To be worried about these night sweats

SapphireBattersea · 13/02/2019 17:10

So for the last couple weeks, every couple of nights I keep waking with my legs hot and sweating! It’s not all of me, it’s just my legs. Usually my lower legs ie feet and calves but sometimes up to my thighs. It always coincides with really bad and vivid dreams, and I wake up in like a panic my heart racing. 😥

Google hasn’t reassured me. I can’t find anything for getting hot legs at night but searching for night sweats, comes up with perimenopause or lymphoma !! It can also be caused by other less serious things but because I’m a worrier I’m now stressing 😥😥

I’ve booked a GP appt but it’s not for 2 weeks. Has anyone had anything similar? Reassure me please 😩 in general my anxiety is off the scale atm by the way I am so stressed with stuff it’s unreal.
Also I’m 39 so peri menopause is a possibility I suppose but I’m not ready 😥(still rather that than lymphoma!!)

Do you have a mirena coil OP? I was getting awful night sweats all over and when I had it removed the night sweats stopped immediately

Aquamarine1029 · 13/02/2019 17:26

Sounds very much like peri-menopause to me.

LanaorAna2 · 13/02/2019 17:30

Are you anemic? Those are classic symptoms.

SapphireBattersea · 13/02/2019 17:43

As far as I am aware I am not anaemic. And don't have a Mirena coil. I used to have the copper one but had it removed a few months ago and have been on Microgynon since December.

Oh god aquamarine do you think so :(

It’s weird that it’s just your legs! Ime my night sweats are just my top half, they wake me up every time.

It might be worth getting checked by the GP just to give you peace of mind.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 13/02/2019 18:51

Sorry meant to say my night sweats are definitely the menopause. EPO have helped a lot.

Soyalatteforme · 13/02/2019 18:53

I’ve had exactly the same recently, but other day-time symptoms. Exhaustion, aching all over, brain fog and weird tingling sensations. I have had a virus though and so assumed the sweats were related to that. Going to see if they go in the next week or so, otherwise will check hormones at GP.

esk1mo · 13/02/2019 18:55

I don’t think thats a classic symptom of anemia. It does sound like perimenopause but could also be due to your sleeping conditions. My boyfriend sweats like crazy when he is asleep as he sleeps in a cool room underneath two duvets.!

N0tfinished · 13/02/2019 18:56

Peri menopause made me a sweating, heart pounding mess. I got insomnia (deep joy) and a general anxiety/ditheriness that was very unlike me.

Whatever it might be, sounds like you need a trip to GP to get your bloods checked.

mintbiscuit · 13/02/2019 18:59

I would explore the possibility it’s the birth control. That’s the only thing that’s changed and changes in hormones can indeed impact your body resulting in things like night sweats (and anxiety).

SapphireBattersea · 13/02/2019 19:00

Yes I will definitely go to the Gp

I have also bought some 100% cotton bedding today to see if that helps. As the bedding I normally use is the cheaper, more polyester end of the spectrum shall we say :D

My sweats are PTSD related, I have no recall of the dreams at all but wake up drenched.... the nights where I dream normally and remember them I don't sweat.

Given your waking in panic and are having vivid dreams I would say was more anxiety/sub conscious than peripausal....anything in life going on?? I am the same age btw and have been checked and prodded and poked.... physically I am fine.

combatbarbie · 13/02/2019 19:03

And just 're read your OP where your saying anxiety is high..... if I were to place a bet I'd say that is your cause x

This may help the understanding OP xx

LellyMcKelly · 13/02/2019 19:07

If it’s anxiety you could be running in your sleep and that could be making your legs all sweaty.

SeaToSki · 13/02/2019 19:09

Do you have a cough at all? Have you visited Southern Europe / Third World Countries in the last couple of years? Its very left field, but TB gives you crazy night sweats and it is rising in prevalence in thse areas of the world.

Pieceofpurplesky · 13/02/2019 19:16

Peri menopause for me - leg sweats most nights x

TremoloGreen · 13/02/2019 19:20

Night sweats can be something or nothing. Best to get yourself to the gp to rule out the something. Chances are it is hormonal and nothing to worry about. Since I went on anti anxiety meds I sweat buckets the day or two before my period.

Stinkytoe · 13/02/2019 19:24

My DH had night sweats, full on all over body sheet dreamching sweats.

The GP ran various investigations including for lymphoma. Everything came back clear and the night sweats stopped.

Sometimes it can be nothing/ maybe the stress of worrying about the nightsweats!

SapphireBattersea · 13/02/2019 20:29

I am crazy anxious it’s just ridiculous I’m panicked nearly all the time, heart pounding (sleep/bed used to be my only respite now it is a source of worry and anxiety 😩)

Oh my, I had this last night for the first time! It was bizarre - I thought we’d fallen asleep with the electric under blanket on and wandered around bumping into things in the dark until I realised it was just my legs that felt like they were burning. Combine this with me being 46 and having periods from hell every two weeks, I assuming this is the
Start of the menopause. Tbh just want to get that over with and I had a recent chat with a very laid back nurse who told me, ‘don’t worry. All sorts of weird shit will happen...and then eventually things will calm down.’ I liked her. May go back for another chat. Hope things calm down for you too, op.

fatpatsthong · 13/02/2019 20:52

I have had them when my anxiety is high.

I often have them the 2 days before my period (always have to be fair, not age related).

I have them because I get too hot - I get really really cold so layer up the bed with duvets, blankets and stuff then warm up when asleep.

Go and get it checked but a fair few simple reasons.

Ambellina79 · 13/02/2019 21:09

Another possibility could be an overactive thyroid. Anxiety and sweating (including night sweats) are common symptoms of hyperthyroidism. The pounding heart would fit in too as an overactive thyroid can increase your heart rate. Might be worth asking the GP to do some blood tests to check your thyroid is behaving.

Might not be this at all but couldn't hurt to get it checked out.

Onceuponatime21 · 13/02/2019 21:10

I had night sweats from eating too much cheese before bed !
