiple routes to my house and the council webpage showing no closed roads and they were still arsey. Pushed it and eventually got a £10 voucher. I avoid them now if I can.

I don't order anything 'big' from argos now. A few years back me and dh had just moved and ordered some lovely sofas. Delivery day came, and went, no word from argos despite us ringing/emailing etc. Eventually got through to them and they genuinely didn't care that they'd fucked the delivery up. Then went on to say we'd have to wait another 6 weeks for a slot. No thanks! Cancelled and went to dfs.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 21/03/2019 18:37

I'd get from currys or Ao

hazell42 · 21/03/2019 18:39

Argos are usually excellent. It sounds like the delivery driver wasn't aware it wasn't on the van.
Mistakes happen I guess.
No excuse for the call centre staff to be rude though

BikeRunSki · 21/03/2019 18:42

Co-Op Electrical are very good too. They deliver on weekends for no extra charge.

cricketmum84 · 21/03/2019 18:52

Argos are buggers for this. Once ordered a new bed for our son. Spent the morning disassembling the old one and had arranged for someone to come out and get it before the new bed was due between 4pm-6pm.

Argos delivered the new bed but "forgot" to load the mattress on to the delivery truck. Poor kid had to sleep on the sofa for 2 nights until they "re-delivered" his mattress!!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 21/03/2019 19:15

That's crap! Definitely complain loudly l. Do Argos do their own deliveries or use couriers? I ask because I had a new bed delivered recently, the company were great, the couriers were appalling! They wouldn't take the mattress upstairs (it was a massive double that took 3 people to lift, luckily my parents were able to come round) and they hadn't put the slats on the van. I couldn't just take another day off and I don't have anywhere for them to leave the slats so had to have them sent to my parents - who had to wait in for two days because courier didn't deliver when they said they would-
and coordinate a day for parents to come round to drop off the slats and help get the mattress on the finished frame. I was lucky that the company was embarrassed and chased the couriers or it could have been very heavy weather.

I’ve several machines from Coop and always had good service. electrical.coop.co.uk/laundry/washing-machines/

Dieu · 21/03/2019 19:27

That is so so far from good enough, OP. Absolute pisstake. It boils my blood to think that companies can pull this shit and get away with it.

sugarcubed · 21/03/2019 19:32

I wouldn’t use AO, they fucked me over too, a few times including forgetting to load the washing machine on the van too.

PostcodeJack · 21/03/2019 19:34

Just had a v dismissive response on messenger from Argos telling me they've cancelled my order (that's big of them since I cancelled it) and telling me it was beyond their control. How is not loading an item beyond their control? Didn't address any of my points and basically compounded the fact that they weren't remotely bothered

Theonewiththecat · 21/03/2019 19:38

Currys did the exact same thing to me.
Oh sorry we haven't loaded it onto the van, We will arrange redelivery.
Eventually I got the item, but it cost them nearly £80 in compensation.

Then Argos wouldn't deliver something to my house, their van was too big. 🙄

PowerslidePanda · 21/03/2019 19:42

Argos did this to me with a wardrobe.

Rather than cancelling, I arranged for it to be delivered another day. Shortly after, I got an email asking for a review and gladly left a truthful one. Only to get a message back saying that they weren't going to publish my review because I'd commented on their (shockingly poor) delivery service, and should only have talked about the product!

AKAanothername · 21/03/2019 19:44

Another vote for Co-Op electrical here, always had really good service from them.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 21/03/2019 19:45

You need to leave a shitty message on facbook and twitter for all to see. It always stirs a response. If just to get your refund pushed through quicker.

ShimmeringIce · 21/03/2019 20:10

I had similar from Ikea, rang to confirm a delivery after weeks of been messed about and was told it would definitely be delivered that day, it had left the depot on lorry number 7 and would be with me around lunchtime. Rang back in the afternoon and was told it was out of stock!

I don’t care if call-centre workers are paid minimum wage, bare-faced liars deserve —to burn in hell— to receive the same treatment in return Angry

PostcodeJack · 21/03/2019 20:30

They're ignoring my messages now!
