To think 21 degrees is shorts and t-shirts weather

I have just checked the weather for Tenerife for the next few days and it ranges between 20 and 21 degrees, I am in a dilemma as to what sort of clothes to pack as I have my heating at home set to 23 so wondering if I will be cold in just a summer dress or shorts and t-shirt. This past week I noted it was 10 degrees out there with rain and wind so I will bring a warm set of clothes but I am wondering what the ratio of summer to winter clothes I should pack (want to travel light if possible, so leaving snow clothes at home!)

Tee shirt and jeans weather to me, I think. Maybe a pair of shorts for if it gets warmer and a light top for cooler days/evenings.

PurpleFlower1983 · 30/11/2018 06:45

Shorts and T-shirts should be fine during the day if you’re quite hardy although I would take some warmer clothes for the evening.

QuestionableMouse · 30/11/2018 06:46

I'd take a couple of warmer things just in case. It could feel a lot cooler in person depending on the wind or humidity or whatever.

acatcalledron · 30/11/2018 06:49

I have recently come back from the canaries, I wore shorts and a long flowing shirt most days and switched to jeans, a thicker shirt and shawl/poncho for the evening as it's cooler and a little windy

Jenasaurus · 30/11/2018 06:51

OK, so maybe dress more like spring weather. Also this may seem strange but I have never travelled at this time of year. Is wearing Christmas sparkle in the evenings acceptable or will I look strange in a sequin covered dress. My dd suggested we pack our Christmas jumpers for the return flight but in my head I associate Tenerife with summer and assume Christmas wont be such a thing over there as it is in colder climates...:) I guess I am thinking cold weather/snow etc = Christmas, so warm weather/sunshine = summer.

I’d pack several pairs of shorts each, but also some thinner jumpers / cardigans and a jacket for evenings. You really need to pack for both eventualities. I think 21 is ‘shorts weather’ but if it goes windy / cloudy for a bit (which it can in the canaries) you’ll need a jacket.

BobbyBanana · 30/11/2018 06:59

Err Christmas isn't just particular to cold climates you know. It's the main festival of a middle eastern religion which spread through Europe and which has a strong base of people that practise it in Mediterranean countries.
Catholics, you know? +

We are going in a coupleof weeks, will be taking shorts/summer stuff for daytime, then maxi style dresses for evening with a light jacket.

We went the same time last year and although the forecast said it was 22-23s it was actually much warmer where we were (los cris), the temp towers on the front were showing 28s most days. Definetly shorts weather! You did need a light jacket in the evening. It was very similar to a typical British summet evening, so warm until the sun sets then a little cooler if sat around.

helloblossom · 30/11/2018 07:01

For me 21 degrees is my favourite temperature as it's warm enough to be out all day without having to dig out all my 'holiday clothes'. So jeans and leggings with t, shirts or strappy tops and of course flip flops. Your favourite couple of shorts would work with a more covered top or if you find a nice sheltered sun trap to sit in. I'd take mix and match thin layers. And you'll definitely need warm stuff for the evenings. Have a great time.

Monestasi · 30/11/2018 07:03

Perhaps midday, under the sun. But it’s still winter there.

You can be caught out and feel quite cold should you not pack sufficient winter items.

AjasLipstick · 30/11/2018 07:05

Sparkles are fine OP! I live in a hot climate and it's hot right now and people do the sequins for Christmas just as they do in England.

Newjobnewstart · 30/11/2018 07:25

21 degrees is taps aff weather!
Id def be in shorts/t shirts etc but then im scottish

cherrypopsicle · 30/11/2018 07:25

Just back from the Canaries yesterday. Shorts & t-shirts absolutely fine during the day but it was quite cool in the evenings so we wore jeans with a long sleeve top or cardi on the nights. It was a bit strange seeing Xmas decorations in the heat though

anniehm · 30/11/2018 07:32

It will feel warm because it's cold here, take cardigans/jumpers for the evening though

QuietContraryMary · 30/11/2018 07:32

it'll be very hot in the midday sun and a light jumper in the evening

madeyemoodysmum · 30/11/2018 07:36

I'd assume a early summer day here
I'd pack as. I'd would for a holiday in Cornwall or Devon. Pack a bit of everything with layers.

HPandBaconSandwiches · 30/11/2018 07:37

Jeans and a jumper. Possibly a coat. But I live in a hot bit of Aus 😎

mrsnec · 30/11/2018 07:43

It's 21 degrees where I am right now. I'm in Hareem pants, t-shirt and flip flops. Probably just need a cardi in the evening. We've not needed any heating yet.

I lived in the canaries for a couple of years and rarely needed a coat.

Nakedavenger74 · 30/11/2018 08:05

21 c during day here in NZ right now. I'm on a long sleeved top, jacket and scarf!

PiperPublickOccurrences · 30/11/2018 08:06

We were in the Canaries in October and even then in the evening you needed a cardi or a hoodie to be outside. Layers definitely the way to go.

YerAWizardHarry · 30/11/2018 08:09

I've been to Tenerife mid November last 3 years in a row and never put on a jumper/jacket/jeans even at night. It'll be warmer than 21/22 when you get there

Cheerbear23 · 30/11/2018 08:10

Nakedavenger74 blimey a coat & scarf?!?! For us hardy types in the north of England 21 is a hot summers day 😁!

YerAWizardHarry · 30/11/2018 08:10

I too am Scottish though maybe we are a bit more hardy Grin

EchidnasPhone · 30/11/2018 08:12

Nakedavenger74 I was shivering at the thought of shorts in 21 degree ‘heat’! I’d only wear shorts 28 & up

Nakedavenger74 · 30/11/2018 08:12

@Cheerbear23 I'm from the North East!! DH says I've gone soft!
