About people claiming chairs at Center Parcs

It’s worse than sun loungers at any hotel I’ve stayed at.

Groups of four, six, eight... drape towels over as many chairs and then bugger off into the pool for an hour or so. Sometimes they use bags or goggles to monopolise even more chairs. I’ve seen families return to their enclave, dry off and go! Didn’t even sit in them.

This means that there aren’t chairs for those who want to sit, read, nurse etc.

If people were just less selfish there’d be plenty of chairs for those who wanted them when they wanted them.

It winds me up so much more than it should to be honest, but I’d love to hear from some of you selfish sods as to why you do this.

Well, you could have booked a Cabanna thingummy-bob if sitting by the pool is an important part of your enjoyment.

TinselandToblerones · 15/12/2018 11:07

Yup, we book cabanas to avoid this.

fringegrin45 · 15/12/2018 11:07

Ohhh this really wound me up too.

GreenHillOpposite · 15/12/2018 11:09

Or the hoggers could pay for a cabana.

blackteasplease · 15/12/2018 11:09

I would think places like this would have someone to go around and move these sort of objects to the side.

TinselandToblerones · 15/12/2018 11:10

I’d just move towels myself and then act innocent if questioned, obviously I wouldn’t dump them on the floor but no reason they can’t be stacked nicely on a chair

blackteasplease · 15/12/2018 11:11

Cabanas look amazing though!

4point2fleet · 15/12/2018 11:16

Greenhill, yes they could- but you cannot control that.

If you booked one (which you can control) you would be having a nice relaxing time at the pool instead of feeling pissed off.

tillytrotter1 · 15/12/2018 11:19

The management should trawl the area and any loungers being claimed but not used for an hour should be freed up by removing the items into a large lost property box.

LucheroTena · 15/12/2018 11:21

I can’t imagine wanting to sit in that cold, damp place to be honest. I never got the point of the cabanas, why would you want to be there all day? We just got in, did the pool, river, slides and rapids then buggered off.

Huntawaymama · 15/12/2018 11:26

I was shocked by this on our first day at CP but it kind of makes sense for families making life easier for themselves. On other days I reserved one chair with towels and a bag, I was breastfeeding and wanted to wrap baby up when nursing her. The changing rooms are massive and carrying my 3m old back to get a towel would have resulted in her crying because of the cold while I faff about. Sorry not sorry

4point2fleet · 15/12/2018 11:28

We never hang out at the pool either IheartNiles, but clearly some people do like to. WHY you would eat at the damp poolside café I don't know.

There is a readily available solution to the OP's problem though. Maybe she just likes a bit of a froth. Grin

busybarbara · 15/12/2018 11:31

Good luck booking a cabana. We've done it before but the last two times have had zero available even booking four months in advance! The sneaky workaround is to book a kids swimming session and go in early.

jelliebelly · 15/12/2018 11:31

Get there early - if you can't beat them join them

CandleWithHair · 15/12/2018 11:46

I don’t disagree OP but it would help if CPs provided some alternative poolside storage for towels etc. Just some open fronted shelves or something! I have hogged a chair for towels, but it was either that or the floor!

FissionChips · 15/12/2018 11:53

Just move their crap.

Its center parcs, ain’t likely someone will start a fistfight with you about it.

exWifebeginsat40 · 15/12/2018 11:58

a nice lady in her sixties once threatened to punch my fucking lights out over a chair, at a caravan park in Camber Sands. she got right up in my face because BINGO and she wanted to reserve about a hundred and forty seats or something for her gigantic extended family.

holidays make people do weird things. i wouldn’t hog a chair at Center Parcs because the thought of spending all that time (and eating? EATING?) in a roiling miasma of chlorine, piss and unwashed feet makes me want to vomit and scream at the same time. different strokes and all that though.

(i loved that Camber Sands caravan park, punchy pensioners and all. i kept the fucking chair, as i was on crutches at the time)

GreenHillOpposite · 15/12/2018 12:00

I wish I had the guts to just move stuff and take a chair!

OP posts:
ForalltheSaints · 15/12/2018 12:20

I thought we had voted not to be the same as the Germans. Must be remoaners doing this!

Just move stuff, and only take the chairs you need. Or get members of staff to help you do this.

GreenHillOpposite · 15/12/2018 12:34

Is there an equivalent of Godwin’s Law for Brexit?

I’m a remainer, I’d like to share the chairs for the sake of everyone’s benefit. Chair protectionism and trade war is not the answer.

OP posts:
90mammasophie · 15/12/2018 12:36

Move towels. I do it all the time .. hotels / centre parcs. Especially If all they've left it arm bands or giggles

BeanTownNancy · 15/12/2018 12:41

I went to Centre Parcs a couple of weeks after unexpected emergency abdominal surgery and really needed a lounger for most of the day so I could lie back. I did spend some time in the water (surgeons had advised it was fine) but ultimately needed to frequently return to a reclined position. I only "reserved" 2 chairs though - one for me and one for someone to be able to keep me company. No one would have known I had a legitimate reason for it when they saw me chipping off to the pool, but I think I did.

Probably selfish, but I was pissed off enough already from having my lovely holiday ruined by not being able to use the rides I had been looking forward to, and not being able to get drunk as planned. I was not going to compromise on my lounger! 😂

GreenHillOpposite · 15/12/2018 12:45

How many were in your group bean ?

OP posts:
FissionChips · 15/12/2018 13:25

What would you have done if someone had moved your stuff from one of the loungers BeanTownNancy?

SweetSummerchild · 15/12/2018 13:28

In future, go to the CenterParcs at de Kempervennen in the Netherlands.

There are so many millions of chairs in the Aqua Mundo that no one is bothered about people bagging them. Plus, you can go skiing in the snow centre. Plus, it costs half the amount of the UK Center Parcs.
