BF in shoe department

Set the scene...

DH wants something from primark. It's tipping down with rain. Head to primark. DS (7 weeks) is in a sling and starts rooting. DH shops whilst I BF DS in a very quiet show department (only place that had sears)

WIBU to feed my baby here?

Why would that be unreasonable?

GetOffTheTableMabel · 08/12/2018 16:02

No. Did anyone imply that you were?

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 08/12/2018 16:03

You can bf legally where ever you want. Why would you be unreasonable? Does your DH think so?

AntMoon · 08/12/2018 16:03

Don't see the problem?

Needsmorebeans · 08/12/2018 16:15

I never understand why anyone objects to a baby being fed. You did the right thing for your baby and caused no harm to anyone else. I don't see a problem.

WhatsUpHun · 08/12/2018 16:33

What's the problem?

LoriAnya · 08/12/2018 16:35

Just checking! A passer by kissed her teeth at me and gave me a rather disapproving look. Didn't explicitly say anything but you know when you know.

YANBU

LoriAnya · 08/12/2018 16:37

That's meant to say 'shoe' not 'show' !

OP posts:
Purpleartichoke · 08/12/2018 16:37

Unless you were preventing shoe shoppers from trying on shoes, you were fine.

BonBonVoyage · 08/12/2018 16:37

Nope, sounds fine

LoriAnya · 08/12/2018 16:37

Seats not sears 🙈 ffs!

OP posts:
LoriAnya · 08/12/2018 16:38

I was the only person sat there. Space for at least 5 other people to sit!

I am surprised anyone even noticed. You WNBU.

But I might have sent DH off to Primark on his own on a wet saturday 2 weeks before Christmas if I had a 7 week old.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 08/12/2018 16:42

People get mardy for the most ridiculous of reasons. I had a woman tut at me recently because my 7 year old fell over on the street, smacked his head on the kerb and she had to step around him. I loudly shouted "don't worry, he's fine, thanks so much" after her and she looked like I'd taken a shit in her handbag.

Ignore anyone who behaves as though what you're doing isn't ok. You know full well what you were doing was fine.

LoriAnya · 08/12/2018 16:43

@Sparklingbrook he took me out for a lovely lunch after so was totally worth it :)

OP posts:
LoriAnya · 08/12/2018 16:45

@Idontbelieveinthemoon oh poor little sausage!! How awful. My instincts even reading your post made me think I would have wanted to pick him up and cuddle him!

I just don't understand where I am meant to feed my baby if I can't do it in public. In a toilet? That's about the only place I can think of!

It's fine OP, needs must and all that. Some people are weird where breastfeeding is concerned.

LoriAnya · 08/12/2018 16:47

@GreatDuckCookery I love when I see you pop up on a thread. Voice of reason and all that!

She really made me question whether I was doing the right thing or not. I'm finding being a mum really confusing!

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 08/12/2018 16:51

You can BF wherever you like, generally. That's all you need to know really.

There are some situations where it will be less ideal than others. The shoe dept in Primark doesn't sound much fun but if that's what was required then so be it.

cadburysflake · 08/12/2018 16:52

Do you really need to consult mumsnet on this one? Feed where you like (except for adult only areas, or in a swimming pool actually in the water that's a bit weird...). If you need to feed your baby, sit down and feed, the end. I'm trying to think of places I wouldn't, I'm struggling.

LoriAnya · 08/12/2018 16:55

I love seeing mums breastfeeding. Or just feeding their babies in general. I just love babies!

Has anyone heard the poem by Holly McNish about BF?

Fantastic and very moving.

Thanks OP Grin

Sparklingbrook · 08/12/2018 16:58

Oh blimey, that poem.

I don't know anyone who has ever BF in a public toilet.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 08/12/2018 16:59

Being a new mum can be totally daunting but you did the right thing. Baby was hungry and you fed him. That's the beauty of breastfeeding.
