To have crossed at a zebra crossing?

I just received abuse for crossing at a well lit zebra crossing next to a supermarket. I saw a car in the near distance, but they had plenty of time to stop before the crossing and so I began to cross. Instead of slowing down the car sped up, deliberately, making me run, before braking. Then the guy shouted 'oi! OI! Use your fucking eyes, you daft cow!'
I feel stupidly shaken by it and I've just burst into tears.

Unfortunately so.

What a twat!

SnuggyBuggy · 07/12/2018 20:15

Wanker

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 07/12/2018 20:16

It just made me feel like an idiot, even though I know I was in the right. He was horribly aggressive and I'm feeling a bit down at the moment anyway, I didn't need that.

Of course YANBU to cross.

I suspect he was a sexist cunt.

Next shout cunt quickly and loudly do he hears what he is.

Ohyesiam · 07/12/2018 20:17

That would have shaken most people op. What a nasty piece of work.
Hope your weekend improvesFlowers

HeffalumpsDaughter · 07/12/2018 20:18

Was it a proper zebra crossing with lights? Sometimes in car parks they just put the lines on the ground with no lights or signs for drivers. If you’ve ever driven through Ashford town centre you’ll know the fun that causes!

HeffalumpsDaughter · 07/12/2018 20:19

Just spotted you said in your first sentence it was well lit. Ignore me entirely Blush

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 07/12/2018 20:19

It didn't have lights but it is well marked in front of a well lit supermarket. It's where you would expect a crossing to be and it is clearly marked.

He was an arsehole.

hazell42 · 07/12/2018 20:20

Some people are arses. I once crossed the road, perfectly safely, a man leaned out the window and screamed 'move you fat cunt' For no reason. He didn't even have to slow down. Wanker.
Horrible

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 07/12/2018 20:29

I am starting to feel a bit better now. It's just horrible to be shouted at like that by a stranger. Makes you feel weirdly vulnerable.

OP posts:
GreatDuckCookery6211 · 07/12/2018 20:33

I alway wait till the driver has stopped at these crossings tbh just in case they've not seen me. You have right of way because you're a pedestrian and already crossing but you're vulnerable with if a driver hasn't already stopped.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 07/12/2018 20:34

He wasn't close though and he definitely saw me

OP posts:
Tony2 · 07/12/2018 20:34

Guy was a total arsehole, highway code, when you step foot on the crossing he must stop. Exasperating, but as you say, you were right. All zebra crossings are in 30mph areas where there will be a system of street lighting so that's not even an issue. Try to forget it, he's a tosser, you ain't

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 07/12/2018 20:35

He deliberately sped up to frighten me.

OP posts:
Travisandthemonkey · 07/12/2018 20:35

I might have just stood there and let the fucker kill me. That’s how I feel about life currently. It would be worth dying to get my own back on some twat.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 07/12/2018 20:35

It was a 5 mph car park so he shouldn't have been going quickly.

OP posts:
whatsthepointthen · 07/12/2018 20:35

same thing happened to me, crossed at a crossing with my children a car was in the distance and nowhere near us. it was one of those crossing with an island in the middle so we were waiting for the cars to stop on the other side, as the car got to where we were he started screaming abuse out the window at me. he literally stopped to shout at me (not just in passing) the worst part was that I was stuck in the
middle unable to get away.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 07/12/2018 20:35

I know, some people's are arseholes, that's why I always wait until they have stopped.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 07/12/2018 20:37

Well I'll know for next time.

ViserionTheDragon · 07/12/2018 20:38

This ^^. You never know when the next arsehole is around the corner. Flowers for you, OP.

ViserionTheDragon · 07/12/2018 20:39

I was referring to what GreatDuck said btw!

Travisandthemonkey · 07/12/2018 20:41

these cunts rely on you feeling intimidated. Scared and attacked. It makes them feel better.
If it gives you any consolation he might not beat his wife tonight as he’s already had a bit of a power thrill.

lovetherisingsun · 07/12/2018 20:41

Fucking hate men like this. Not your fault, OP. Twat.
