Can someone please explain to me why the fuck people have the exhaust pipe on their car "tuned" so it sounds ridiculously loud and makes people in the street stare (or shit themselves)

AIBU to think people who own these loud pipes are utter twats or am I completely missing the point somewhere?

It drives (no pun intended) me NUTS. Everyday, the man over the road revs up his shitty Corsa and drives off into the sunset with his exhaust sounding like a Boeing 747 taking off at Heathrow.

It's a Corsa mate ...and even if it was an Aston Martin you still look like a cock.

I bought a second hand car that had one of these and it was so embarrassing. Every time I drive off, it would roar. What people must have thought when they expected to see a teenage boy racer but instead found this chubby woman driving a rubbish old banger

I got it changed at the first opportunity. It’s still loud, but nothing like it used to be.

It can’t be good for the ears. I always think they must end up at their destination with a banging headache.

One of my cars has a 98db exhaust as standard. But then it’s about 3 times as powerful as a standard car so it’s never going to be quiet.

I do use a baffle in it when not on the track, to preserve neighbourly relations.

My car does this... I purposely try not to annoy anyone but I love my car and even though I’m 28 it makes me feel like a teenager. I’m probably reliving my youth and I get looks on the school run...
I do love my car though. Some people show off in range rovers, I show off in a boy racer car with a loud exhaust.
I do however respect my neighbours and never leave it running or use it before half 8 or after around 9pm.

I find it funny people think its somethijng to "show off " when most people seem to think "what an idiot!."

Exhaust systems create pressure in the system meaning less fuel can be burnt and therefore less power. A noisy exhaust gives better mileage and more power. The compromise is noise. However, they also make the engine run hotter so there are other factors to consider.

It’s usually young lads who have these exhausts on cars isn’t it? Leave them be. Brings back many memories....

Dp has one (and lots of other things ) on his 18 yr old customised VW, he is a grown up man but loves his cars and van .
He is very nice man with no need of a penis extension, for some ppl it's just part of the custom/modified car scene.
