To think 40a is still bra size?

I've recently lost 4 stone. Still fairly solid and chunky but I've never had huge boobs even when breastfeeding, never went above a C cup! I do have a massive ribcage though. Went to M&S to get measured for a new bra. I'm a 40A!! I didn't even think that was a real size! I'm fat with teeny tits! Who knew!

I meant to say 'silly' bra size!

Bet you’re not. M and s typically very poor at measuring bra size. Try the boob or bust facebook group... you’ll probably find you have a bigger cup size and a smaller back size.

MRex · 15/01/2019 19:51

Try being measured in a bravissimo instead, I don't find the M&S sizing works for me.

messyhousetidymind · 15/01/2019 19:51

Yes but the A in a 40A is bigger than the cup in a 32A for example.

Its probably pretty easy to find a 38b

Bra sizing is weird these days varies so much between manufacturers there's no telling until you try them on.

Haworthia · 15/01/2019 19:53

Try this: thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.com/p/fitting-advice.html?m=1

I have very unimpressive boobs but nevertheless went from a 32C to a 30E (actually, when I tried a couple of 30E bras they were no good - 30DD was better).

Then I ditched bras for stretchy crop tops - better still Grin

dementedpixie · 15/01/2019 19:55

I bet you need a smaller back size and bigger cup size. Do you have a measuring tape and you can get a better idea of size?

thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.com/p/fitting-advice.html?m=1. I have a 36 back at size 20/22 so unless you're bigger than that I doubt you need 40 back

TrashPanda · 15/01/2019 19:55

Very unlikely that size is accurate if measured at M&S. Definitely measure yourself using the link from PP and someone will be able to give sizes to try.

dementedpixie · 15/01/2019 19:56

And an A cup means only 1 inch difference between under and over bust measurements which I think is unlikely

MRex · 15/01/2019 19:58

And well done losing 4 stone by the way, that's great!

Pinkkahori · 15/01/2019 20:00

I wear a 36FF. After I had Dd2 I went to debenhams to get measured for feeding bras. The woman who measured me told me I was a 44B and helpfully added that bras in that size didn't exist!
I looked around the shop and got a few around my usual size and found ones to fit.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/01/2019 20:03

Places bets on OP not being a 40A at all.

Tape measure please OP, M&S bra fitting is bollocks

bonzo77 · 15/01/2019 20:04

M&S add 4 to the back. Or 5 if it was an odd number. Go to Bravissimo. Or the boob or bust FB page. I bet you’re a 36d/dd or 34 DD/E or so. M&S would like me to wear a 34D. I don’t. I wear 30E and would probably be better in a 28F.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/01/2019 20:04

Based on how we know M&S measure, I'm going to take a guess that you measure 35/36 underbust and 41 over, and so are probably more in the region of a 36DD/E.

Dhalandchips · 15/01/2019 20:05

I tried a 38 and it was uncomfortably tight
The 40a I bought is comfortable... I will try another shop though for comparison. I tried measuring myself using the voob or bust method but when I put my measurements into the website, it said I needed to contact them!

SouthernComforts · 15/01/2019 20:05

Do you have a tape measure? 40A is 40 inch underbust and 41 inch across the boob isn't it? Seems unlikely tbh. Mine disappear completely lying down and I'm not an A cup

KatharinaRosalie · 15/01/2019 20:06

It is silly and very unlikely, as it was measured by M&S and they're hopeless. I would also guess you need rather a 36 back and way bigger cup than A

Dhalandchips · 15/01/2019 20:07

This is really interesting, thank you for all your input...how can teeny boobs be a big cup though? DD/E?

OP posts:
KatharinaRosalie · 15/01/2019 20:07

what cup in 38 did you try?

SandunesAndRainclouds · 15/01/2019 20:07

M&S = 34B

Bravissimo = 30D

Soooooo many women in the wrong bras courtesy of M&S!

dementedpixie · 15/01/2019 20:08

What cup was on the 38? If the cup is too small it will feel tight. Needs a bigger cup not back size. What's your under/ over bust measurements

Dhalandchips · 15/01/2019 20:08

Katharina 38c. Lots of space in the cup, very tight around the back

OP posts:
Dhalandchips · 15/01/2019 20:08

I've been wearing a 40 c, I can fit my fist in the c cup

If you can possibly get yourself to R&P, do it

dementedpixie · 15/01/2019 20:09

Also depends on the style and shape of the bra.

Dhalandchips · 15/01/2019 20:10

I'll have to get a (new- no idea where it is !) tape measure and try again. But I'll go to bravissimo too, or is it only an online store?
