AIBU to not use this personal trainer?

I belong to a gym but as from January I plan to use a PT. just to get me into a decent routine and show me the best form for weights etc. The Personal Trainer I had in mind does some classes at my gym and also has her own PT company which I've followed on FB for 6 months

She's so lovely! Just what I'm looking for, calm and patient and I like her sensible advice from following her FB page. So I was all poised to drop her a line in the next week or so

Until last week that is! she posted a photo she'd taken by stealth. It was a man having a coffee in our local Starbucks. He was huge, a really big man and his stomach was resting on the table in front of him. She'd cropped his face out but captioned it ' just resting his tummy Shock'

Of course she well and truly had her arse handed to her - people commenting were less than impressed that's for sure. And unfortunately for her she posted the photo and then didn't check back in for 7 hours so she probably got quite a shock when she did.

She apologised, said she hadn't meant any malice by it and deleted it

So... would you pay this woman to help you lose weight and tone up? Or would you steer clear as you would feel judged by her for being unfit and out of shape?

I'd stear clear.

She thinks sneering at people is OK, I'd be worried that I'd end up as an 'hilarious' story.

Athena51 · 22/12/2018 18:10

That's hugely judgemental and unprofessional. I wouldn't touch someone who had views like that about the people they're supposed to help with a barge pole.

Lovewinemorethanhusband · 22/12/2018 18:11

I wouldn't touch her with a bargepole obviously the nice is an act and actually has a mean streak in her.

BatCakes · 22/12/2018 18:11

I know I know. I was pretty shocked that A she'd been so stupid from a business point of view and B is that how she sees her clients?

E20mom · 22/12/2018 18:13

I wouldn't give her money. She's a bully

namechangedforanon · 22/12/2018 18:15

Steer clear . What poor judgement .

BatCakes · 22/12/2018 18:16

She also posted ' I have removed his face to protect his identity ' like that made it better. Poor bloke was just out having a coffee or whatever.

I've just gone to check her fb page and it's vanished altogether so she's clearly either taking some time out or is just totally mortified. So many people know her and were shocked

Bloody annoying as I thought she'd be perfect for me

TidyDancer · 22/12/2018 18:18

I wouldn't use her and I'd be telling her why not either. I hope she loses clients over this, it will be the only way she learns a lesson.

brick10 · 22/12/2018 18:21

She’s shown her true colours - find someone else. This wouldn’t be the first time she’s been judgemental and just plain rude, just been caught out this time.

Waddsup12 · 22/12/2018 18:25

This is a well common attitude. I'm fat & have PT qualifications. I got so fed up with the comments in the PT FB groups I left. Plus it put me off actually training people...

Well done on taking a stand. Good PT is really helpful but they must understand the difficulties, not be judgemental pricks.

Kittykat93 · 22/12/2018 18:26

She's a horrible person. Don't even think about giving her your business!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 22/12/2018 18:28

She clearly despises people who are overweight. We might be judgmental about people who are fat and dont exercise or eat well, but we keep that to ourselves and certainly don’t post it on social media.

If gym instructors and personal trainers were like her, they’d soon be out of business- as she will probably be.

Owletty · 22/12/2018 18:29

Wow, no way would I use her. How horrible.

Elefant1 · 22/12/2018 18:32

If she seems good at her job I would use her, she made an error it doesn't make her a bad PT.

Redcrayonisthebest · 22/12/2018 18:35

No I wouldn't use her, sounds like she despises large people. Personally I wouldn't feel I could trust her and would wonder if she was taking stealth photos of me.
Terrible business move for her.

RainbowBriteRules · 22/12/2018 18:38

She made a mistake and probably will lose loads of money over this. This could trash her career over one moment of poor judgement. I’d still use her, I’d assume she will have learned her lesson and it wouldn’t stop her getting results.

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 22/12/2018 18:42

She must have been “resting” her brain when she posted that. No, I wouldn’t go with her, I’d be wondering if she was thinking the same about me and posting stuff behind my back.

CryptoFascist · 22/12/2018 18:43

She's an idiot for that, look what happened to this man for the same thing:

ALongHardWinter · 22/12/2018 18:56

No way would I use someone who'd done this! I would be inclined to tell her why too.

brighteyeowl17 · 22/12/2018 19:25

Unprofessional!!! Don’t use her.

RedPanda2 · 22/12/2018 19:27

That's so gross of her. This is why I'm so apprehensive about havong a PT

John4703 · 22/12/2018 19:28

I looked in a mirror and saw my wife looked at me and pointed out that I was getting a big belly. I started eating a bit more sensibly and doing a bit more exercise. I'd be very happy with a personal trainer who did not like fat bellies. I've got my belly down from a 36 to a 34 and feel much better. I'd never go to a personal trainer who thought a big fat belly was acceptable.

GinIsIn · 22/12/2018 19:36

Not only would I not use her, I would be making sure she knew why.

BigBumandMumTum · 22/12/2018 19:46

I'm a PT and that's disgusting. I've reported a colleague for something similar and everyone else was as disgusted as I was.

We are not all like that

Ethel36 · 22/12/2018 19:47

Judgemental bully. Steer clear.
