I've been scared into turning off the TV during the day now as I have a 10 month old.

Please could you recommend which radio stations at what time to me?

I listen to R4 a lot, it's fantastic if you like spoken word - Woman's Hour usually has something of interest, there are some great quirky documentaries such as the Untold (Mondays at 11am, I think); Great Lives (today at about 4). It's worth just keeping it on and then you get into the rhythm of which sort of programmes you like and what time in the day they turn up - eg. there is always a comedy at 6.30pm, some better than others. The BBC Sounds app is great, it allows you to catch up on anything that has been broadcast in the past few weeks and has lots that is much older too.

OP there'll be a bunch of posters telling you the radio will give your baby cancer.

I would really just do what suits you.

grissini · 18/12/2018 20:23

I can't live in a quiet house I'll be really lonely and sad. I'm definitely going to put on radio 4 tomorrow

FIP is a Radio France music station. No adverts, very little chat, brief news on the hour, and otherwise the most eclectic mix of music you can imagine. You’ll have to listen via the internet (there’s an app), unless you happen to live in Brighton, where someone’s been relaying it via a transmitter in their loft somewhere in Hanover for about thirty years...

P6 Beat is a great Danish radio station that plays a wide range of music from all over the world.

Radio 4 is quality, but I like local radio as I feel a bit connected to the area that way.

rubaduhlo · 18/12/2018 20:47

Why have you been scared?

I listen to radio 2. I mostly like Jeremy Vine at 12pm. I like his topics. I know not everyone is a fan though.

shpoot · 18/12/2018 20:57

Radio 2 for me. Don't know why you are scared though? Of what?

grissini · 18/12/2018 20:58

On my other thread I've been told that the TV will harm my baby! Including cancer apparently Hmm

Radio x Saturday 1-3 Ellis James and Jon robbins. Two excellent comedians IMO or from 7pm with Gordon smart.

Absolute90s is good for a bit of cheese.

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 18/12/2018 21:03

OP please don't be scared of this. Many people have the tele on all the live long day including me! It's never harmed me or my children and they still play and act like normal kids. The tele has kept me sane as a SAHM and I don't give a tittle what anyone else thinks. You're doing fine Thanks

grissini · 18/12/2018 21:07

I just feel so guilty all day long so maybe for that fact alone I should turn it off a bit. I really don't want to stunt my boy's speech or anything

RayRayBidet · 18/12/2018 21:08

Don't listen to the bullshit on the other thread op. Do what you want.
R4 is OK but some of it is a bit boring/annoying. I listen to R4 and Absolute 80's. Absolute also have a 90's station. They have a no repeat work day

YessicaHaircut · 18/12/2018 21:10

I love the R2 Popmaster music quiz at 10.30am. Usually turn over to R6 at midday as Jeremy Vine’s not really my thing. We usually have R4 on for an hour or so around 10pm as it’s nice to fall asleep to!

Neverender · 18/12/2018 21:27

Or start a new thread?! 8 months or 10? 😅😅😅😅😅

grissini · 18/12/2018 21:30

Why are you following me around? I've never said 8 months. You're really very strange

OP posts:
Almostfifty · 18/12/2018 21:30

Radio 2 for Ken Bruce, Magic Soul the rest of the day.

Neverender · 18/12/2018 21:36

Why do you need two threads to help you work out what to do all day with a baby instead of just staring into the void? I'm concerned for you.

Hellywelly10 · 18/12/2018 21:40

I like radio 4 extra for commedy and drama. Urbane i used to listen to that channel in brighton in the 90's!! I totally forgot about it.

grissini · 18/12/2018 21:42

@Neverender Hide this thread and bugger off with your faux concern.

Radio 4 all day, every day.

Intelligent speech for you and your baby.

Cocolepew · 18/12/2018 22:02

I hate talking on the radio, I listen to Magic Soul all day, there's very little chat. But you probably need to be a soul fan Grin

HotSauceCommittee · 18/12/2018 22:03

Radio 4 and Radio 6. The latter has great music. Maybe your little one will be a music lover?
I can recommend Spotify. It’s always worth playing a few tunes that you like and seeing what your little one responds to. Music is a great bond in our house. The teenager who rarely spends any time with me is always willing to accompany me to a gig.
