To hate 'in your ear' headphones?!

They make me feel like I'm underwater and always give me earache or headache. I don't think I like being attached directly to the technology either!

Please can someone recommend an alternative that would be good for running?

I've got some bone conducting ones (I have a middle ear condition so can't wear in ear or over ear phones. They're brilliant.

toffee1000 · 11/03/2019 20:45

YES! My ears seem to be a stupid shape and the earbuds always drop out. There’s no way I’d use AirBuds without a lead, I’d lose a bud and never find it again if I went out in public with them!!

Arnoldthecat · 11/03/2019 20:47

I think that many people are putting themselves at risk from hearing loss due to over exposure to loud sound. They will not realise it until it is too late and then there will be no going back.

IWantChocolates · 11/03/2019 20:54

I have ones that go in the ear but hook over the ear so they're secure for running etc. Normal ear buds don't stay in one of my ears, I think it's an odd shape.

Can't wear them anymore, though, due to now wearing hearing aids (which are not due to exposure to loud noise!).

I've got some bone conducting ones (I have otosclerosis so can't wear in ear or over ear phones). They're brilliant.

Just like iklboo. Best present ever from DH. Have revolutionised my cycle-ride to work I never miss an episode of the Archers!

KnitterOfSocks · 11/03/2019 21:01

I wear bone conduction ones. I LOVE them. I can also make and receive calls through them so I now use them for work as well so I'm hands free during calls and can take notes more easily.

KnitterOfSocks · 11/03/2019 21:03

Mine are Aftershokz Trekz and I bought them for running, I did 27km last weekend and they stayed firmly put throughout

nonevernotever · 11/03/2019 21:05

I love yurbuds - only I ear headphones I find comfy and that stay in. And that aren't out of my price bracket

BikeRunSki · 11/03/2019 21:08

Also have funny shaped ears and tiny ear canals. Also ha e Aftershokz Treks. Fantastic things.

Ivegotthree · 11/03/2019 21:10

All of you with bone conducting ones, please can you tell me what make they are?

I can't wear in-ear ones and think maybe bone ones are the answer.

Thank you!

NCforthis2019 · 11/03/2019 21:11

so maybe you don't use them then?.......Confused

Oysterbabe · 11/03/2019 21:11

I hate them and have never once found a pair that stay in and don't hurt.

CMOTDibbler · 11/03/2019 21:15

I have Trekz titanium bone conducting headphones currently, and they are fantastic. Before that, the only in ear ones I could manage were Yurbuds

Hillarious · 11/03/2019 21:16

Aftershokz Treks Titanium.

CherryPavlova · 11/03/2019 21:18

I can’t stand in ear ones. My ears get too hot and itchy and they fall out. I use noise cancelling over ear ones so I can block out others activities when travelling by train or plane.

Ivegotthree · 11/03/2019 21:18

Thank you! Off to Amazon I go...

I run a lot and have never ever found any in-ear ones that stay put.

iklboo · 11/03/2019 21:40

Also the Aftershokz Treks Titanium.

BikeRunSki · 11/03/2019 21:44

My bone conducting headphones are Aftershokz @Ivegotthree

ApolloandDaphne · 11/03/2019 21:45

How do the bone conduction ones work? Do they leak sound?

Redcliff · 11/03/2019 22:03

I have these for running - really like them. www.johnlewis.com/sony-mdr-zx110ap-on-ear-headphones-with-mic-remote/black/p3491190

Ivegotthree · 11/03/2019 22:04

Thank you bikerunski much appreciated

londonrach · 11/03/2019 22:06

Yanbu. Never understood why people use them. In the 80s🐹90s my walkman had a headphone set.

woodhill · 11/03/2019 22:07

Don't stay in my ears

thenightsky · 11/03/2019 22:07

In-ear ones are hopeless. They just fall straight back out. Same with earplugs.

MrsTerryPratcett · 11/03/2019 22:08

How do the bone conducting ones stay put?

I'm loathe to spend yet more on headphones!
