When making a booking; such as a table at a restaurant; a taxi or even ordering a takeaway I always use my surname.

I’ve noticed that more and more people around me are using their first names for things like this.

I went out for dinner not too long ago with some friends and out the table under my surname as I normally would. One friend said I was being snobby; and the other jumped in to say she didn’t think I was being snobby; just old fashioned!

Am I?

Made up name - normally a cartoon character.

lastqueenofscotland · 26/12/2018 13:27

First name

Stephisaur · 26/12/2018 13:27

Surname for bookings.

First name for coffee shops ;)

Table for Steph doesn’t sound right somehow. Surname feels more inclusive (particularly if eating with family)

Tigger365 · 26/12/2018 13:30

Depends on what. Takeaway is my full name because I order from just eat. Anything else depends on the person I’m speaking to. I have to spell both my names, so it depends if I think they’ll pay attention long enough

isseywithcats · 26/12/2018 13:31

depends holidays/ gigs, weekends away , in my OHs full name as its his credit card that the payments will be coming from
table in a restaurant either my full name or his
table at tgis where i work just my first name as thats who they know me as

ScreamingBadSanta · 26/12/2018 13:31

Surname for tables. First name for taxis.

WildFlower2018 · 26/12/2018 13:31

DH always uses his full none for taxis, tables etc.

I tend to use whatever comes out my head first! First or second depending on the situation

Arpafeelie · 26/12/2018 13:31

Surname. The only time I use my first name is in Starbucks.

WildFlower2018 · 26/12/2018 13:31

Name not none

DappledThings · 26/12/2018 13:35

Surname. And no name in coffee shops, I hate it.

newyorkdoll3 · 26/12/2018 13:36

Surname. Would never use my first name.

Sausagefingers9 · 26/12/2018 13:37

My surname is a name so I prefer to use my maiden name or first name.

FestiveNut · 26/12/2018 13:41

Surname

DisplayPurposesOnly · 26/12/2018 13:47

"Bond. James Bond."

Substitute my actual name, obviously.

If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me Wink I don't care if the person taking the booking writes down James or Bond.

PavlovianLunge · 26/12/2018 13:52

For telephone bookings, DP’s surname, because mine is a bugger to spell.

‘Bob’ in Starbucks.

TheLazyDuchess · 26/12/2018 13:53

I'm 26 and Always use my Surname

SuperstarDJ · 26/12/2018 13:56

Surname.

I use first name for Starbucks but always use a fake one as I can’t be arsed repeating and then spelling my real first name.

BumDisease · 26/12/2018 14:00

Usually surname! I have a very common first name.

Bumblebee39 · 26/12/2018 14:00

Surname for bookings

First name in coffee shops

TheLazyDuchess · 26/12/2018 14:00

In starbucks I give my nickname,(diminutive of my first name I've been known as for years, use for social media etc). Would feel strange using it to book a taxi etc, but I've noticed more people doing this too now. In work they call me by my full first name, still feels weird (a few colleagues call me the diminutuve now though, which is nice). Most of our bookings are under full first and last name, or last name.

Moonstoned · 26/12/2018 14:00

Surname.

mummyhaschangedhername · 26/12/2018 14:01

Hmmmm made up name usually, typically my maiden name. My married name is hard to spell, so I would occasionally use first name too.
