AIBU to not use this personal trainer?

I belong to a gym but as from January I plan to use a PT. just to get me into a decent routine and show me the best form for weights etc. The Personal Trainer I had in mind does some classes at my gym and also has her own PT company which I've followed on FB for 6 months

She's so lovely! Just what I'm looking for, calm and patient and I like her sensible advice from following her FB page. So I was all poised to drop her a line in the next week or so

Until last week that is! she posted a photo she'd taken by stealth. It was a man having a coffee in our local Starbucks. He was huge, a really big man and his stomach was resting on the table in front of him. She'd cropped his face out but captioned it ' just resting his tummy Shock'

Of course she well and truly had her arse handed to her - people commenting were less than impressed that's for sure. And unfortunately for her she posted the photo and then didn't check back in for 7 hours so she probably got quite a shock when she did.

She apologised, said she hadn't meant any malice by it and deleted it

So... would you pay this woman to help you lose weight and tone up? Or would you steer clear as you would feel judged by her for being unfit and out of shape?

That's disgusting behaviour. No I wouldn't go anywhere near her

My dd who was 16 at the time had a personal trainer that I had known for quite a long time, and during one of their runs outside she mocked my dd to one of her neighbours getting in her car while my dd was running in front of her PT, and implied that my dd is huge and was too fat to run to this neighbour, dd was oblivious to her mocking her as she was running. Well I knew the neighbour from school and she told all the school mums of what the pt did to my daughter, everyone was talking about it until one of the mums thought to let me know, everyone was talking about what she had done to my poor dd. My dd was so upset, she quit her PT, and refused to ever workout in public until she was 18. Now at 19 she has a fantastic pt who really pushes her and doesn’t mock her.

Some pt’s can be so horrible. This pt also forced my dd to weigh herself every week and be nasty to her if she had only lost 1lbs. My dd refuses to weigh herself with her new pt as she’s just scared to, but her new pt completely understands this.

Op I certainly wouldn’t go with that PT, she’s just a bully!

@John4703 I absolutely don't think a PT should accept a fat stomach! They should look at a client with a fat belly and think' here is my next job .. someone I can help and guide and motivate'

Isn't being a PT all about having overweight folk sign up with you and you taking pride at how they come on over the weeks and months?

I know we all judge and I probably would have noticed this man in the coffee shop as he really was very large. That judgemental thought wouldn't have left my head though that's for sure

I 'know' her due to doing a specific class in my gym with her - she's freelance there. I do this class pretty badly it has to be said and now I don't want to go back to be honest as I bet she's judging me

Where do you live?

My brother in law is a personal trainer and super nice and kind and patient and doesn’t fat shame innocent people enjoying a coffee...

@BatCakes It was my wife telling me that I'd never get into 34 inch waist jeans again that spurred me into doing something about it. I agree that a trainer needs to be sensitive but for me it was Anne being totally honest that made me take action. At age 71 and still fit and healthy I can only thank her for her honesty.
Guidance and motivation are the key, I've lost nearly a stone and two inches in the past year.
