To ask for tattoo ideas?

I know they're not for everyone but only looking for suggestions!

I like small tattoos - and I'm quite liking the idea of a tattoo of one word or a small phrase. Something meaningful and powerful.

So far I'm liking...
'Breathe'
'Patience'
'Your time is limited'

Not sure of other ideas? Just something short that's quite powerful...

I have a voucher that's expiring soon so I'm desperate for ideas 😂

Don’t understand why you want to deliberately disfigure yiur body

BiggFactHunt · 27/12/2018 13:27

Have you looked on Pinterest? I got loads of inspiration for font and placement when I was contemplating my last tattoos.

sparkiess · 27/12/2018 13:28

@BiggFactHunt oh my gosh I didn't even think of Pinterest! I'll download that now! I've heard other people saying it's good for ideas!

You see, to me, those are cliched rather than powerful. Do you have a favourite quotation that is meanigful to you specifically rather than something so generic?

BiggFactHunt · 27/12/2018 13:28

Sorry I meant ‘when I was contemplating deliberately disfiguring my body’ Grin

sparkiess · 27/12/2018 13:29

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross that was the exact word I thought of to why none of those are the one. All my favourite quotes are long, definitely too long to be tattoos!

You need something that's meaningful to you OP, not something that everyone on here finds meaningful. Discuss any ideas you have with whichever tattoo artist you'll be using and they'll help find the things that suit you most.

FissionChips · 27/12/2018 13:30

Get “NAN” tattooed on your neck, or your children’s date of birth.

YoungLennyGodber · 27/12/2018 13:32

How can you want a tattoo but not even know what you want one of? It should be meaningful to you, not any random person on the internet Confused

TooManyPaws · 27/12/2018 13:33

You'll only get the kneejerk reaction from the pursed lipped mob here. Come and ask in the tattoo section where we're all on board with tattoos and can talk without insulting you.

MikeUniformMike · 27/12/2018 13:34

How about Do Not Resuscitate?
Or your kids' names and DOBs to save you from having to remember them.

zeebeedee · 27/12/2018 13:36

No judgement at all for having a tattoo, but most people have a design or word or whatever they like and then have it made into a tattoo - not the other way round.

DS1 carried the image around for a year before getting it tattooed

sparkiess · 27/12/2018 13:36

@TooManyPaws didn't even realise there was a tattoo section but thank you!

Tattoos should be personal, yes, but I'm literally only looking for inspiration for words/short phrases that might inspire me... same as I'd find on internet, day to day life, books..

Suziepoozie · 27/12/2018 13:38

I think if you need to ask for something you shouldn’t get it. Word tattoos are kind of weird and I think cliche and age badly. What about a line drawing or something small but well drawn? I’m a big fan of bare trees

LittleBot178 · 27/12/2018 13:43

You could look in the dictionary...

StarJazmin · 27/12/2018 13:46

‘Your time is limited’ sounds pretty ominous, like a threat!

‘Breathe’ etc - meh, cliché, are you going to forget? Grin

I have tattoos, I like tattoos (although not personally keen on writing/quotations), but a voucher expiring wouldn’t spur me to get new one if I hadn’t settled on something specific that had meaning for me.

Take your time, feel as certain as you can, it’s going to be with you a long time, don’t be rushed into it by an expiring voucher.

Reaa · 27/12/2018 13:48

Have a look at short Latin phrases and find something that suits who you are as person

SaucyJack · 27/12/2018 13:51

Get “cheese” tattooed on your wrist.

Everyone likes cheese.

Reaa · 27/12/2018 13:52

longissimus dies cito conditur

luceo non uro

lux et veritas

Mari50 · 27/12/2018 13:53

If you have to ask a bunch of strangers on the internet for tattoo ideas then you definitely need to rethink your priorities. No fucking way would I take any inspiration from people I don’t know for a permanent inking on my body. I once won a voucher for Botox- like that was ever going to be a good use of my time.....

Confusedbeetle · 27/12/2018 13:54

Just don't

WorraLiberty · 27/12/2018 13:54

Get “cheese” tattooed on your wrist.

Still wouldn't be more cheesy than the words the OP was considering Grin

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 27/12/2018 13:54

"What would Buffy do?"

olderthanyouthink · 27/12/2018 13:55

"NAN" made me think of "NaN" which means not a number when programming... that could be meaningful Confused

Or you could have a photo you love turned into a tattoo

To ask for tattoo ideas?
WeCameToDance · 27/12/2018 13:56

I love tattoos but honestly these are all cliched and very overdone. Any tattooist worth his salt will be inwardly rolling his/her eyes at any of these.
Theres no rush. Wait for a design you really want and that you dont feel you need to ask strangers over the internet advice over. Going in and getting something for the sake of it is going to end up being regretful.
