To wonder why everything has to be a 'journey'

I've lost weight, I've been on a journey.
I'm training for a big run, I'm at the start of my journey.
I've been very ill, my journey to recovery is happening.

Oh bog off with your journey!

I've lost weight, I've been very poorly and recovered. I'm training for a marathon right now.

The only journey I've been on is when I've travelled otherwise, all of the above just happened.

Why oh why does everything have to involve going on a 'journey' nowadays?

It sounds like it's a rollercoaster of emotions for you.

SnuggyBuggy · 12/02/2019 18:57

You've obviously battled many demons

MrsArabin · 12/02/2019 19:08

Have you been to hell and back, OP?

QueenJulian · 12/02/2019 19:09

Still, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger

ZigZagZombie · 12/02/2019 19:10

Why are you posting here and not singing your heart out on X-Factor?

ForalltheSaints · 12/02/2019 19:10

Overused word, even used by Tony Blair for his memoirs. A bit like things being super or amazing.

spugzbunny · 12/02/2019 19:11

Gets right on my tits!

Breastfeeding journey. Baby led weaning journey. I even saw Frugi (baby clothes) journey the other day!

AnoukSpirit · 12/02/2019 19:11

Cos people want to feel their lives are meaningful?

EssentialHummus · 12/02/2019 19:12

People like narrative innit.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 12/02/2019 19:12

Who cares how anyone describes anything? I mean, how does it actually affect you personally? You sound very miserable to me.

ErictheGuineaPig · 12/02/2019 19:14

I'm guessing for the same reason everything we do with our kids is now 'making memories'. It makes stuff sound more significant than it is.

Pomello · 12/02/2019 19:14

Cos it is. Unless you can click your fingers and click your heels.

I wanna go home. I wanna go home. {clutches toto}

TeeJay1970 · 12/02/2019 19:21

Stupid wanky expression used by stupid wanky people.

People say it to make themselves sound deep and profound; it actually makes them sound like a twat.

Hilda40 · 12/02/2019 19:25

Battling cancer. No you're I'll.

GreenDinosaur · 12/02/2019 19:25

There's a woman at playgroup who I privately refer to as "Pretentious Woman" who likes to regale others with her "breastfeeding journey", I try so hard not to roll my eyes too obviously.

(I bf too btw so not an issue in itself)

SwimmingKaren · 12/02/2019 19:27

This and “exploring”. You’re not exploring mate. It’s a public footpath through your local park.

iklboo · 12/02/2019 19:28

JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRRRRRRRRRLLLLLL

KC225 · 12/02/2019 19:29

And after the journey ....... They are so proud of THEMSELVES. I was always led to believe you were proud of someone else.

MrsMoastyToasty · 12/02/2019 19:29

Who "shops the edit" ? I go shopping, buy a couple of things and go home.

clairemcnam · 12/02/2019 19:30

People seem to talk up so many things these days.

SpringForEver · 12/02/2019 19:30

It goes with 'reaching out'.

ashtrayheart · 12/02/2019 19:32

Baby steps though

Deadbudgie · 12/02/2019 19:32

At least you’re not having a fucking adventure and sharing life’s adventure with your soul mate. Facebook and Instagram have a lot to answer for

DanielRicciardosSmile · 12/02/2019 19:33

@iklboo beat me to it!

Charley50 · 12/02/2019 19:55

Me too. I hate journeys, I hate stories, I have being my best self, and I hate making fucking memories. This is probably why I'm on mumsnet and not Facebook or instagram.
