To ask for tattoo ideas?

I know they're not for everyone but only looking for suggestions!

I like small tattoos - and I'm quite liking the idea of a tattoo of one word or a small phrase. Something meaningful and powerful.

So far I'm liking...
'Breathe'
'Patience'
'Your time is limited'

Not sure of other ideas? Just something short that's quite powerful...

I have a voucher that's expiring soon so I'm desperate for ideas 😂

I think you can get a tattoo just because you like it and it doesn't have to have a deeper meaning attached. As long as you like looking at it and know you won't get sick of it you're good. GrinI used to find inspiration on Instagram when I was still on it. If you look at hashtags like scripttattoo etc you'll find plenty. Good luck!

AnneTwackie · 27/12/2018 13:59

get one saying ‘I got this tattoo because a voucher was about to expire’

KC225 · 27/12/2018 13:59

NOOOOOOO DON'T DO IT.

If you don't have a yearning to remember you children's date of birth or names. Or by bypass a football shirt and permanently pledge your fandom by ink. If you can't think of a scrawling, doodle or piece of bad graffiti .......perhaps it's a sign.

FissionChips · 27/12/2018 13:59

Get YABU tattooed on your knuckles.

^Id probably pay someone to do that.

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/12/2018 14:00

I have many tattoos, they all have meaning to me, and honestly you can’t just go looking for inspiration, if it’s the right thing it’ll come to you.

Short inspirational word type ones have been done to death and are now just quite cliche. If that’s what you like fine, but why not look for something a bit more individual or interesting, or that has a particular meaning to you personally.

MummySharkBabyShark · 27/12/2018 14:02

Everything.

Andallwaswell · 27/12/2018 14:05

Like others have said it is really difficult to recommend a tattoo to anyone because they are so personal to each person. I chose a symbol from a Disney movie that not many people would recognise and if people ask what it is I tell them and get an eye roll. To me though I got the tattoo when I had broken free from a relationship and fought fears of living alone, I watched the movie with my friend who was struggling with anxiety and we both got it so we could remember happy times. It’s an empowering and happy phrase so means so much more to me than anyone else but to everyone else it’s just nonsense! Go with what you want rather than what people tell you you want!

"Get a tattoo of the voucher, that way you'll always remember it" - DP

FissionChips or IWBU?

OhTheRoses · 27/12/2018 14:17

Your phrases are on a par with "Love" and "Laughter" in the house. So perhaps don't.

Don't underestimate the permanence and potential regret.

JacquesHammer · 27/12/2018 14:19

I think asking for ideas is never a good idea. Tattoos really need to be well thought through!

I quite like quote tattoos. I have one, it’s very unusual and means something to me. Do you have anything you could use?

peachypetite · 27/12/2018 14:22

It's odd that you're asking others. It should be personal and meaningful to you. This comes across more like you're looking for one for the sake of it.

OrdinarySnowflake · 27/12/2018 14:23

Don't get a tattoo because you have a voucher. They aren't that expensive in the grand scheme of things.

Stop and wait for something/some idea to hit you that you want. It might be in a week, it might be in 3 years, it might never happen.

I saw this thread with 38 posts on, and made myself a bet there would be some sneery comment within the first 10 posts.

I am getting quite drawn to some beautiful watercolour style tattoos - I've seen some lovely examples with scenes of flying birds that just feel dreamy to me, and fit my mindset about how I feel now and where I want my future to go.

Although I agree with pp, you can't and shouldn't just pick off a list. Try letting your subconscious dwell on big questions - what is important to you? What will your last deathbed thought be? What word/phrase gives you hope or positivity or joy or comfort?

sparkiess · 27/12/2018 14:35

This has opened my mind a bit especially yours @ShotsFired . I guess I'm feeling a bit of mindblock and not sure how to open my mind up to meaningful ideas.

I have lots of very large, colourful tattoos. Both legs are covered, my chest is tattooed, my arms are heavily tattooed, etc.

So no judgement for wanting one, but your ideas are terrible. Really cheesy and a total cliche. If you don’t know what you want, don’t put it on your body until the end of time.

WhatWouldChristineCagneyDo · 27/12/2018 14:42

If you need to ask other people for tattoo ideas then you are not ready to get a tattoo. It is for life. I used to be a flash artist (aka a tattoo designer), I still don't have one myself because I am far too fickle. Know thyself.

strawberrypenguin · 27/12/2018 15:08

'When it's dark look for stars' maybe with a small star by it. Or is this too long for what you wanted?

A small picture of your favourite animal?

'Magic' with a magic swirl next to it

'Once upon a time'

Could you call in for a chat with the artist and talk through some ideas with them?
