Its too late to put up the whole lot, as the effort it will take isnt worth ut for them being up such a short while. so will do a few (for the kids to enjoy). If it were just me I'd not bother tho.
Anyone else not got theirs up yet?

I used to wait until the end of term to do mine but DS said how much he liked them bein up earlier so the house felt Christmassy for longer, so I put them up mid-December now. It's not a massive effort and it makes him happy!

How old are your DC? Can they help?

letsdolunch321 · 23/12/2018 11:45

Me 👋🏼

There is me & dp at home - no little ones - have been too busy what with working full time, socialising and home life not got around to putting tree up.

Am still in the spirit of Christmas, can’t be done faffing with the tree/dec’s at this late time.

4 & 3, so they're virtually no help at all. 10 yr old not much more help tbh

I have this year, but most years it's not unusual for me just to be putting them up today.

PinkBuffalo · 23/12/2018 13:31

I'm not doing decs this year. I've literally just had to move having lost my dad and been working 11 hrs a day this week, I've barely unpacked let alone Xmas decs!
My heads not in it either. I've brought the tree with me, but it's staying in its box in the spare room this year.
Probably if I had kids I would make the effort like you are though Smile

FeatherStrong · 23/12/2018 13:51

@PinkBuffalo sorry for your loss, hope your keeping ok.

Yea I'm the same, head and hearts not in it. Just exhausted by life atm

I'm staying at my mum's at the moment, no decs here, no kids and none of us really feel the need.

Lovingbenidorm · 23/12/2018 13:59

Get that tree up now!!
Your poor dc!😢
When we moved in to our present house it was a week before Christmas.
First thing I did was put the tree up!

GreenEggsHamandChips · 23/12/2018 14:03

Sometimes its tinsel and lights everywhere, sometimes its reallly mostly just the tree.

Get the tree up. Dont worry too much about the rest

Raven88 · 23/12/2018 14:04

I don't have any decorations this year because my cat gets into everything and a tree would be ruined. Next year I'm going to make a wooden tree that doubles as a cat tree.

BiglyBadgers · 23/12/2018 14:06

When I was a kid we put them up Christmas Eve and then took them down on twelfth night. I put them up earlier for dd but it still feels a bit weird about it.

KingsScorn · 23/12/2018 14:10

I've had a garland with lights on my mantelpiece since the end of November but I've yet to do much else! DS has a small tree up in his bedroom but he refused all decorations and lights on it other than one small dog ornament.

We bought the tree yesterday but it only made it's way into the house this morning. It is still naked. I haven't put up the wreath on the front door yet either or put up any other decorations (other than the mantelpiece)...I suppose I could make a start now...

MrsChollySawcutt · 23/12/2018 14:22

We never do ours until just before - tree will be bought today and decorated by us all tomorrow evening before we go up to bed.

Just started making our paper decorations last night. Long standing family tradition.

KateAdiesEarrings · 23/12/2018 14:26

We only put our's up a few days ago. Since summer, we've had a bereavement and moved house. We're all running on empty this year.

ErictheGuineaPig · 23/12/2018 14:29

I can't believe your kids - or at least your 10 year old - aren't nagging you! But if they're not bothered then I can see why you wouldn't be. I can't really be doing with Christmas this year but the kids have been going on about it since August so I've had to fake excitement and crack on.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 23/12/2018 14:36

I've got a grinch jumper because this year we aren't putting up a tree. We have a new dog and his crate is in the corner where the tree goes. Dd is happy with it. I did go to the attic and bring down a box so we have tinselon the bannisters and a stocking by the fire. Cards are all upon the mantel and shelves. That is enough for me this year! It's refreshing motto be thinking I've got to spend half a day going around room by room taking stuff down when Denis back at school!

Lydiaatthebarre · 23/12/2018 15:08

It used to be quite traditional to put the tree up on Christmas Eve. I usually put the decorations up around mid December, but better late Dec than early November as some people have started doing.

Andromeida59 · 23/12/2018 15:20

We're putting ours up today. We typically put it up the weekend before Christmas plus bonus half price tree Grin. There's only DP and I, no DCs yet but for me it's not just for the children!

FeatherStrong · 23/12/2018 16:38

Lol past two weeks they've done...Carol Service, nativity play, movie and activities at school, santa visit, cinema trip with close family, german christmas market. Hardly 'poor kids' ;) ;) but I do need to get some decs up...might do it while they're asleep, so it's a xmas eve suprise to wake up to.

Op they must be knackered!
That’s a nice idea to surprise them, it will make Christmas Eve even more exciting!

KatyMac · 23/12/2018 16:44

The tree is outside and neither DD(21) nor DH want to help

I am not doing it by myself, I don't like decorations much anyway and I'm too sore to be upping and downing

So, not bothering

YoThePussy · 23/12/2018 16:46

I have two very naughty cats who live for wrecking. I have a very small tree with three baubles on and some lights. Decorations are torn down and ‘killed’ as fast as I put them up. The front door wreath is intact as they can’t get at it.

JennyBlueWren · 23/12/2018 16:52

We started putting up decorations yesterday (the tree and started making paper chains). I'm a teacher and use my decorations in my classroom and then bring them home to put up rather than having two sets. However I won't take them down until 6th January so do get the use out of them.
DS is 3 and he was very excited about putting up the tree but hadn't asked about it earlier.
I find if I put the decorations up too soon they become too normal and lots of people seem to think they should come down on Boxing Day -which to me is just the 2nd day of the 12!
