To ask when you decorated the nursery?

Trying to hold off until as late in pregnancy as possible, but also desperate to start planning/buying/decorating Blush

OP posts:
WhirlieGigg · 13/01/2019 10:39

We didn’t get it done until the baby was six months old. I was too big and exhausted to decorate and DH was too busy. If you want to decorate before the baby arrives, do it early, before you turn into a beached whale that can’t move.

EssentialHummus · 13/01/2019 10:41

DD is 17 months and we’ve still not done it Grin.

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 13/01/2019 10:41

It was the spare room so already decorated, we took the bed out and moved cot in at six months, job done.

user1493413286 · 13/01/2019 10:42

We didn’t until DD moved in there at 6 months as we needed to keep it as a spare room

Shelley54 · 13/01/2019 10:43

DS1 was 6months old. We didn’t need it until then.

comebacksoonsusan · 13/01/2019 10:44

When they were 4.

CandyCaneLane0 · 13/01/2019 10:45

Not until ds was 6 months old, he slept in our room until then so didn't see the point of decorating his room before then

HeyThoughIWalk · 13/01/2019 10:47

DC1 - left it till near the end, he was premature, and when I arrived home from hospital it was done

DC2 - about 15 years ago (she's 2). We had good intentions of decorating it for her, but never got round to it.

toomuchtooold · 13/01/2019 10:48

How far along are you?

If you don't want to sort of tempt fate, my recommendation would be to get all the other bits and pieces done that need done in the house. DIY jobs, boiler serviced, any big bits of furniture you were going to get or replace - get it all so it's comfortable before the baby comes. If you can arrange your house so that there is somewhere quiet for everyone to sleep (including a spare room if you have it - you may want sometimes for either you or DH to go in and put in earplugs and get a full night's sleep while the other deals with the baby) and to have things nicely set up if the baby isn't sleeping e.g. if you're up feeding a lot, would you want to be in the living room with the baby in a bassinet, or do you need a lamp and a TV or whatever in the baby's room? I would also if I were you look into blackout curtains for the baby's room - makes no odds in the first few months but after that, some of them sleep better in the pitch black. We got material from easyblindsonline.co.uk, it was very good and easy to hang.

TurquoiseWeekend · 13/01/2019 10:50

I'm almost 34 weeks and we're just putting the finishing touches to it today. Should be done by this evening.
I'm so exhausted, the thought of doing it any later makes me tired just thinking about it. And I didn't want to have to think about doing it once baby is here.

AllMYSmellySocks · 13/01/2019 10:50

Just do it whenever you fancy (probably after the 20 week scan though). It's the kind of thing that really doesn't need doing but you do to keep yourself occupied while waiting for a first baby,or if you happen to enjoy decorating.

Nothisispatrick · 13/01/2019 10:52

Have a three month old and haven’t done it. I’m not sure what the purpose is when they stay with you at night until 6 months?

E20mom · 13/01/2019 10:54

We haven't yet as the baby's still sleeping in our room.. she's 18 months old!

When she does go in there I'll decorate it very differently than I would have done if I'd done it before she was born, as she's very definitely into some things that mean I'll decorate it with a certain theme.

gimmeadoughnut123 · 13/01/2019 10:56

I'm 18 weeks pregnant and hubs has started shifting furniture from it/painting it so we can get it done in the next few months. I don't want to do it later on in pregnancy than that as I'm already struggling with SPD, and I certainly don't want to do it when baby is small.

Celebelly · 13/01/2019 10:57

I'm 36 weeks and we've more or less done ours for now. Not because she's going to be in it as she'll be in with us for first six months at least, but more because I don't think we'll ever have this much free time again Grin

We don't have a cot or anything in there as we will just buy that when it's needed, so it's really just a chest of drawers with her clothes and other bits in, the day bed, prints and canvases on wall and shelves with books and toys.

grinchypants · 13/01/2019 10:57

Dc1 when I was about 22 weeks
Dc2 was 4 weeks old
Dc3 I'm 30 weeks now and have no intention of doing anything for a good 6 months as they will be in our room for that time anyway so seems pointless.

emwithme · 13/01/2019 11:18

We bought child-friendly blinds/lampshade when we decorated the room on first buying the house, nearly 3 years before DD arrived. It has neutral walls and carpet (as does the rest of the house).

When she was 10 days old, DH and FIL took the junk that had accumulated in there to the tip and built the clothes storage.

The rest of it will happen when she's ready to go in the room, she's only 6 weeks old at the moment so is in with me.

bourbonbiccy · 13/01/2019 11:34

I just finished ours at 36wks pregnant, I physically couldn't have carried on much later and we wanted it all done while we didn't have DS to look after as well and paint fumes everywhere ( OTT with the whole fumes thought I know )
I know some think it's bad luck, but I had cot bed built, wardrobes in, changing station built, feeding chair ready and blinds up. I didn't obviously have any bedding on as he wouldn't be in there for 6 months (or so we thought ....more like 8 months lol )

happyasasandboy · 13/01/2019 11:36

When my twins were 3 years old and moved in to their own room.

DS2 didn't get a nursery; he was in with me until 2.5yrs and then went in with his brother.

HarrietM87 · 13/01/2019 11:41

Thinking about doing it now he’s 9 months. He’s still in with us. No need before.

kaytee87 · 13/01/2019 11:52

I painted it at about 6 months then DH and I built the furniture and put up wall stickers at about 7 months. Ds didn't go in til he was 6 months old but it was part of nesting for me.

LL83 · 13/01/2019 11:56

Dc 1 very excited had everything done by 6 months pregnant. Handy place to store stuff but didn't use it really for a while.

Dc2 we were waiting for house to be built and in a temporary house so had a miss a basket and a bedside drawer. This was fine for first 3 months.

Do what works for you.

pinkiepie1 · 13/01/2019 11:57

My eldest dd was 2.5yrs when her room was sorted.
Youngest dd is 20 months and she's had her room since November.

TheBigBangRocks · 13/01/2019 11:58

We painted it before arrival but only added everything in once home safe. Felt wrong to do it before then.

Andcake · 13/01/2019 11:59

Painted room at 6mo pregnant but in reality baby slept with us until 14 mo old and ds spent more nights in there on floor trying to get some sleep !!!
