To take more time off from new job :(

Started in sept had 1 day off with cold/flu symptoms in Nov and again 2 weeks ago- (I work part time thurs is my last day of week so both days off were a thurs).
Basically been full of a cold and cough since start Nov back to dr today and sent for bloods as lymph nodes all inflamed (been in contact with glandular fever case- but think this is unlikely) and for chest x Ray at hosp to check For pneumonia I suppose?
I feel like death got tomo and thurs to go would it look terrible if I rang in sick for day 3/4 especially just before Xmas break?

It's shit but yes, it could well cause trouble for you, especially if they use the Bradford score (or whatever it's called). Dose yourself up with paracetamol and try to get through it.

I’d attempt to go in.
Paracetamol and plenty of fluids.
You don’t want to hit a trigger and fail your probation period.

That's a lot to be off in such a short time. If this is normal for you, then I'd take meds and go in. If it's not normal for you, and this turns out to be far worse than the usual cough/cold, then yanbu.

Not normal just been so bloody unlucky really not sleeping due to ptsd and think that’s makinh me really run down. I feel horrendous and have done for weeks but today is just really really bad hope this antibiotics kick in soon whatever I’ve got.

Depends what your trigger point is. Currently you have had 2 occasions of sickness, totalling 2 days so Bradford score is 4. If you have 3 occasions of sickness totalling 5 days (2 days on this occasion) then your Bradford score is 15. Hardly going to raise many eyebrows. Can you get a sick cert from gp? Not usually necessary for less than 1 week sickness but may help if your work has lower trigger point

I have got one as studying an ma and coursework due in early jan so dr said take a note in case I needed an extension. I’ve been in bed since 4pm hopefully more sleep I could mange tomo

Sorry to hear you're struggling OP.

As a small business owner I would be alarmed if someone had a high level of sickness and I would worry about reliability.

I know it sounds harsh, and I do have a heart but it's really really tricky employing people who take a sick day at the drop of a hat. As such I might take choose not to continue employing someone who has a lot of sickness- and so would let them go during probationary period.

I appreciate that in your case you really are unwell, but I do think that if you can show willing by dragging yourself in it will help quash any niggling suspicious about your reliability.

Thank you good to get honest opinions even though what I want to hear is rest until you don’t feel like death. Thank you hopefully they’ll take pity and send me straight home especially if they think I might pass something on to resst of the team

It's far better to go in and show everyone that you do indeed look like death and then get sent home early than it is to just call in sick again, in your situation

Honestly you would fail your probation at my workplace. Can’t you just suck it up and go in? Harsh but it might be your only choice.

Glad I haven't worked st these types of places. If I was unwell I would just say I was sick. What type of job is it? I hope you feel better soon OP.

Bradford factor would be 45 for 3 occasions totalling 5 days. Not 15

Even if you go and do half a day, at least this will show your employer that you're committed.

When I was working in a call centre, I was unlucky with illnesses during my probation period

There was one occasion where I was progressively getting worse as the day went on and I had to make a drs appointment the following day. I was immediately put on antibiotics and steroids and still tried to go into work. I met my team leader outside and he immediately sent me home

What I’m saying is, go in, show willing and hopefully they will see that you’re genuinely too ill to be there

When I saw you'd been ill on and off since September I figured your new job was in education!

Unfortunately this is just how it is - the first year in an educational establishment most people tend to have colds etc back to back all year due to the mix of germs. Schools, colleges and universities are massive germ fests!

By next year your immunity will have built up. Until then fluids, paracetamol and push on.

I'm awake with a godawful sore throat, cough and earache. I'll be in my classroom from 8.45am. As a teacher the expectation is very much that we go in unless we physically can't, or we have D & V. Because colds are so prevalent in education people would never be in if they took time off for them!

On bus now feeling and looking awful I had been doubtful about glandular fever but my neck is more swollen on one side tonight and never felt so tired so maybe it is thst. Anyway I’m owed a day in toil so might speak to my boss and see if I can take that tomorrow all my work is finished for Xmas now.

Atleast you're attempting to go in, it's shitty that you've been so unwell since starting your new job but you're making the effort.

I hope you feel better soon or your boss does take pity on you!

And your team might not hate you as much once they see how actually poorly you are as it's unfair they've had to pick up your slack

You have few employment rights for two years, and they are likely to monitor attendance. Time off for respiratory viruses (the first two days off) doesn’t look good.
