Your book character is here on AIBU! This can be from any book you have read or are currently reading.
Only rules:
DO reference the book you are referring to because there are so many out there.
Choose the character that's most likely to get pulled apart for this unreasonableness.
I will do mine in the below post.

AIBU?
I had two weeks to propose to my girlfriend and was too chicken to do it.
On the last day, I meant for things to be especially romantic and booked a fancy restaurant. However, I got very mixed up and thought that the restaurant was 10 minutes WALKING distance, not driving. I walked with her for 50 minutes, before giving up and taking a taxi back to our place. I could never find a good time to give her the ring, so I just initiated arguments with her so that she thinks I hate her and never wanted to propose. What should I do?
(Adam from the book We Were On a Break by Lindsey Kelk)

That should have said "two weeks to propose to my girlfriend on holiday"

I got that straight away, I love Lindsey Kelk. Grin

AIBU I asked a women to marry me, she said no. Was I being unreasonable to tell her I loved her despite her embarrassing family and her low breeding? Is it not ok to be honest anymore? Also was I being unreasonable to convince my bff to dump her sister? he’s so sappy he’d fall in love with a tree it’s for his own good...

(Haha I’m not sure I need to reference this book but Mr Darcy pride and prejudice)

WaterBird · 04/12/2018 16:35

Glad you liked it. I'm still reading it now and Adam is really coming across as a dick, but that would make sense considering that Liv gets most of the narration.

Our wedding fell through... AIBU to expect my fiancee to come and live in France with me instead?

Looking for some female perspective here.

When the new governess arrived for my DD (I have sole custody, despite not being sure whether or not DD is biologically mine), I felt a real connection with her. She responded well to my banter about finding other women much more attractive than her, and we both enjoyed the practical joke where I convinced her I was going to marry one of my neighbours! Eventually I proposed and we made plans for a low-key wedding.

But halfway through the ceremony, the vicar refused to go through with it because I already have a wife with MH issues who I keep imprisoned in my loft.

I appreciate that I should probably have been more open with my fiancee about my situation, but I was worried that it might put her off. In fairness I no longer have feelings for my wife and she often attempts to set fire to me.

I tried to set things straight by dragging my fiancee back to the house and introducing her to my wife, who I tied to a chair with some rope.

However, my fiancee is still refusing to emigrate with me to live as my mistress in social isolation in a country she has never visited.

What can I do to bring her round?

LavenderBush · 04/12/2018 16:37

Oops, forgot to say - Mr Rochester/Jane Eyre.

WaterBird · 04/12/2018 16:40

LavenderBush, I got your reference straightaway.
Have you read Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys? It's in Bertha's POV, and very interesting.

WWYD? I’m reluctant to talk to my work colleagues about this, as they will think i’ve gone loopy.
I’m a police constable in the Met, just finished by two years probation on the beat. I’m mixed race, Mum’s from Sierra Leone, she works as a cleaner, real hard working lady. Dad’s a Londoner, long term drug user and was a jazz musician. Everything was going well with my career, nice female partner who I am quite close to.
Then I started seeing people that weren’t there. Hearing voices ( and other sounds) that weren’t there.
Am I hallucinating? It all seems so real? The only explanation is ghosts. Hahaha, not sure I believe in ghosts.
So, if you were me - who would you talk to? Or should I keep quiet and just hope it all goes away?

WaterBird · 04/12/2018 16:55

Ooh, I'm intrigued, FadedRed. What book is this from?
And to your character:
I don't know who you are, but you sound deranged. Reported.

My name is Peter Grant. I’m now a DC with the Special Assessment Unit aka The Folly. It turns out that I wasn’t hearing and seeing things that weren’t there. Ghosts, and other weird bollocks, are not only real but now my everyday job. My erstwhile colleague has now gone over to ‘the other side’, though we are trying to get her back. My current partner is a River Goddess.

I'm deserted on an island and the blond lad seems to be taking over by agressive tactics.

Aibu to try and copy his style?

Littletabbyocelot · 04/12/2018 17:20

I'm a headmaster. I'm proud to say my school is efficiently run and my pupils are models of good behaviour. They would almost all say that I am a marvellous man and that my school is the best they have ever been to. I want to extend my approach to ensure the country is run with equal efficiency. Unfortunately, a tiny minority of my pupils are trying hard to stop me. AIBU to think the world would work better if run by one man with no thought of personal gain, only efficiency?

AIBU to think he (DreamGuy) and I are soulmates?

I’ve loved DG since I was a kid and I know he loves me too. The thing is he’s married with a kid. But he only married her because she’s his cousin and he felt like he had to though...he SHOULD be with me!

So I did what any woman would, married his brother in law obvs! Luckily for me DH promptly died. I mean there was like a giant war going on and Charles was such a wet blanket...don’t know why him dying was a surprise to anyone.

I had to wear black for like a whole month and have his stupid baby, it’s me who deserved the pity.

Anyway, wars over now and DG made it out alive! Finally we can be together ... just need his wife and child to sod off! #workingonit

Then there’s this other guy - he has loads of cash and buys me gifts and I do like that ...but I don’t much care for his moustache. He’s a bit of a douche and deffo a bit dodgy, his reputation sucks but at the same time ...£££££ ❤️

We’ll see what happens, I generally get what I want!

AIBU? My husband wants to run off down south to go and take a job offered to him by his best friend as his adviser. Last time he ran off after his best friend he came back with another woman's child! It's a whole months journey by horse!

To make it worse I've just had the most hideous houseguests AND my middle DS has had an horrific accident. He fell from a window in an unused part of our home. Also also my BIL has died in suspicious circumstances and my sister is sending me weird letters that could get me in a lot of shit.

At least step-son has pissed off to become a watcher on the wall.

AIBU to be royally pissed off with pretty much everything and everyone?

I am tots sick of my 'oh so perfect' cousin. I have many ds and db but as the eldest they all look up to me. I am a bit fed up of all the responsibility to be honest and it's really not my fault they all get themselves into trouble. I think if my dm was still alive I's be ok - my auntie is trying to take her place, but she is just not the 'hugging type'. My df is just too busy in his work to notice us all!

Anyhow my dear coz is coming for a visit. i do love her, but she is just too, too perfect. Anyhow I think I will just go and play on that swing in the garden now.....

Lexilooo · 04/12/2018 17:46

AIBU to let my older brother and sister continue to think that my younger sister is a liar? I teased her quite a lot when she told everyone that there was a magical land in the wardrobe but now I know it is true and I have been there. I just know that if I tell them they will make me apologise and take her side...... plus I have met someone who there who has promised me a better life, if they all find out they will mess things up. So AIBU to just go back in to the wardrobe and meet this person without them?

LEMtheoriginal · 04/12/2018 17:48

It was my birthday. They insisted on making a fuss so i climbed out of the window! Im very old so i daresay it caused a furore. Lets just say ive lead a colourful life...

keiratwiceknightly · 04/12/2018 17:49

My new neighbour is kind of poor but it is really important I cultivate a relationship with him. You see, he is a distant cousin of the girl that got away - the one I've loved since we were 17 and kissed on her porch, and the neighbour is my way back into her life. She's married now, but I don't think she is happy. WIBU to ask my neighbour to set up a meeting with my one true love? She will be wowed by my money now (I went away and got rich and, no, I'm not going to tell you how) and I'm sure she will love my pink suit.

Terribletweens · 04/12/2018 17:52

AI really BU to pass mine and my brother's baby off as mine and someone else's to my sister in law, so I can convince her to pass it off as hers and my brother's? I need DC to inherit the family estate after my DF wouldn't give it to me, leading to an unfortunate incident where my lover killed DF and I killed my lover so surely this is a neater end?

Is my DSis a CF? She got into the netball team and I didn't but now that I've been offered a part in the school play and she hasn't she says it's not fair and she won't speak to me. One of my BFs is taking her side too and says I need to fix it.

I married the love of my life, but he's dead (fucking war) so I married the groom who saved my first horse but actually he's dead boring and I really fancy my first husband's brother. I've already adopted his illegitimate son by my current husband's sister. AIBU to divorce hubby 2 so I can marry love of my life mark 2 and play at happy families?
