So, you initiate a programme promoting a liberal view of LGBT issues in an area with a very large proportion of Muslims. And then your shocked when they protest. And you've probably spent years saying that multiculturalism was wonderful. The idiocy of the Liberal commentators on this is amazing.

You’re

wafflyversatile · 08/03/2019 09:16

So what has gone too far in your opinion OP?

Gone2far · 08/03/2019 09:24

I'm not saying anything has gone too far. But it's interesting seeing Liberals seeing their chickens coming home to roost.

OP posts:
MoanaMakeWay · 08/03/2019 09:41

Multiculturalism is wonderful. There are homophones in every religion and nationality.

MoanaMakeWay · 08/03/2019 09:43

Homophobes *

Unguent · 08/03/2019 09:44

There are homophones in every religion and nationality.

Grin Grin

So what do you suggest, OP? Patrolling the streets with a megaphone shouting 'Go back where you came from'?

MoanaMakeWay · 08/03/2019 09:45

Sorry, I'm a teacher and my autocorrect loves a bit of grammar 😁

Eliza9917 · 08/03/2019 10:22

Yabu op.

Eliza9917 · 08/03/2019 10:23

Sorry I meant yanbu op.

wafflyversatile · 08/03/2019 10:33

so why are you called gone2far? When you made up that name you must have been thinking of something.

Some people are homophobic. In this country we have rights written into law against homophobia and other bigotry but that doesn't stop people of all stripes having views that go against those rights.

It's not contradictory to say that muslims are british with all the rights that bestows including the right not to experience bigotry, and that gay people have rights including the right not to experience bigotry. Bigotry should be challenged whether it comes from white christian people or brown muslim people.

If being homophobic, or racist like you, doesn't make a white christian person less of a british citizen then neither does homophobia make a brown muslim person less of a british citizen.

breeze44 · 08/03/2019 10:37

Have you got a link OP?

ghostyslovesheets · 08/03/2019 10:38

They where joined by evangelical Christians in there protest -bigots exist everywhere nothing has come home to roost

ghostyslovesheets · 08/03/2019 10:39

Their protest ffs

breeze44 · 08/03/2019 11:05

Ok I found the story myself. It seems they are now planning to consult with parents. I hope there will be genuine openness from both sides. It’s better to be open from the beginning about what the differences and expectations are and get a concrete agreement in place, rather than doing what countries like France do ie allowing thousands to enter their country then pulling the rug out from under them just as they’re establishing their lives there. I don’t really understand the protests, as parents currently have the statutory right to withdraw their children from sex and relationships education so why didn’t they all just do that?

breeze44 · 08/03/2019 11:12

People saying that there are bigots in every group etc. - you’re really obscuring the issue. The vast majority of Muslims do have a different perspective on issues like homosexuality than mainstream British opinion. I won’t talk about transgender as this forum shows it is much more controversial. How is pretending otherwise going to benefit anyone?

ChariotsofFish · 08/03/2019 11:17

You know that’s not how we use the word liberals in the UK? You’ve been reading too much American alt-right propaganda about owning the libs.

wafflyversatile · 08/03/2019 11:17

So what if they do? What is your point?

MissionItsPossible · 08/03/2019 11:37

I understand what you’re saying OP.

breeze44 · 08/03/2019 11:47

@wafflyversatile was your question for me?

Gone2far · 08/03/2019 12:20

Would be interested to know in what way my post was homophobic. Just watching to see who Liberals appoint as the most oppressed - the largely Muslim communities or LGBT groups.

OP posts:
wafflyversatile · 08/03/2019 12:47

@breeze44 yes.

@gone2far, you still haven't told us why you chose your name.

Perhaps you should first explain what you mean when you say liberals.

I never called you homophobic. I called you racist, sorry not to be clear.

wafflyversatile · 08/03/2019 12:49

and why do you want whatever it is you mean by 'liberals' to apportion levels of oppression? Confused

Why don't you explain exactly how you view the situation, OP? The 'liberals' are clearly wrong, as is multiculturalism, according to you, but while you're happy to attack, you are curiously deficient in all solutions. What would be right course of action now, according to you?

BirthdayCakes · 08/03/2019 13:22

As others have pointed out, "liberals" is a strange word to use in a UK context..
