Purposely loud exhausts ...

todayiwin · 19/12/2018 21:46

Can someone please explain to me why the fuck people have the exhaust pipe on their car "tuned" so it sounds ridiculously loud and makes people in the street stare (or shit themselves)

AIBU to think people who own these loud pipes are utter twats or am I completely missing the point somewhere?

It drives (no pun intended) me NUTS. Everyday, the man over the road revs up his shitty Corsa and drives off into the sunset with his exhaust sounding like a Boeing 747 taking off at Heathrow.

It's a Corsa mate ...and even if it was an Aston Martin you still look like a cock.

During the day they’re annoying (and pointless on public roads), but at least all they do is make their drivers look like bell ends.

At 2am I wish I had Magnetos powers so I could rip the exhaust (and the engine) from the damn things.

araiwa · 20/12/2018 10:19

Generally speaking they improve power and performance

Tho sticking some cheap bean can on a 50hp knackered corsa is unlikely to help much

busybarbara · 20/12/2018 15:32

He is very nice man with no need of a penis extension, for some ppl it's just part of the custom/modified car scene.

Ssshhh you'll ruin our hobby of criticising men for bigging themselves up even though we are just as bad Wink

rebelrosie12 · 20/12/2018 15:34

It makes me laugh. Saddos.

hellswelshy · 20/12/2018 15:37

Literally my biggest pet peeve EVER!

Posthistoricmonsters · 20/12/2018 15:37

Condoms over the exhaust pipes. Enough said.

Biker47 · 20/12/2018 15:42

Mines louder on both my car and bike now because they are less restrictive than standard exhausts, among other things.

MessyBun247 · 20/12/2018 15:44

It’s for attention. The best thing to do is completely ignore it Smile

HoneysuckIejasmine · 20/12/2018 15:47

My neighbour has one on his motorbike. it's very annoying but to be fair to him he does idle or receiving, just starts it and drives off. It's just unfortunate that he gets home at my kids bedtime.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 20/12/2018 15:48

** doesn't idle or rev it

VeniVidiWeeWee · 20/12/2018 16:06

Pouty

That's rubbish. My car has 375 bhp but is still very quiet, as its designed to be

gudrunandtheseeress · 20/12/2018 16:15

There's an unwritten rule that any knobhead who has a car or motorbike needs to have a stupid horn or no muffler on the exhaust to warn the unsuspecting public. Works quite well I think.

PoutySprout · 20/12/2018 17:02

What is it?

VeniVidiWeeWee · 20/12/2018 17:18

2000 reg Jag XJR.

MaxTeyon · 20/12/2018 17:22

Personally, for increased performance. It’s surprising how much more power you can make by changing the manifold and exhaust plus either a decat or a sports cat. I used to run two different exhausts for my cars, one street and one track, sacrificing a few bhp on track to get within noise limits. Now I really can’t be arsed and just choose one which will pass most trackday testing. The increase in aural pleasure is purely subjective.

What’s your point? There are plenty of powerful cars that are quiet from the factory. There’s always a sacrifice made by OEMs when it comes to power outputs and exhaust configuration, most cars will make more power when fitted with a less restrictive system.

badlydrawnperson · 20/12/2018 17:26

Flippin crikey - when did MN turn into Pistonheads?

PoutySprout · 20/12/2018 17:32

Slightly different animal to my 2005 350bhp jap import rally car then!

This is my neighbour he’s a knob!

PurpleAndTurquoise · 20/12/2018 17:39

YANBU. Motorbikes at 5am racing along the roads every summer weekend are the worst for me. Wakes me up even though we are 1 mile from the road!!!!

Magicstar1 · 20/12/2018 17:40

My motorbike has a loud exhaust and it’s saved my life a few times! People can’t claim they haven’t seen you when they can hear you coming.

ALongHardWinter · 20/12/2018 17:51

I hate these with a passion. I live above a parade of shops, and I can more or less guarantee that at some point during the day (and often more than once) some wanker person will come roaring up outside, making a noise like a bloody plane taking off. Pisses me right off. There is one particularly annoying specimen, who likes to make repeat visits,in his souped up Fiesta (or whatever it is). Not content with shattering the peace once,he drives off, then 5 minutes later,he's back. Then off he goes again.....then back again, about six or seven times. I think we're supposed to be impressed.

I won’t consider an electric car until there are external speakers that make it sound like a Vulcan. Silent cars are bloody dangerous.
